Under the Queensland sun, Jo McVilly, a dog trainer with a big heart, saw two lonely groups: dogs having a lot of energy but with no place to play, and people with disabilities having few chances to connect or work. She dreamed of a place where both could thrive. Thus, IronBark DogPark was born — far more than a mere playground for pets, but a training ground for hope and belonging.
Jo’s vision was simple but powerful. She partnered with professional consultants to create the Encompass Wellbeing program. Within this supportive framework, participants engage in structured animal care while receiving gentle guidance. For Amber who has a brain injury, gently brushing a dog is just a small and manageable job but can do wonders. “Coming here steady my nerves and makes me feel relaxed,” she says.
The dogs are equally enthusiastic participants. “The dogs know what day it is — they’re already bothering their owners at 5 or 6 in the morning,” Jo laughs. Over sixty dogs, from young dogs to old-timers, enjoy the lively, well-organized play. Meanwhile, their human helpers build skills. Sage, who is unable to hear well, is steadily training to be a professional dog groomer (美容师). She shares, her hands gently resting on a Labrador, that working with animals every day has always been her dream.
Jo’s project has touched the hearts of thousands of people, even going viral online. She believes true success is mutual. “My intended aim with the dogs is obviously to find their happy place,” she explains, “but the result is, it allows the humans to find their happy place as well.” In this inclusive park, every wagging (摇动的) tail tells a story of purpose and newfound joy.
24. Why was IronBark DogPark created
A. To improve recreational facilities.
B. To support energetic dogs and the disabled.
C. To strengthen human-animal bonds.
D. To provide professional health care training.
25. How does the program benefit Amber
A. By referring her to consultants.
B. By requiring regular participation.
C. By calming her with simple tasks.
D. By supplying structured instruction.
26. What does Sage’s experience illustrate
A. The importance of contact with pets.
B. The dogs’ high anticipation for visits.
C. The challenges of working with animals.
D. The program’s role in career development.
27. What do Jo’s words imply in the last paragraph
A. Dogs’ happiness is different from humans’.
B. Dogs’ welfare is one of her priorities.
C. Dogs’ wellbeing interconnects with humans.
D. Dogs’ popularity leads to her success.

Wishing for an extra hour in the day is a common thought throughout the industrialized world. And every fall, in places where the clocks fall back an hour, that wish reaches fruition. Yet many people still wind up feeling time-poor. What gives Recent research shows that time poverty depends more on perceived shortages than actual ones. Constant interruptions, long to-do lists and lack of control over one’s time all exacerbate time poverty.
Yet policies tend to focus on increasing real, rather than felt, time. For instance, employers often regulate work hours. But without addressing people’s subjective sense of time, those efforts are likely to fall short.
To start, researchers need a baseline for how much time is considered “enough”. Analysis of data from over 35,000 Americans suggests that two to five hours of daily leisure correlates with the highest well-being. Both too little and too much free time were linked to lower well-being.
But optimal (最佳的) free time was subjective. If a person devoted their free time to hobbies or quality time with other people, the link between too much free time and reduced well-being disappeared. On the contrary, the findings suggest that anyone with fewer than two hours of free time daily should struggle.
Meanwhile, Sun, from Beijing Normal University, and her colleagues have been investigating the 2024 time-use survey of 100,000 people. Over half the respondents who reported feelings of time poverty had more than 1.8 hours of free time per day, whereas more than a third who had less than that reported not feeling time poor. This highlights the role of perception (感知).
Further study revealed that high time pressure, intensity and fragmentation were all linked to higher feelings of time poverty. In contrast, feeling involved in activities was associated with a greater feeling of time wealth.
Reducing time poverty requires both individual and societal changes. Individually, people can track how they spend time to identify waste. Socially, workplaces can reduce interruptions and allow short breaks. True time wealth comes not from more minutes, but from better quality.
28. What does the underlined word “exacerbate” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean
A. Intensify. B. Relieve. C. Define. D. Prove.
29. What do the researchers think of “enough” leisure time
A. It is unchangeable. B. It is individualized.
C. It is related to age. D. It varies with usage.
30. What is the author’s view on time wealth
A. Interruptions help it. B. More time is better.
C. Quality matters most. D. Hobbies determine it.
31. What’s the text mainly about
A. Time poverty’s causes and solutions.
B. Time poverty and people’s perception.
C. The subjective factors leading to time poverty.
D. How to improve time quality to avoid time poverty.

Germany is transforming a 580-acre abandoned airport into an eco-friendly neighborhood — a project officials hope will serve as a blueprint for other disused airports.
The old airport shut down after a new, modern one was built nearby. In 2017, developers announced the 5 million-square-meter Tegel Projekt, which aims to solve urban problems like car pollution and housing shortages.
The new area will have large green spaces, bike lanes, and 5,000 affordable, energy-efficient homes for over 10,000 people. It will also include facilities such as daycare centers, schools, and shops; an extra 4,000 homes are planned for the surrounding areas. “We want people to rediscover public spaces for socializing, playing, or relaxing,” said Constanze Doll, the project’s spokesperson. “Important places like kindergartens, bakeries, and supermarkets can be easily reached on foot”.
Eco-friendliness is at the core of the design: vertical gardens on apartment buildings(to keep them cool without expensive, energy-hungry air conditioning), solar panels on every rooftop to supply electricity, and “Sponge City” technology — like pavements that let water seep through and rain gardens — to collect water. Builders will also use local wood and cut emissions to make the construction process carbon-neutral.
Turning old airports into neighborhoods isn’t common, but it’s not the first time. For example, in America, after Denver’s main airport moved to a new site 25 miles from the city center, developers turned the old airport(3 miles from town) into a residential community with over 3,500 single-family homes, parks, shops, and even an ice rink in a former aircraft hangar.
Next to Tegel’s new neighborhood will be a commercial zone using some old airport infrastructure, including “Urban Tech Republic” for tech companies and a campus for Berliner Hochschule für Technik University. Construction started in 2023, with the first areas opening by 2027, and there are plans for electric buses and a tramway.
“The streets and squares will belong to the people again, rather than to cars,” Doll added.
32. Which of the following best describes the new area introduced in Paragraph 3
A. Sustainable and habitable. B. Connected and luxurious.
C. High-end and futuristic. D. Developed and multicultural.
33. What can we learn from the Denver airport redevelopment
A. It focused mainly on commercial spaces.
B. It served as a model for the Tegel Project.
C. It reused old airport for residential purpose.
D. It addressed housing shortages for the nation.
34. What might be the author’s attitude towards the Tegel Project
A. Indifferent. B. Optimistic. C. Doubtful. D. Tolerant.
35. What would be the best title for the passage
A. Berlin’s Old Airports: History and Current Challenges
B. Public Spaces: Their Role in neighborhoods
C. Germany’s Urban Issues: Solving Housing Shortages
D. Tegel Airport: From Abandoned Site to Eco-neighborhood

How to Take Notes for Maximum Learning
To maximize the effectiveness of your learning, you should involve as many senses as possible. If you’re just listening to a class or watching an instructional video, you’re using two senses: hearing and sight. 36________________ However, different note-taking methods have different effects.
Copying Text (Effectiveness: 2/10)
A very popular form of note-taking is to copy a part of a book or article over in a notebook. But this is close to useless. When you’re copying, you’re not paying attention to the meaning of what you’re writing. 37____________
Highlighting Text (Effectiveness: 3/10)
There’s a really important problem with highlighting — it’s subjective. When you highlight something, you tell your brain that it’s an important piece of information. 38_________ So when you go over your material, don’t focus only on your highlights.
Flashcards (Effectiveness: 6/10)
39___________ If you write down: “What are the problems of highlighting ” you could add drawings or images about things that will make you recall the answer more easily.
Review Questions (Effectiveness: 8/10)
If you want to take your note-taking skills to the next level, the following is what you need to do. 40__________ For example, if you want to remember the problems of highlighting, you could write: “Why should I NOT highlight text ” By not writing the answer, you force your brain to go into “active” mode and work to recall the answer.
A. Flashcards make your learning enjoyable.
B. The act of taking notes adds touch to the mix.
C. Reviewing questions can help you learn actively.
D. Essentially, you’re not focused on the comprehension.
E. But most of the time, you can’t tell what matters more.
F. Write down questions about things you want to remember.
G. Flashcards are nice because you can add visual components.

“Can I take piano lessons like Nicole ” my seven-year-old daughter Tami begged one evening while I was cooking dinner. Nicole was our next-door neighbor and Tami’s best friend.
The question caught me off guard. Between caring for Tami’s two little brothers, helping with homework, and doing endless housework, I could hardly find a quiet moment for myself. Piano lessons meant time, money, and more driving. “Maybe next year,” I said softly, hoping she would forget it.
But she didn’t. Every time she heard Nicole practicing, her eyes filled with longing. “Please, Mommy,” she begged again one night, “I really want to play.”
Her words awakened something deep inside me. Years ago, I had played the piano too, before marriage, before children, before time slipped away. The old upright piano in our living room stood silent, gathering dust — a reminder of dreams once alive.
Finally, I decided to let Tami take lessons. When I took her to her first class, I stood by the door, watching her tiny fingers press the keys. Maybe my face showed my longing to feel those keys under my fingers, so the teacher gently mentioned that she could give us a family rate. I smiled and shook my head, telling myself there would be time someday — but the thought stayed in my heart.
Over the next week, I encouraged Tami to practice daily. At first, she played eagerly, but soon discouragement replaced excitement. She began to complain that the pieces were too difficult, and I couldn’t help reminding her how fortunate she was to have this chance. Only then did I realize that I had longed to be the one sitting at the piano, letting music flow through my fingers.
That evening, while Tami and her two brothers played outside, I sat down at the piano, opened her beginner’s book, and tried a few notes. The sound was uneven, but something inside me woke up. I worked my way through a song before my kids came in.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】One possible version:
Seeing me playing the piano, Tami sat beside me on the seat. Her eyes widened in surprise as she watched my fingers move across the keys. “Mommy, you can play!” she exclaimed, her voice filled with admiration. I smiled and nodded, explaining that I used to play when I was her age. Tami immediately asked me to teach her the song I had just played. Sitting side by side, we practiced together, her small hands mimicking mine. The frustration she had felt earlier seemed to melt away, replaced by the joy of learning alongside her mom.
From that evening on, Tami and I filled our home with music. We made a deal to practice together every day after dinner. The old upright piano, once silent and dusty, became the heart of our home. Her teacher was delighted to see Tami’s renewed enthusiasm and progress. Through music, we not only shared a beautiful skill but also deepened our bond. I realized that sometimes, the best way to encourage our children is not just by pushing them forward, but by walking the path right beside them.
