A big change has taken place in the world of social media. Australia has made a new law to stop children under 16 from using many popular social networks, such as Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.
According to the law, it is social media sites' duty to make sure all their users are at least 16 years old. The Australian government will fine the companies if they let young children use their sites. The highest fine can be up to 32 million dollars. To follow the law, the companies will use different ways to check users' age. For example, new users have to show their ID cards and use face scanning(扫描).
The Prime Minister of Australia said he made the rule because social media was bad for children's mind. A study found that 70% of kids aged 10 to 15 saw harmful information on social media. The terrible information included violence(暴力), bad ideas about health and so on. He advised children to do other meaningful things, like playing a new sport or learning a musical instrument. He also told kids to spend more time with friends and family face to face.
However, not everyone agrees with the rule. Many children say they will feel lonelier without social media. Two 15-year-old students are even taking the Australian government to court(法庭). They think their right to talk freely online is taken away.
66. What will happen if social media companies let under 16 use their sites

Nowadays, people often talk about superfoods. These foods are rich in nutrients(营养) and are especially good for our health. The latest popular superfood is bamboo shoots. Scientists have studied a lot of research to learn about their health benefits.
Researchers say bamboo shoots are really good for our body. They are low in calories(卡路里) and high in fibre(纤维). They also provide many vitamins and minerals(矿物质). These are important for controlling blood sugar, blood pressure and body movement. However, raw(生的,未煮过的) bamboo shoots have harmful things inside, so people must cook before eating.
Professor Lee Smith, a scientist from a university in the UK, said, "Our study shows bamboo shoots can really become a great superfood." He added, "Bamboo is already widely eaten in many parts of Asia. It could be a healthy and eco-friendly food for people all over the world, but it must be prepared properly."
Most people know what bamboo looks like. It is the tallest grass in the world and can grow up to 90 cm in a single day. There are about 1,400 kinds of bamboo around the world. But many people don't know that bamboo shoots are picked when they just come out of the ground and are still soft. We don't eat the hard part of bamboo — that is the favorite food of pandas. Thanks to its rich nutrition and low calories, bamboo shoots are becoming more and more popular around the world. If people learn to cook them properly, this special superfood will bring more health benefits to daily diets.
