Many natural disasters happen suddenly, On 7 January 2025, an earthquake hit Dingri County in Xizang. The earthquake brought a lot of damage (损坏) and problems to the local area. However, China showed an amazing rescue speed.

Last summer I got the chance to spend a month helping out in a hospital in Rwanda with my parents, who work for a charity. I had one year left at senior high school, and was interested in studying medicine at university. I thought it would be the perfect chance to see if I really wanted to be a doctor. It was a month that changed my life. I was introduced to a completely different world from the one I knew in so many ways, and I soon realized how difficult people’s lives can be. But I was also amazed at how positively (乐观地) people go about their everyday lives. Although I’m a girl, I’m not afraid of getting dirty or tired at all. My work in the hospital was hard. I spent a lot of time cleaning floors, and I also got to spend some time looking after the patients. I even got the chance to talk to some doctors and ask them about the profession. All of them told me how difficult being a doctor in that hospital was sometimes—hard work and long hours, and so many emotional (情绪的) challenges. But all of them also said that they didn’t want to practise their profession anywhere else, because having seen the influence they were having on that community, they just wanted to go on. At times, it was a difficult experience, but it didn’t change my mind about being a doctor. When I finish, I know exactly what I’m going to do: I want to work for an international organization like the Red Cross or Médecins sans Frontières, so I can spend my life helping people overseas who really need it. I can’t wait to get started.
