Huang Xuhua, born in 1926 in Guangdong Province, is known as the “Father of China's Nuclear Submarines.” His pioneering work in the 1960s and 1970s helped lay the foundation for China's nuclear submarine (核潜艇) program, which played a key role in the country's defense strategy during a time of intense global pressure.
In 1958, Mr. Huang was appointed as the chief designer for China’s first nuclear submarine project. At that time, China lacked the necessary technology and resources to construct such advanced submarines, and due to international isolation, the team had to rely solely on domestic innovation. Despite these significant challenges, Mr. Huang accepted the mission with determination, driven by the need to safeguard China’s maritime sovereignty (主权) and strengthen its strategic defenses. One of the greatest hurdles was developing a compact nuclear reactor capable of powering a submarine. With limited expertise in nuclear physics and engineering, Mr. Huang and his team worked tirelessly to design an efficient and reliable reactor, demonstrating his creativity and leadership skills.
After over a decade of hard work, Huang’s team achieved a historic breakthrough in 1970 by launching China’s first nuclear-powered submarine, the Type 091 (Han-class). This meant China became one of the few countries able to build nuclear submarines. Soon after, they developed the Type 092 (Xia-class), China’s first ballistic missile submarine, which boosted the country’s nuclear defense.
Huang’s contributions went beyond technology. His leadership inspired a generation of Chinese scientists and engineers to focus on self-reliance and innovation. Despite the heavy pressure and secrecy surrounding his work, Huang stayed committed to the project, often sacrificing personal comforts for its success. In recognition of his achievements, Huang has received many awards, including the Supreme State Science and Technology Award, China's highest honor for scientific achievements.

When we’re stressed, the brain sends a signal to the adrenal medulla (肾上腺髓质). That signal causes many unpleasant symptoms. Until recently, most scientists believe that muscles have nothing to do with stress because they don’t influence how the brain and the adrenal medulla communicate. In fact, Strok,a leading neuroscientist at the University of Pittsburgh, says he has long been suspicious of claims that exercises building muscles like yoga can decrease stress. “I need to see that there’s a connection; that there’s a real biological basis,” he says.
In 2016, Strok decided to study the connection between muscles and stress by using a method he pioneered. Strok invented a process where he could put a virus into an organ to track the neural network that connect the brain and the muscles. “So we Injected (注入) the adrenal medulla with a virus, and we tracked it back into the brain and then mapped which areas influenced the adrenal,” he says. “And that’s where the surprise came.” Essentially, Strok discovered that our stress response is controlled by more than just the ‘thinking’ part of the brain. Other parts of the brain, including those controlling our muscles, are also sending signals to the adrenal medulla. And the area of the brain that communicates with the adrenal receives signals from the core-muscles as well. So, strengthening those muscles, Strok says, can adjust our stress.
When we’re tapping away at a computer in a chair all day, many of us feel more mentally stressed. Strok recommends strengthening the core muscles so that sitting upright all day becomes more natural. “Slump, and then sit up straight,” he says “And see what the difference they make to your mood.”
Strok also says this discovery was a wake-up call for his own health. He credits his children, who persuaded him to try yoga years ago. “And I once said, come on, give me a break. I don’t have time,” he says. “But as it turns out, they’re right.”
28. What can we learn about Strok's study
A. He referred to other researchers’ methods.
B. He observed the influence a virus has on the adrenal.
C. He got the result similar to that of previous studies.
D. He found the part of the brain managing muscles can affect stress.

A. Why We Are So Easily Stressed
B. Benefits of Doing Sports Like Yoga
C. Ways of Strengthening Our Muscles
D. Our Muscles Can Affect Our Mood

If you use lots of emoji (表情符号) when messaging your friends, you may be more emotionally intelligent that is, better able to understand your emotions and those of others. That is the conclusion of a team of U.S. researchers from Indiana University (IU), who also found that reduced emoji use with friends and partners is associated with an avoidant relationship attachment style.
“The way we interact during virtual communications may reveal something more about ourselves,” said paper author and IU psychologist Simon Dubé in a statement. “It is not just a smiley face or heart emoji — it’s a way to convey meaning and communicate more effectively, and how you use it tells us something about you,” he said.
In their study, Dubé and his colleagues interviewed 320 U.S. adults who regularly send and receive text messages. Each subject was surveyed about his or her identity information, typical emoji use, emotional intelligence and so-called attachment styles.
The latter refers to the ways in which we relate to other people when in close relationships and are thought to be influenced by how we interact with parents and other caregivers early in life. Children who feel safe, protected and supported by their caregivers tend to go on to develop a secure attachment style, which is the healthiest type. In contrast, children whose parents are emotionally distant or dismissive tend to develop an avoidant attachment style and struggle to develop close relationships later in life.
Inconsistent caregiving, meanwhile, can lead to anxious attachment, where people long for closeness but meanwhile fear abandonment and rejection.
The researchers found that texters with higher levels of emotional intelligence and secure attachment styles tend to use more emoji when messaging. Overall, women were found to use emoji more with friends and family than their male counterparts do. However, women were found to send and receive emoji less often with friends, dates and romantic partners when they exhibited more avoidant styles of attachment. Men with avoidant attachment, meanwhile, were found to send fewer emoji to partners.
The team admitted that its study was limited. The participants were mainly white, married, educated, English-speaking people and therefore do not fully reflect the population.
32.What does the text mainly talk about
A. Emoji use strengthening family ties.
B. Attachment styles affecting emoji use.
C. The development of attachment styles.
D. Emoji use and emotional intelligence.
33. What did Simon Dubé mean about emoji use
A. It shows your skills of interaction.
B. It helps keep a close relationship.
C. It reveals your private information.
D. It raises communication efficiency.
34. What might result in avoidant attachment
A. Lack of care in childhood.
B. Having a secure childhood.
C. Using no emoji when texting.
D. The overuse of social media.
35. What might be a cause of the limitation of the study
A. Insufficient amount of data.
B. No supporting evidence.
C. Improper way of sampling.
D. Mistakes in data analysis.

My story started one autumn morning, at the bend on a path.
I was 13 years old, and was on the way to school. It was the first time I had caught sight of a fox. Fascinated to the point that I forgot all fear, I dared to go up to it. I had never come so close to a wild animal. There was nobody else around, only the fox and me.
“Hey, fox!” I tried to greet it, though my voice was so weak it felt like I was saying hello to myself. It didn’t hear me. It stayed there and I watched it. My heart was beating flat out. It was so cute. For a moment, I thought I might be able to touch it.
Throughout the day at school, I could only think of the fox at the big beech (山毛榉) tree. At my return to the place where we met, I was sure I’d find it there. And I did. This time I gathered a little bit more courage and called out to it, “Fox!” Of course, it escaped. But that only made me long to meet it again. I decided that if I could find its kennel (洞) and catch it, I would try and tame (驯服) it, making it my friend.
Thus, I spent most of my free time in the forests trying to find the fox during the following months. But I never saw it again before winter came. During the winter, I followed its footprints far across the fields. Suddenly I was alarmed by the howling of wolves near me. I ran away frightened, stumbled and hurt my ankle. It healed very slowly, so that I had to stay at home during the winter, reading a book about animals of the forest and foxes.
When spring arrived, I was free again. I looked for fox kennels and waited for my fox. To my amazement, it had got young ones but kept moving because of my observations; therefore, I decided to observe the fox from a longer distance.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Finally, it would let me get close.
To my surprise, the day after I took it home, it fled.

第二节 读后续写范文(25 分)
Finally, it would let me get close.
Gradually the fox grew used to my regular visits and the food I brought. It no longer fled at my arrival but waited quietly beside the bush. One cold afternoon, I spotted its weak baby fox trapped beside the kennel. Without thinking, I picked the little fox up and took it home to keep warm and feed it. I planned to send it back after it recovered.
To my surprise, the day after I took it home, it fled.
I searched the whole forest anxiously for days but found no trace of the fox family. Weeks later, when I passed the same path again, the fox appeared from woods with its babies not far away. It stopped for a short while as if greeting me before disappearing into the thick forest. I realized wild animals belong to nature and freedom is their best home.
