Dear Editor,
I am a 14-year-old boy from Shanghai. My parents are both doctors. They work very hard, especially during the flu season. Last winter, many people got sick. My parents often had to work double shifts. Sometimes they left home before I woke up and came back after I went to bed. I felt very lonely.

The next morning, my mother called me. Her voice sounded tired. She said, “I’m sorry I couldn’t be there with you, my dear. But there are many sick children here who also need me.” I suddenly understood. My parents were not only helping me but also helping many other families. I felt proud of them.
Now, I try to help more at home. I cook simple meals and clean my room. I also study hard so that they do not need to worry about me. I want to become a volunteer at the hospital when I grow up, just like them.

Our World: Animal Heroes
A Dog Named Hope
In a small village in Gansu Province, there lives a dog named Hope. Hope is not a pet. He is a working dog trained to find people after earthquakes. Last year, a strong earthquake hit a town near Hope’s training center. Many buildings fell down, and people were trapped under the rubble. Hope and his trainer, Mr. Wang, arrived at the disaster area within two hours.
The rescue team was worried because there was little time left. Hope started working immediately. He ran across the broken bricks and stopped suddenly near a fallen wall. He barked loudly and scratched the ground. The rescue workers began to dig. Twenty minutes later, they found a young girl. She was weak but alive. Hope did not stop there. Over the next 48 hours, he helped locate five more trapped people.
Hope was not born a hero. He started training when he was only six months old. For two years, he learned to find hidden people, to walk on unstable ground, and to stay calm in noisy environments. Mr. Wang said, “Hope works not for rewards but because he loves to search. It is his nature.”
Now, Hope has retired because of his age. He lives with Mr. Wang’s family. Children in the village often come to play with him. They call him “Hero Dog.” Hope’s story reminds us that bravery comes in many forms.

Dear teachers and classmates,
Good morning. It’s my great honor to deliver a speech here. As teenagers, we ought to develop essential core abilities to meet future challenges.
In my opinion, time management is the most important ability. It helps us balance study and rest effectively. Without it, we may feel stressed and fail exams easily. To improve it, we can make detailed plans every day. Also, we should finish tasks on time without delay. This ability makes us efficient and confident. I believe mastering time leads to success. Let’s take small steps and act now!
Thank you for listening!
