At 39, Zhang Xue doesn’t care much about fame. Dressed in his own brand’s biker jacket, he told reporters, “None of you would be here if someone hadn’t pushed for you to be here.” His words made many uncomfortable. Yet just days earlier, his motorcycle had made history — winning two World Supersport races in theWSBK (World Superbike Championship) in Portugal, beating giants like Ducati and Honda.
Zhang’s journey was never easy. Born into a poor farming family, at 16, it was by chance that he became passionate about motorcycles. “I’ve ridden every day since then,” he says. But being a self-taught rider with no connections meant no racing team would notice him. So at 19, he did something clever: he repeatedly called a popular TV show until a journalist agreed to meet him. His first performance was a disaster. Due to extreme nerves, his old motorcycle, or the lack of grip (抓牢) in the mountainous terrain, he fell off several times. The staff drove away. Refusing to give up, Zhang chased (追逐) their car for over 100 km in the rain for three hours. Moved by his persistence, they filmed him again. This time, he nailed difficult stunts. The broadcast, titled The Wind-Chasing Youth, got him noticed by professional teams.
After years of racing and engineering work, Zhang moved to Chongqing, China’s “Motorcycle Capital”. With only 20,000 yuan, he started by buying spare parts and sharing his work online. In 2017, he co-founded Kove Moto, which soon became a leader in large-displacement motorcycles. But fame and fortune meant little to him. “I don’t want to be a businessman sitting in meetings,” he says. “I want to be a hands-on engineer again.” So in 2024, he left to start his own brand, ZXMOTO.
Today, ZXMOTO is growing fast. “Our advantages are low costs and high efficiency. In terms of high-end manufacturing, we are neck and neck with Europe and the US,” he says. Zhang’s ultimate dream is to put a Chinese motorcycle on the top step of MotoGP, the “Formula 1 of two wheels”. “WSBK is just the beginning,” he says. “I won’t stop until a Chinese bike stands on a MotoGP podium.”
4. What did the chase after the TV staff reflect about Zhang
A. His physical fitness.
B. His super skills in motorcycle riding.
C. His persistence in business.
D. His determination to follow a dream.
5. Why did Zhang leave Kove Moto
A. The company was losing money.
B. His investors asked him to leave.
C. He preferred engineering to management.
D. He wanted full control of production.
6. What can be inferred from Zhang’s view on Chinese manufacturing
A. It will never catch up with Europe.
B. It lacks experience in high-end areas.
C. It depends too much on low costs.
D. It has closed the gap with developed nations.
7. What is the passage mainly about
A. How a self-taught mechanic defeated industrial giants.
B. Why Chinese motorcycles now lead the global market.
C. The history of a famous racing event in Portugal.
D. The business competition between Kove and ZXMOTO.

If a stranger knocked on your door asking for using your phone, would you help How about lending them five dollars for the bus, if they said they’d return and pay you back
Nowadays, many people find it hard to trust strangers. A recent study found that our ability to trust strangers may be more than just a social or psychological characteristic — it could be rooted in our DNA. This is important, as it turns out that trusting people might actually live longer and healthier lives compared to more skeptical (怀疑的) people.
Two main theories have appeared to explain why some people are more trusting than others. One suggests trust is a stable characteristic shaped by early life experiences. The other thinks it’s influenced by a person’s ongoing evaluation of the social environment. We can easily imagine that the answer to the question “Would you say that most people can be trusted ” would depend on whether you’d been robbed the day before or if you’d had your missing wallet returned.
This is where the recent research comes in. A professor of Lund University, Edgerton and his coworkers have been doing research about trust. In their most recent study, involving 33,882 Danish blood donors, they found a single gene (基因) — PLPP4, strongly associated with the personality of trusting others, and that the PLPP4 gene explained 6% of the difference in social trust within the study population. If you take two people who have similar education and life experiences, this gene alone could account for 6% of the difference in how much they trust others.
They believe that the PLPP4 gene may somehow soften our “fight-or-flight” survival response. If our fight-or-flight system is less strong when we meet new people, it makes sense that trusting others could have huge health benefits. Indeed, if trusting others acts as something against stress, it may lower the risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease.
As people continue to uncover the mysteries of trust, one thing is clear: understanding its genetic roots may hold the key to developing healthier communities in the world.
8. What might affect people’s trust levels according to the two main theories
A. Social experiences. B. Personal abilities.
C. Childhood habits. D. Communication skills.
9. What does the recent study focus on
A. The mental cause of trust.
B. The connection between trust and a gene.
C. The characteristics of different genes.
D. The ways to develop survival ability.
10. What does the passage say about trusting others
A. It helps to develop the world faster. B. It removes the strong stress in work.
C. It could bring health benefits. D. It causes quicker survival response.
11. What can be inferred from the passage
A. The ability to trust others relates to a gene.
B. How trusting you are frees people from disease.
C. The PLPP4 gene lays the foundation for survival response.
D. Your understanding of gene accounts for developed communities.

Scammers (骗子) are becoming tricky, turning to the Internet to better cheat their targets out of money. This includes using deep fakes (冒充者) to present themselves as someone else. Now, AI is being used in the fightback with Telecom Company O2 applying an AI granny in the action.
Daisy, an AI grandma created by British Telecom Company O2 as the cleverest scam fighter, is a new AI tool with the voice of a grandmother designed to talk with scammers and “waste as much of their time as possible”. Basically, she rambles on (絮叨) about anything and everything to keep them away from real people.
While Daisy may sound like a human, she is actually an AI large language model with the character application of a grandma. The company worked with known scam artists to train Daisy and used a method called Number Seeding to get Daisy’s phone number added to a list of online “mugs lists” --- lists used by scammers targeting UK users. She functions by listening to the scammers and translating their voice to text. The AI then searches its large database to find a suitable reply, based on the specific scam training she’s received, and translates that text answer to speech for Daisy to reply. All this happens in seconds with no additional input needed.
The goal is to keep the scammer on the phone for as long as possible by trapping them in a lifelike, but lengthy conversation. “Daisy is turning the tables on scammers — outsmarting them at their own pitiless game simply by keeping them on the line,” Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud at O2, explained.
O2 also hopes to draw attention to scams by warning users to be careful about who they may be speaking to. “No matter how good someone on the other end of the phone may be, they aren’t always who you think they are,” Murray said. “In terms of tips and tricks, whether you’re shopping online, reviewing your emails, or receiving an out-of-the-blue phone call, it’s important to always remain watchful.”
12. How does the AI granny fight against scammers
A. By telling scammers funny stories. B. By talking scammers into quitting.
C. By keeping scammers interested. D. By taking up scammers’ time.
13. Why does Daisy receive scam training
A. To react to scammers properly. B. To recognize scammers’ tricks.
C. To make herself more creative. D. To improve her translation skills.
14. What do the underlined words “turning the tables on” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Serving. B. Educating. C. Defeating. D. Tracking
15. What is Murray’s suggestion to the users
A. Stop answering calls. B. Use particular software.
C. Avoid shopping online. D. Raise anti-scam awareness.

Adam loved football. He loved the smell of the grass as he slid across it. And he loved the excitement when he shot the ball into the net. There was nothing in this world that could weigh the same as football in his heart. He dreamed of growing up to be a professional footballer.
Every day Adam would go to the field and practise with his friends. He still remembered when he asked to join the older boys, they teased (取笑)him,“You’ re too small. Football is for big, tough players, not for someone your size.” Then when they saw he could run, kick, and shoot as well as they could, the teasing stopped. Adam played hard and really had a gift. He even became the only one in the group who could do the bicycle kick(倒挂金钩)!
One day after school, Adam went to the playground to practise as usual. The boys were talking quietly, casting excited glances at a man who was watching the field. As Adam joined the group, Captain Harold told him the man, called Mr. Smith, was looking for players for his football camp and there would be a tryout match the next day.Adam could hardly contain his excitement. The camp meant there would be professional coaches to train him! He would do anything to join it.
After the practice, Mr. Smith approached and Adam crowded close so he could see him.“Who wants to come to my football camp and really learn to play this game ” Mr. Smith asked. Excited hands shot up. Mr. Smith shook them all and shook Adam’s hand last.
“Little man. I saw you run fast,” he said.“But you are far too thin and short for my camp. You’ll get knocked down in a second.”
Adam looked down so no one would see his disappointment.“It’s not fair! Adam’s been practising with us and he’s the only one who ever did the bicycle kick!” Harold argued.
