Fan Zhendong, one of China’s top table tennis players, started a new chapter in his career after the 2024 Paris Olympics. He joined TTBL (German Table Tennis Bundesliga), the top professional table tennis league in Germany, instead of staying in international competitions like WTT.
Why did he make this choice For years, Fan has spoken out about problems in international events, such as too many matches that tire players out and unfair distribution of commercial value. By moving to TTBL, he can still compete with world-class players from different countries to keep his skills sharp. At the same time, he hopes to learn from Europe’s professional league experience to help develop China’s table tennis league in the future.
Fan’s journey in TTBL hasn’t been easy. In his first match on August 31, 2025, he lost two games in a row to Ruiz and Duda. But he didn’t give up. He worked hard to improve his receiving skills and quickly got used to the league’s style. Soon, his winning rate rose to an amazing 80%, and he ended the first phase with 4 wins and 3 losses. His excellent performance made him popular—tickets for his first match sold out in just 3 minutes, and his team’s social media gained thousands of new followers. Even TTBL honored him by putting him on the homepage of its 60th anniversary celebration, calling him a “key force for global development.”

③The three are from different schools in Beijing. Their shared interest in programming brought them together in a class at a science museum. “Each of us was good at different parts of programming, so we decided to take part in the competition as a team,” said 13-year-old Zhang Luotu, the team leader from The Experimental High School Attached to Beijing Normal University.

This can help people adjust (调整) quickly.

When it comes to preparing for exams, different countries have their own ways. What do you usually do before exams Are there any special traditions in your country
In China, we have some interesting traditions for some important exams. We often eat zongzi, the word “zong” sounds like “success” in Chinese, which means getting high scores. Additionally (另外), some students prefer to wear red clothes or socks because the color red is the symbol of joy and good luck in Chinese culture. In recent years, it has become popular for mothers to wear qipao (a traditional Chinese dress) to wish their children to get victory in the exam, as its name carries the meaning “qi kai de sheng”.
Xie Guoliang,15, Jiangsu
In South Korea, we give our friends sticky rice (糯米) cakes and candies before exams. This is because the word “stick” sounds like “pass” in Korean. People believe that eating sticky food helps students “stick” to success and pass their tests. I remember when my best friend had a big test, I bought his favorite sticky rice cakes to cheer him up. This tradition makes us feel warm and confident during stressful exam time.
Chulkyu Lee, 18, South Korea
In the US, we have different habits before exams. Some wear “lucky” clothes, like special socks or underwear (内衣) for good luck. Others do simple things, like doing exercise or eating snacks that they think are lucky.
I always use the same special pencil for exams. I feel it helps me do better. These small traditions help me feel calm and focused.

My name is Li Hui. I am writing to you about the summer study trip to the UK. I hope you are well.
I am very excited about this trip! For the course schedule, I have a few ideas. First, I think it would be great to have some lessons about British culture and history. Second, I hope we can have some fun and interesting activities, like group work or discussions. Third, I wonder if we can have a balance between learning in the classroom and visiting places outside. This way, it won’t be too easy or too busy.
Thank you for reading my ideas. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours,
Li Hui
