Today we learn about the Chinese flute (长笛)—a traditional musical instrument. Some scientists find it has a history of over 8,000 years. According to research, the first known Chinese flutes were made of the bones of cranes (鹤).
In ancient times, people carved the bones with great effort and put five to seven holes in them. A player holds the flute up to his mouth and straight out to the right. The air moves through the flute, and then it makes a musical sound. The player presses different keys on the flute to make different musical sounds.
Later, most flutes are made of bamboo. They are generally dissevered into two types. In the north, the flute which is used to accompany the Bangzi Opera is called Bangdi. This flute is short. In the south, the flute which is used to accompany the Kunqu Opera is called Qudi. This flute is longer and thicker than the Bangdi and the music style is gentler. Now, some flutes are even made of plastic.
Because it sounds great and is easy to learn, the Chinese flute is one of the most popular musical instruments in Asia now. You can be sure that flute makers will always be on the lookout for better quality of sound.

The Grand Canyon: Earth’s Open Book
How amazing our planet is! On its surface, there are wonders that make us gasp. One of them is the Grand Canyon in the United States—a giant crack in the land that stretches over 277 miles. Its red and orange rock layers, carved by the Colorado River for millions of years, look like pages of a history book.
Nothing compares to standing at the canyon’s edge. Something in the air feels ancient here. The canyon’s walls reveal stories of Earth’s past—volcanoes, oceans, and deserts that once covered this land. If you look closely, you might find fossils of creatures that lived long before humans.
What a view it offers! Visitors often shout, “How breathtaking this is!” as they watch sunlight paint the rocks gold at sunrise. Everyone can enjoy its beauty: hikers explore its trails, photographers capture its colors, and scientists study its secrets.
Though the Grand Canyon seems timeless, it needs protection. Pollution or careless actions could harm its fragile ecosystem. Let’s remember: this wonder belongs to everyone on the planet, and we must do everything to keep it safe for future generations.

The Grand Canyon: Earth’s Open Book

【答案】例文
Sima Guang Hit the Tank
Once upon a time, Sima Guang and his friends played hide-and-seek in the garden.
Suddenly, a boy fell into a big water tank. He was frightened and couldn’t get out. The other kids ran for help, but Sima Guang stayed. He thought over the problem carefully. Then he picked up a big stone and hit the tank hard. The tank broke, water ran out, and the boy was saved.
I think Sima Guang was clever and brave. When in danger, he didn’t panic. Instead, he stayed calm and found a way out. This story tells us to think carefully when we face difficulties.
