It was a cold march day in High Point, North Carolina. The girls on the Wesleyan Academy softball team were waiting for their next turns at bat during practice, stamping their feet to stay warm. Eighth-grader Taylor Bisbee shivered(发抖) a little as she watched her teammate Paris White play. The two didn’t know each other well —Taylor had moved to the town only a month or so ago.
Suddenly, Paris fell to the ground. “Paris’s eyes rolled back,” Taylor says. “She started shaking. I knew it was an emergency. ”
It certainly was. Paris had suffered a sudden heart failure. Without immediate medical care, Paris would die. At first, no one moved. The other girls were in shock. Then the softball coach shouted, “Does anyone know CPR ”
CPR is a life-saving technique. To do CPR, you press on the sick person’s chest so that blood moves through the body and takes oxygen to organs. Without oxygen the brain is damaged quickly.
Amazingly, Taylor had just taken a CPR course the day before. Still, she hesitated. She didn’t think she knew it well enough. But when no one else came forward, Taylor ran to Paris and began doing CPR. “It was scary. I knew it was the difference between life and death. ” Taylor says. After about five minutes of hard work, one girl called 911. Two men got to the school with a defibrillator(除颤仪), an electronic device that can shock the heart back into work. Luck stayed with their teammate’s heartbeat.
“I knew I was really lucky,” Paris says now. “Most people don’t survive this. My team saved my life. ”
Experts say Paris is right: For a sudden heart failure, the single best chance for survival is having someone nearby step in and do CPR quickly.
Today, Paris is back on the softball team. Taylor will apply to college soon. She wants to be a nurse. “I feel more confident in my actions now,” Taylor says. “I know I can act under pressure in a scary situation. ”
24. What happened to Paris during the softball practice
A. She passed out while waiting to bat.
B. She fainted from cold and dreariness.
C. She got hit by an unexpected softball.
D. She had a sudden life-threatening heart problem.

A. The coach’s quick CPR rescuer.
B. Taylor’s timely CPR and team’s help.
C. Paris’s good health and fast recovery.
D. She avoided the first-aid emergency op.
26. What can we infer from Taylor’s experience
A. She hesitated at first to act.
B. She built up others’ solving ability.
C. She learned CPR the day before.
D. She survived the coach’s call.
27. Which of the following words can best describe Taylor
A. Courageous and calm.
B. Enthusiastic and kind.
C. Cooperative and generous.
D. Ambitious and professional.

Thirty years ago, travel was far simpler affairs — no online bookings, no linear GPS, and brick-like mobile phones that barely served as communication tools. Today, technological innovations have transformed how we explore the world, bringing unparalleled convenience while also posing new challenges.
AI-powered tools can plan trips, align flights and hotels for customer service and pricing. Beyond planning, UK airports use 3D scanners to speed up security by eliminating the need to remove liquids and laptops. Singapore Changi Airport even uses facial recognition, letting passengers pass through security in 10 seconds. Virtual reality (VR) also changes hotel views with 70% of travellers willing to use “virtual destinations” — hour travel services are VR now to show potential hotel rooms, enabling online bookings.
Smartphones have become integral travel companions, replacing maps, cameras, and wallets. They enable QR code payments, instant text translations, and digital tickets. Augmented reality (AR) takes this further by overlaying digital information on real scenery: museums use enhanced reality, Disney theme parks insert immersive projections, and cities like Shanghai offer AR maps to locate hidden attractions. The AR travel market is projected to grow from $295 in 2025 to $108bn by 2034, thanks to easy access via QR and AI-connected content.
However, technology’s impact is not purely positive. Social media fuels overtourism, and focusing on capturing moments online reduces authentic travel joys. Additionally, automated services and information overload cause many traditional travel agents lose jobs — leading to a 23% drop in app downloads in 2024.
Virtual assistants within travel apps, Wearable tech smart glass offer on-the-go translation and information, but five innovations like Sentient’s wearable assist those with disabilities. Trends like super booking and personalized itineraries, self-driving taxis will further reshape travel. As technology evolves, travel will become more seamless and enriching.
28. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By describing a situation.
B. By giving an example.
C. By presenting a problem.
D. By making a contrast.
29. What helps to speed airport security
A. To accelerate security procedures.
B. To create virtual tour experience.
C. To help determine tour route.
D. To design wayfinding applications.
30. What is a negative effect of technology in travel
A. Wasted money on renovations.
B. Increased cost of service services.
C. Decreased help for locals.
D. Dropped options for trip planning.
31. What is the main idea for the passage
A. AI tech conquers everywhere.
B. Travel leans into interaction.
C. Tech influences travel greatly.
D. Modern travel’s necessity.

China is recognized as a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and facial recognition systems. A Chinese company says it has created a new facial recognition system that can identify people even if they are wearing masks. Engineers at the firm behind this system say their system is the first to be created to effectively identify masked people.
The company put a huge agency that a team of 20 people built the system in about a month. The system is capable of correctly identifying nearly all masked individuals in real time. The process involved adding a collection of about six million unmasked faces and a much smaller collection of masked faces.
The company is now selling two new products that make use of the new technology. One performs “single channel recognition”, which was designed to be used at the entrance. The other product is a “multi-channel” recognition system that uses groups of surveillance(监控) cameras. It can identify individuals in a crowd of up to 30 people within a second.
“When people are wearing a mask that covers the mouth and the nose, the recognition rate can reach 95%, which means that most people can be picked out,” said Huang, vice president of the company. He added that the system’s success rate for people not wearing a mask was 99. 5%.
However, the new system struggles if someone is wearing both a mask and sunglasses. “In this situation, all of the key facial information is lost. In such cases recognition is tricky,” Huang said.
People want to wear masks to avoid catching illness. While some clients have been eager testing such tools, many governments and citizens are against excessive monitoring and each individual.
32. What difficulty did the company face in building the system
A. It gathered many face images.
B. It used the latest technology.
C. It added a collection of a masked man.
D. It employed hundreds of people.
33. What can we know about the new system
A. Its success rate is affected by eyewear.
B. It recognizes groups of people in seconds.
C. In performance changes with the location.
D. It does better in identifying unmasked faces.
34. What does the underlined word “excessive” in paragraph 5 mean
A. Tough. B. Specific. C. Normal. D. Different.
35. What is most people’s attitude towards the new system
A. Incurious. B. Concerned. C. Objective. D. Supportive.

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn’t see any rain soon we would lose everything. I was in the kitchen making lunch for my husband and his brothers when I saw my six-year-old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. I could only see his back. He wasn’t walking in his usual way, he was obviously walking with a great effort, trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house. Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful long step toward the woods. This activity went on for over an hour: walking cautiously to the woods, running back to the home. Finally, my curiosity got the better of me. I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.
He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked; being very careful not to spill the water he held in them. I followed secretly as he stepped into the woods. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He might have a much greater purpose, as I wasn’t able to see it at first. After several large steps appearing threatening in front of him. But Billy walked right up to them, at the sight of him I almost screamed for him to get away. A huge buck(雄鹿) was dangerously close. But the buck didn’t threaten nor even move its head down. And then I saw a baby deer lying on the ground, obviously suffering from thirst and heat, lift its head with great effort to lap (舔) the water cupped in my beautiful boy’s hands.
Paragraph 1: When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house.
Paragraph 2: Instead of scolding him like his father, I decided to help him.

第二节 读后续写范文
When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. I followed him home quietly. He turned on the tap and filled his cupped hands again carefully. Realizing what he was doing, my eyes were filled with tears. He kept fetching water repeatedly to relieve the thirsty baby deer in the woods.
Instead of scolding him like his father, I decided to help him. I fetched a big bottle and filled it with clean water. Together we walked into the forest and fed the little deer patiently. Soon after, dark clouds gathered and rain poured down. Watching the deer regain energy in the cool rain, we both wore big smiles.
