What do you usually do before exams Are there any special traditions in your country 3 replies (回复) Li Yan (Henan) 6 June
In the UK, there are lots of fun traditions before exams. In some countryside areas of England, you can see “wishing trees”. People put coins into the trees. Students think this can bring good luck from the “tree spirits”. At the University of Oxford, there’s a tradition. Students touch the “Kissing Stone”, an old stone inside the chapel (教堂), to have good luck. Also, some students don’t eat chicken before exams. The reason is funny: They don’t want to be a “chicken” and get afraid easily during the exam! Like Comment (评论) Jamal Carter (UK) 6 June
In South Korea (韩国), we give our friends sticky rice cakes (糯米糕) before exams. This is because the word “stick” has the same sound as “pass” in Korean. People believe eating sticky food helps students “stick” to success and pass their tests. It’s a way to show support and wish each other good luck. I remember when my best friend had a big test, I bought his favourite sticky rice cakes to cheer him up. This tradition makes us feel warm and strong before exams. Like Comment Min-joon Kim (South Korea) 7 June
In Türkiye, we have special exam traditions. Before tests, students drink “examtea” made with apple and cloves (丁香). We touch our heads twice, like knocking on doors, and say “Bilgi gelsin!” That means “Let me be clever”! And here's an important rule: Always enter the exam hall with your right foot first—stepping in with your left foot means bad luck! This tradition is widely believed, and students often feel worried about choosing the wrong foot. Like

68.My Wonderful Life in Grade 7
How time flies! This term is coming to an end. I’d like to say something about my wonderful life in Grade 7.
First, I made some close friends. Lily is one of them. She is kind and helpful. When I failed my math exam, she spent her free time teaching me until I caught up. Second, we had an exciting trip to the local science museum. We saw many amazing science-related things there. The feeling of exploring the unknown was really thrilling. Lastly, I read some fantastic books. My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird. The main character, Atticus Finch, is a brave and just man. He defends a black man in a biased society. From this story, I learned the importance of justice and empathy.
Grade 7 has been a memorable year. I gained friendship, knowledge and growth.
