Our English teacher gave us a special project this month: make a plan for a charity sale. At first, my group thought the task would be easy. We could just bring some old things, put prices on them and wait for people to buy. But the more we discussed, the more we realized that a successful sale needed more than good 36 .
First, we had to decide what to sell. Some classmates wanted to bring expensive toys, but our teacher reminded us that the goal was not to show off. We needed items that were clean, useful and suitable for students. In the end, we chose storybooks, stationery, handmade key rings and bookmarks. We wanted buyers to feel that they were getting something meaningful while also helping a good 37 .
Next came the question of price. If we set the prices too high, students might walk away. If we set them too low, we would raise less money for charity. So we compared the condition of each item and tried to find fair prices. That part taught me that pricing is not simply a number. It reflects value, the needs of buyers and the 38 of the event.
We also designed posters and wrote short messages for the morning assembly. One classmate suggested using the words “cheap” and “best deal”, but another said we should also explain where the money would go. I agreed. People are often more willing to spend when they know their money can make a real 39 .
On the day of the sale, I was nervous at first. Then students from different grades began to arrive. Some bought things quickly, while others stayed to ask questions. By the end of lunch break, many boxes were already empty. When we counted the money later, we were tired but excited. The total was much higher than we had expected.
That afternoon, I understood that money can do more than buy personal treats. It can connect kindness with action. A charity sale may look simple, but behind it are planning, teamwork and trust. Once people work together for others, even small amounts of money can create a big 40 . For me, the most valuable part of the project was not the final number we raised, but the lesson that careful planning gives generosity a stronger 41 .
36.A.weather B.luck C.goods D.rules

39.A.difference B.choice C.noise D.mistake
40.A.ticket B.change C.bill D.dream
41.A.direction B.voice C.future D.result
36.C 37.A 38.B 39.A 40.B 41.B
上文提到“We could just bring some old things, put prices on them and wait for people to buy”,原本以为带些旧东西标价售卖就行,但讨论后发现并非如此,这里强调义卖成功需要的不仅仅是好的“商品”,goods“商品”符合语境。
Our body temperatures can tell us things about our health. Today we can take our temperatures easily with thermometers (体温计). But do you know that it took people hundreds of years to invent (发明) modern medical thermometers
Galileo Galilei was a famous scientist. Many people believe he invented the first thermoscope (验温器) around 1600. It allowed people to know temperature changes by watching water in the tube (管子) move up or down. However, the thermoscope didn’t have scales (刻度), so people could not know what the temperature was.
In 1612, a scientist named Santorio took a large step forward. He put scales on his thermoscope. He invented a thermometer and people could put one end of it into their mouths to take the temperature. However, the thermometer was very big and inaccurate It took a long time to take the temperature. Later, other scientists invented different kinds of thermometers.
In 1867, an Englishman developed the first medical thermometer that looked like today’s thermometer. It was small and was about 15 cm long. It could take the temperature in five minutes. Now, taking the temperature is a common way for doctors and nurses to know if people are healthy. More accurate medical thermometers come out. More and more families also have one at home.

43.根据文章第3段“However, the thermometer was very big and inaccurate. It took a long time to take the temperature.(然而,这个体温计非常大且不精确。测量体温需要很长时间。)”可推知结论是Santorio的体温计体积大、不精确且耗时。故填It was very big, inaccurate and it took a long time to take the temperature.
44.根据文章第4段“In 1867, an Englishman developed the first medical thermometer that looked like today’s thermometer.(1867 年,一位英国人研制出了第一支看起来像今天体温计的医用体温计。)” 故填In 1867.
45.根据文章第4段“It was small and was about 15 cm long.(它很小,大约15厘米长。)” About 15 cm long.
46.通读全文及第1段“But do you know that it took people hundreds of years to invent modern medical thermometers (但你知道发明现代医用体温计花费了人们数百年吗?)” The history of thermometers.

42.Who invented the first thermoscope
43.What were the disadvantages (劣势,缺点) of Santorio’s thermometer
44.When did the Englishman develop the first medical thermometer that looked like today’s thermometer
45.How long was the first medical thermometer
