was jobless, so the family could hardly make ends meet.
Every day after school, George would watch his schoolmates buy berries. “You never know how tiring it is to work 12 hours a day,” George was told when he asked his father to buy him some berries. He felt sad.
One day, when he walked past a wealthy neighbor's house, he saw the neighbor's daughter putting a basket of berries in the garden and going back inside. Little George wanted to have some so he climbed over the fence and ran towards the basket to pick a handful. But when he stood up, he saw the neighbor's daughter standing before him, and she shouted, “Thief!” Her family soon came outside, and they scolded (责骂) him.
The next day, when George walked into his classroom, his classmates started shouting, “Thief! Thief!” He turned around to run away, but Miss Ann stopped him. One boy named David stood up and said, “He is a thief, Miss. I saw him trying to steal berries yesterday.”
George started to cry. The teacher told him to stop crying. She made him sit alone and continued the class.
After class, Miss Ann brought George to her office. She asked him if he had indeed tried to steal berries yesterday. “Yes...I did,” said the boy. “I'm sorry.” The teacher said, “Remember, dear George, there will be times when you really want something. You can't get it every time. But you should never try to steal it. Okay ”
“Okay. Thank you, Miss Ann,” George replied.

In a milestone for China's space biology research, four specially chosen mice will get on the Shenzhou-21 spacecraft. They will go to the Tiangong Space Station for a 5-to-7-day task. This is the country's first experiment with small mammals (哺乳动物) in space. These tiny “astronauts” passed hard tests to get their tickets to space.
The journey started with 300 mice. After 60 days of strict checks, the number got smaller. The mice faced some important challenges. They needed to stay on a turning stick for more than 110 seconds to show they were strong. They also went through spins (旋转) in different directions to test a part of their body. This part helps them not feel sick in space. Besides, they walked through mazes (迷宫) to show they could find their way. At last, two male mice and two female mice were chosen for the task. These black mice are from a special group. Their genes are almost the same. This makes their differences small, so the experiment’s data will be correct and easy to compare. This is better than the more common white mice with different genes.
The home for the mice in space is a special box. It has systems to control temperature, give food and water, and collect waste. There is even a thing for them to dig, just like they do on Earth. This special box helps the mice live in an artificial environment far from their natural home. Once they are in space, astronauts will move the mice to a long-term research platform (装置) for small animals. The platform was sent earlier by the Tianzhou-9. The ground teams will watch the mice’s behavior through real-time cameras. They want to study how microgravity (微重力) and small spaces affect the mice’s ability to get used to the environment and their stress. A special experiment will also look at how the space environment connects to the start of genetic codes (基因密码).
This task is a “from 0 to 1” achievement. It tests technologies to safely send, keep, and bring back mammals from space. Mice share 85% of their genes with humans, so they are good models to understand how space affects living things. The data collected will help protect astronauts during long space trips. It will also support China’s plan to send astronauts to the moon before 2030 and explore Mars later.
After their trip in space, the mice will come back to Earth on Shenzhou-20. Scientists will study them more. Just like human astronauts, these small explorers are helping humans go deeper into space.

In early 2026, the Ministry of Education made a new guideline (方针) to build “healthy schools” across
China. It tries to 41 the focus from “score first” to “health first”. More and more students are facing
serious physical and mental health problems which have brought great 42 to schools and families.
A big difficulty is that some schools have cut down PE classes. To solve this, strict checks are needed.
Officials need to check schools and watch students’ daily exercise 43 every school term. The scores
of students’ PE tests should be taken into school grades, and health records should be open to the public.
In fact, proper exercise makes students more active and better at learning, 44 many parents worry
that exercise takes up students’ study time. To help students get enough rest and sports, too much
after-school 45 should be reduced.
The guideline also pays attention to college students’ health. In the past, upperclassmen (高年级学生)
had few PE classes and took little exercise. Now colleges should offer them PE classes and ask them to
exercise at least three times a week.
Mental health is an 46 problem, too. Schools, families and society should work with each other.
Teachers need to notice students’ mental problems early and give them help in time.
The guideline will help schools change their ideas. It shows that health is the 47 lesson for every
student.

You may notice that horses appear in many Chinese idioms. These horse-related sayings offer a chance
for us to learn about Chinese culture and ancient wisdom.
“A horse that covers a thousand miles” is perhaps the most famous horse idiom. It is used to describe
someone with amazing talent. The idiom comes from a certain legendary (传奇的) horse which could run
1,000 miles in a single day.
“A swift horse needs a good rider” adds another meaning to this idea. Although talented person (“swift
horses”) might be common, a good leader who can discover talent (“good riders”) is uncommon. This saying
tells why good riders are important—they believe in swift horses and can give them chances.
“Ride a horse while looking for a better one” describes someone who keeps searching for better chances.
Chinese people use this idiom to describe practical people who never stop improving themselves.
“An old horse knows the way” celebrates the wisdom that comes with experience. Experienced people
can guide others through difficult situations. This idiom shows that Chinese people respect the elders and
their wisdom.
“A painted horse won't nun” warns against valuing appearance over substance (实质). No matter how
beautifully you paint a horse, it will never gallop (驰骋). Similarly, beautiful promises without real action
are worthless. This idiom teaches Chinese people to value practical results over empty words.
These horse idioms show how ancient Chinese people observed (观察) horses' strength, speed, and
intelligence, turning these observations into lessons about humanity, nature and success.

The Temple of Heaven, a landmark (地标) cultural symbol of Beijing, appears everywhere in daily city
life—on metro cards, bank signs, hotel logos and so on. In 1998, the Temple of Heaven was listed on the
UNESCO World Heritage List. It is widely praised as a precious treasure of ancient Chinese architectural
(建筑) and cultural wisdom.
Built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty, around the time when Emperor Yongle prepared to move China's
national capital to Beijing, the Temple of Heaven served as a place to honor ancestors for emperors of the
Ming and Qing dynasties for nearly 500 years. Emperors held ceremonies here for good harvests and
national peace. Standing along Beijing's Central Axis (中轴), the Temple of Heaven follows the ancient
Chinese thought of “round heaven and square earth”, with round northern walls and square southern walls.

its 28 huge pillars (立柱) placed in three circles based on cultural meanings. The four inner pillars mean the
four seasons; the 12 middle pillars mean the 12 lunar months; the 12 outer pillars are the 12 traditional
two-hour periods of a day. Furthermore, the 24 middle and outer pillars match the 24 solar terms (24节气).
Today, the Temple of Heaven is not only a witness (见证者) to China's long history but also an important
