Giorgio Morandi was one of the greatest artists in the history of Italy. He was the eldest of five children born into a middle-class family in Bologna, Italy. His early love of art upset his father, who wanted his son to work with him in his export business. Morandi attempted the business unsuccessfully in 1906.
After that, Morandi entered the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts in 1907. He continued his study with the support of his friends when his father suddenly passed away in 1908, forcing him to support his mother and younger sisters. During that time, he was introduced to Cubism and Futurism, which influenced his early work.
After he graduated from the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts in 1913, Morandi continued his study by traveling around Italy, especially to the Venice Biennale. Those tours would finally prove important, as much of Morandi’s exposure (接触) to painters came from published art works on the journey. He was particularly interested in the work of Impressionists like Claude Monet, as well as following greats such as Georges Seurat and Paul Cézanne.
After Morandi finished his traveling, he returned home and lived with his family. For many years, Morandi kept a peaceful daily routine. And he did most of his work in his workshop, a small room in a flat he shared with his mother and sisters.
Life wasn’t easy for him at first, but he quickly established himself as an important modern artist. His mastery of a skill of color, light and arrangement began to gain notice, shining in the face of present painting in the manner of abstraction (抽象). And he was named “one of the greatest painters living” by Roberto Longhi in 1934.
24. Why did Morandi’s early love of art worry his father
A. It took Morandi too much time.
B. His father didn’t have money to support Morandi.
C. His father wanted Morandi to follow in his footsteps.
D. There were no suitable art teachers for Morandi.
25. What did Morandi do in 1913
A. He tried his father’s business. B. He started his university life.
C. He traveled with his father. D. He finished his study in school.
26. What played a leading role in shaping Morandi as a successful modern artist
A. His love for his family. B. His tours around Italy.
C. His middle-class background. D. His exposure to his father’s business.
27. How does the author mainly develop the text
A. By asking questions. B. By providing examples.
C. By following time order. D. By making a comparison.

Every school has students who stand out for their abilities and their eagerness (渴望) to learn. In Mexico, a school created a program to work with them. In 2019. both teachers Lotta Andersson and John Rennie got the idea to provide learning opportunities for students with a desire for knowledge. They are English coordinators (协调员) in the school. “We want to have a program to encourage students who really have the abilities and the interests to learn more and continue accepting challenges,” Andersson said during a recent interview.
Students in the program, which was called Learning Challenges, met with the teachers about once a month. Andersson and Rennie would help us choose research topics. We then worked with the teachers to find books, interview subjects and Internet sources, While in Learning Challenges, I gave statements on European culture and the fashion industry.
When asked what skills students had formed in the program, which ended in June 2020 because of the limits of a common disease. Andersson said, “They had learned to ask questions, be more open-minded and see things from different angles (角度). Also, they mastered the skills-reflecting more, acting actively, and learning not to put limits on themselves.”
A student, Yihane Abed, carried out research on the sun, the moon, stars, planets, etc, while in Learning Challenges. “The skills I developed were teamwork and the ways to do research and give a good presentation,” she said.
Andersson and Rennie continue to help students pursue their love of learning. “The program doesn’t exist formally, but as an important part of the culture at school, it is still needed,” Andersson said. “There is much more difference, not only for students who need extra help, but also for those who are higher achievers.”

For years, divers (潜水员) have reported unusual attacks from sea snakes. This behaviour confused scientists because land snakes usually stay away from humans and do not attack them. Why would their sea cousins be any different Now, a recent study says that sea snakes may not be trying to attack humans at all.
“Attacks on divers by sea snakes are mostly due to males searching for females, and getting confused,” the study author Professor Rick Shine said. “Sea snakes swim directly towards divers, sometimes wrapping around the diver’s arms or legs and biting. Sea snakes can grow to be more than six feet long. This makes divers very afraid when they confront these sea snakes. The sea snakes do not bite very often; however, their approaches (靠近) are very common and dangerous because a diver might panic (恐慌).”
To understand why sea snakes keep approaching divers, the researchers used old data from nearly 30 years ago. As a university student, the study author Tim Lynch made a total of 188 dives in the Great Barrier Reef between 1994 and 1995. During these dives, which lasted about 30 minutes, he recorded how many sea snakes approached him and what happened.
Most of the approaches happened during the snakes’ mating season, and males were more likely to approach during this time. So the researchers concluded that the attacks were because of “mistaken identity”. This means a male sea snake mistakes the diver for a female sea snake.
The explanation provided by Lynch and Shine answers the question of what divers should do if they find a sea snake quickly swimming their way. “Stay calm, and let the snake check you out,” Shine advises. It will soon realise that you’re not a female snake. Then it will swim away.
32. What can we learn about sea snakes from the text
A. They often attack divers approaching them.
B. They are actually not as dangerous as they look.
C. They prefer to avoid divers rather than attack them.
D. They will keep biting when meeting a diver.
33. What does the underlined word “confront” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Avoid. B. Attack. C. Protect. D. Face.
34. What does Shine advise a diver to do when a sea snake approaches
A. To stay calm till the sea snake leaves.
B. To ask other nearby divers for help.
C. To swim away as quickly as possible.
D. To fight against the sea snake before it attacks.
35. Why do sea snakes keep approaching divers according to the research
A. They see divers as a threat.
B. They want to kill divers for food.
C. They are looking for new homes.
D. They mistake divers for possible mates.

Today was my first day of high school. I was excited but a little bit worried. I woke up early and rushed out of the door in my eagerness to know my new school. The campus was still quiet when I arrived, so I decided to explore a bit. It was so big that I was afraid I might get lost. I didn’t know anyone, and I felt lonely.
I know that teenagers should wear the right clothes to be popular. But I’m not sure which are the right clothes and which are the wrong clothes. I saw a girl in the hall who looked very cool, and she was talking to a group of kids. She was wearing the same jeans as I was, which made me feel good about my clothes. I felt more confident. I looked at my timetable to see what my first class was.
My first class was math. I really like math. I went into the classroom and sat down at a desk in the second row right near the door. And the girl named Pat sitting behind me was the very girl I had met earlier, who left a deep impression on me. She was very friendly. She was also very forgetful. She forgot her pen, so she borrowed mine. She forgot her paper, so I gave her a sheet of paper. The one thing she didn’t forget was my name. We felt like friends already!
I left math class and began looking for the science classroom, Room 211. I looked and looked, but I couldn’t find the stairs. I was worried that I would be late for class. It would be terrible to be late for my first science class because we all heard that our science teacher Mr. Robert was a serious teacher. I hurried down the hall and finally saw the stairs. I ran quickly up the stairs. Suddenly, I tripped (绊倒) and my papers fell from my hands and all of my papers went flying. I was so embarrassed and became extremely anxious.

第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】one possible version:
Just then, Pat came up the stairs with two of her friends. Seeing my clumsy attempt to collect my scattered papers on the ground, they instantly rushed over and joined me without any hesitation. All my items were gathered within minutes. With their sincere kindness and timely help, I felt relaxed and delighted. Having expressed my thanks to them, we headed happily for Room 211 together. However, the dead silence outside of the classroom made us aware that we were late for class.
Entering the classroom, I found everyone in total silence and an embarrassing atmosphere around us. It was Mr Robert’s stern gaze that made everyone too nervous to speak. “Sorry, Mr. Robert! It is my fault to cause us to be late!” I tried to explain with my heart pounding wildly. To our surprise, he just smiled and began his class! With what seemed seconds going by, there went the bell. I had to admit I was completely absorbed in his class. What an unforgettable experience, and I bet my life here will be a thrilling and precious adventure.
