Before I was in Grade Three, I didn't like to help others. I would get nervous and shy when someone asked me for help. Things changed when I was in Grade Four.
It was a cloudy morning. I was walking to school when I met a tall man. He stood at the crossing. I found it a little strange that it was early in the morning and yet he was wearing sunglasses. But I crossed the road without thinking too much about it. Bikers, drivers, and walkers were all in a rush.
When I reached the other side and walked along the road, suddenly I heard cars and buses sounding their horns (喇叭). I turned around and saw that the man was in the middle of the road. It seemed that he was too scared to move. Just then, I knew that the man wasn't able to see. Without thinking twice, I quickly ran back and helped him safely cross the road. The man turned his head to me and smiled, saying, "Thank you very much for your kind help.
It made me feel good to hear those words. In fact, I felt so good that I asked him where he was going and if he needed more help. He told me that he was going to the market not far from my school. I walked the man to the market and then left for my school.
From then on, I often tried to help people in need. And now, I volunteer to help out at a nursing home in my neighbourhood every Sunday. Helping others really matters in my life. Being helpful makes me happy and I no longer find it ▲ .

Is the summer vacation long enough to turn life for the better Every person has his or her own talents and interests. Find something you care about, and you will see the difference.
Organize a clean-up program. People often throw litter in the place where there is already litter. This leaves the community in a mess. The environment will become better if someone volunteers to help. You could pick up the rubbish once a week in your neighbourhood. You could also help take care of plants every few days. Surely, a clean and tidy neighbourhood will be worth the work.
Show your love to the elderly. Our city has some nursing homes. Without children around them. the elderly there might feel lonely once in a while. Maybe they need your help. In fact, you can do a lot for them. For example, you can talk with them or play games with them. Listening to them carefully is also a good idea. Some elderly people can't see clearly and they would like you to read to them. No matter what small things you do, you can make them feel loved.
Set up a reading project with your friends. Share your favourite books with them. Besides, you may read aloud to each other and talk about what you read. Either a book or an article can spark a lively discussion and your further thinking. The process often challenges more people to take action. At the same time, you may find new friends with similar hobbies.
A two-month summer vacation is enough to make a difference.

Hello, everyone!
I am Li Hua. Today my topic is"Work as a Volunteer".I am glad to share my volunteer story with you. Volunteering not only gives me a chance to do something helpful, but also makes me understand the importance of love.
Last month, my friends and I volunteered at a nursing home. The moment we arrived, we noticed that many elderly people suffered from loneliness. So we actively chatted with them with friendly smiles. Besides chatting, we taught them to do simple exercises and make beautiful paper-cuts. We brought joy to their days and truly raised their spirits.
From this experience, I have realized that a kind word and a bright smile can easily pass on love and warmth. We can do some volunteer work to help people in need!
Thank you!
