From Barbie dolls to Kung Fu Pandas, once-loved toys that kids have outgrown get a new chance (机会) to be loved again. This is the magic of Venezuela’s Hospital for Soft Toys.
It all started in 2017 with a simple question from a mum named Lilian Gluck: What should we do with all these old toys Instead of throwing them away, she chose to wash, repair and give them to young patients at the University Hospital of Caracas. Months later, she got lots of warm and nice words from people. Then she turned her home into the Hospital for Soft Toys, a non-profit foundation (非营利基金会).
Today, about 60 volunteers meet there at least twice a week to repair broken toys. They carefully sew rips, brush off dust or add new stuffing. Over the past seven years, about 70,000 toys have got a new life!
Repairing a soft toy for another round of love is also helpful to the volunteers. “All of us who come here get a special kind of comfort (安慰),” says 72-year-old Silvia Heiber. She has volunteered for nearly three years. “It’s like a therapy (疗法) where we care for each other.”
The repaired toys are not only sent to hospitals and schools in poor areas, but also to older people’s homes—anyone who needs a little bit of love. Each toy comes with a sweet note: “Hello! I am a doll with lots of happy memories (回忆). Take care of me, and I will bring you the same! When you grow up, pass me on to another child who will love me!”
32.What did Lilian do with the old toys at the beginning

B. To share the idea of passing on love.
C. To ask the new owner to return it later.
D. To show the hard work of the volunteers.

A. A Mother’s Simple Question
B. Old Toys, New Love
C. Venezuela’s Hospital for Soft Toys

41.We often hear a parent shout, “Tidy your room!” It’s thought that an unmade bed and messy (杂乱的) floor can make other family members stressed (有压力的).
A study found that mess and managing it mean a lot to happiness, while a messy living space can make people more stressed, especially women. On the other hand, some studies say mess may be the sign of creativity. So what do you think, is it OK to have a messy bedroom Recently, this topic has caused hot discussions online.
Yes—It’s not a big deal
It is important for children to have their own space where they can be themselves. By allowing (允许) children to keep their room as they want, parents are helping children prepare for later life. Also, clearing up your room is a waste of time and there are more important things to focus on, like work and hobbies. Anyway, there is a great chance of getting the room messy again.
No—mess leads to bad feelings
Research shows that in a messy room, you may feel worried and can’t focus on tasks like homework. A tidy room can improve clear thinking and calmness. It also means you have more space for activities and won’t lose things. What’s more, mess might be dangerous — you can fall down or knock something onto the floor and break it.
In my opinion, we can live according to our own willingness if we live alone. However, keeping our space clean and tidy is an important life skill. It is unfair (不公平的) to other family members if our room is messy as it is part of their home too, and we should respect that.

46.A special outdoor activity
Time flies. In the past year, I joined many outdoor events, but one of them was truly unforgettable.
Last autumn, my classmates and I went hiking in a nearby mountain forest. We started early in the morning, carrying backpacks with snacks and water. Along the way, we admired colorful leaves, listened to birds singing, and even spotted a squirrel! At noon, we picnicked under a giant tree, sharing sandwiches and laughter.
What made this trip special was the sense of teamwork. When some struggled on steep paths, others offered help. Laughter echoed through the woods as we played games. By the end, I felt both exhausted and joyful. Nature taught me the beauty of cooperation and simple pleasures.
This experience reminded me that outdoor activities are not just about exercise—they create lasting memories and strengthen bonds.
