The Yangtze River is the longest river in China. It is the home to over 400 species (物种) like the Chinese sturgeon (中华鲟). The Chinese sturgeon is one of the largest fish in the world and it’s long. A Chinese sturgeon can grow up to about 5m long, over 500kg and live to be 40 years old. They’ve lived on the Earth for about 140,000,000 years, so people call them a “living fossil (化石)”.
The Chinese sturgeon was prevalent in the river before. However, it’s in danger now. Fishing too much in the 1970s made the species fewer and fewer. And in 1981, the building of the Gezhouba Dam put the sturgeon into two groups. The two groups could not get together. As a result, the species became even fewer. So the help for the Chinese sturgeon is very necessary.
Luckily, China already took action. On May 14th, Shanghai passed a new rule to help the Chinese sturgeon. This was the first rule in China to help one fish in danger. From January 2020, China also started to stop people from fishing in the Yangtze River. It will last for ten years. We believe the Chinese sturgeon will become more and more. We should also play a part in saving the species in danger.
9.From Paragraph 1, we can know about the ________ of the Chinese sturgeon.

C.People mustn’t fish in the Yangtze River from May, 2020.
D.A new rule was passed in Shenzhen to help the Chinese sturgeon.
12.What is the writer’s purpose (目的) in writing the text
A.To start to go fishing. B.To make a new rule.
C.To save the Chinese sturgeon. D.To clean the Yangtze River.

Shakespeare’s Fun With Words
William Shakespeare was a famous British playwright and poet. Many people think he was the best at using words in all of British history. His influence on the English language is still felt today.
Shakespeare lived from 1564 to 1616. It was a time when many things were changing. Wars were going on and people were exploring new lands. This made the English language keep changing, too. Shakespeare added to this change through his plays.
In order for his characters to fully express their feelings, Shakespeare created new ways of saying things. Sometimes, he borrowed words from other languages. He also changed the way English words were used. Nouns were turned into verbs, and verbs were changed into adjectives. He also added parts to words to change their meaning. If he could not find the right word, he would simply invent a new one.
Shakespeare also coined new phrases and sayings. Many of these are still used today. For example, “heart of gold” from Henry Ⅴ (《亨利五世》) is used to describe someone who is kind and caring.
Shakespeare used language in new and clever ways in his plays. Because of this, his works are still loved by audiences today.

15.What does the underlined word “coined” mean in English
A.Created. B.Copied. C.Paid. D.Hid.

Dear fellow students,
At present, some students have tried using AI tools in their studies. In my opinion, AI can be a helpful partner in our learning if used properly.
We should use AI to solve difficult problems, like explaining grammar rules or analyzing math errors. It can also provide extra practice materials to help us review. But we must remember not to rely on it completely. We should think independently first before turning to AI for help.
I hope all of us can learn to use AI wisely. Let’s make it a tool to improve our study efficiency and become masters of our own learning.
