A
The beauty of the overnight train lies in the combination of practicality and romance. You get the amazing countryside views while also benefiting from a full night’s rest. If you want an experience you’ll remember forever, these four overnight train routes deliver.
Helsinki to Rovaniemi on the Santa Claus Express
Yes, it’s called the Santa Claus Express. We think that’s pretty classic.
This Finnish night train heads north into Lapland, and depending on the season, you’ll either wake up to endless snowy forests or summer light. Some carriages even have private showers, which feels borderline luxurious by European sleeper standards.
As a bonus, in winter, you’re entering Northern Lights territory!
London to Fort William on the Caledonian Sleeper
If you’re going to do a sleeper train in the UK, this is the one. You leave London late at night and wake up in the Scottish Highlands. The stretch into Fort William feels cinematic in the best way. The carriages range from simple bunks (铺位) to en-suite doubles. Granted, it’s not cheap. But waking up under Ben Nevis could certainly be worth it.
Stockholm to Narvik (Arctic Circle route)
This ride is quite lengthy, but it’s well worth it to wake up above the Arctic Circle, where the striking Northern Lights dance across the sky on clear winter nights. The final stretch into Narvik cuts through rough mountains before dropping toward Norwegian fjords (峡湾). It feels remote in a way that’s hard to copy anywhere else in Europe.
Rome to Sicily on Trenitalia’s Intercity Notte
If you’re searching for a unique experience, you’ve certainly found it. The train literally boards a ferry (轮渡) to cross the Strait of Messina. Your carriage gets rolled onto a boat in the middle of the night. You can stay in your carriage or step out on deck and feel the sea air!
Then you wake up in Sicily, with southern Italian sunlight pouring through the window. It’s a bit chaotic, but absolutely unforgettable.
21. Which train runs from England to Scotland
A.Arctic Circle route. B.The Caledonian Sleeper.
C.Trenitalia’s Intercity Notte. D.The Santa Claus Express.
22. Which route involves a ship carrying
A.Rome to Sicily. B.Helsinki to Rovaniemi.
C.Stockholm to Narvik. D.London to Fort William.
23. What do the Arctic Circle route and the Santa Claus Express both have to offer
A.Views of Northern Lights. B.A journey through fjords.
C.Luxurious private showers. D.Various classes of carriages.
B
From Stockholm to Sydney, the electric car sliding silently by is increasingly likely to be Chinese. Mixue, a seller of ice-cream and cold drinks, has replaced McDonald’s as the world’s largest fast-food chain. Chagee, a chain of tea shops, will have had at least 1,300 stores outside China by the end of 2027. And Pop Mart, a Chinese toy maker, has created a thrill worthy of Disney around its dolls Labubu.
Western shoppers have bought goods made in China for decades. But these were largely made for, and designed by, foreign firms. New firms are now overturning the old assumption. Many happily advertise their roots and are accumulating their own valuable intellectual property. The logo of Chagee shows a Peking Opera singer in full headdress. “Black Myth: Wukong”, one of the most successful video games ever, features the Monkey King from Journey to the West.
The rise of Chinese consumer brands is good for shoppers everywhere: they now have a wider range of innovative products to choose from. Investors, too, should welcome the sight of oddly fascinating dolls and the taste of red-bean ice-cream. Investing in Chinese technology companies has long been hard. But handbags and hot drinks are harmless.
Western firms will have to wake up and smell the bubble tea. Within China, the advantage that foreign brands enjoy simply for being foreign is declining. In the future they will need to try harder to understand Chinese customers’ particular tastes. Some may even do deals with inventive Chinese partners, to gain insight and inspiration. These are still early days for Chinese brands’ attempt into global markets. But Chinese carmakers are already forcing Western rivals to reconsider their strategies. And competition from China may eventually push Disney, Mattel and other Western mega-brands to new heights of creativity. Chinese brands’ westward journey, like the Monkey King’s, could bring substantial rewards.
24. How does the author introduce the topic in the first paragraph
A.By listing examples. B.By defining a concept.
C.By making contrasts. D.By presenting statistics.
25. What does the old assumption mentioned in Paragraph 2 refer to
A.Chinese brands demonstrating cultural identity.
B.Chinese products lacking innovation and cultural value.
C.China favoring brands with profitable intellectual property.
D.China producing low-quality goods for Western consumers.
26. What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A.Western companies are resting on their past achievements.
B.Chinese firms dominate the market of the bubble tea.
C.Westerners’ effortless marketing in China is over.
D.Chinese carmakers are cornering Western rivals.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Evolution of the International Market B.China Exceeding the West in Innovation
C.Chinese Brands Rising across the World D.Rivalry between Chinese and Westerners
C
Throwing your plastic bottles in the recycling bin may ease your guilt about your climate impact. But recycling plastic will not address the plastic pollution crisis — and it’s time we stop pretending as such. We’ve been misled to believe that sea turtles would stop choking on plastic waste if it’s faithfully stuck into the recycling bin.
The cheat was intentional. Powerful fossil (化石) fuel and chemical companies knew in the 1970s plastic recycling would never handle the plastic waste. Consumers and policymakers then were also realizing the severe environmental consequences to single-use throwaway plastics. Feeling the heat, companies banded together to plant positive messaging about plastic recycling across society, to prevent restrictions on their products.
Plastic wasn’t designed to be recycled. Roughly 16,000 chemicals can be found in plastic, many of them purposefully added for characteristics like flexibility, strength, color, and resistance to sunlight. Those chemical combinations vary considerably, and these different types must all be sorted and recycled separately. What’s more, plastic loses its functionality when recycled. A plastic bottle can only be recycled into another one two or three times before becoming something like carpeting or clothing, which typically ends up in a landfill polluting the air, water and soil. Thus, recycling doesn’t sustainably prevent plastic waste from the environment — it just delays it.
In less than a century, plastic has reached every corner of the globe, even the most unexpected places: arctic sea ice, remote mountains, rain and even throughout our bodies. Micro plastics have been found in nearly every human organ system. A study published earlier this year in The Lancet found plastic is responsible for at least $1.5 trillion in health-related damages worldwide a year.
So what can we do First, companies need to reduce plastic production and shift to reusable and refillable systems. If reducing packaging or using reusable packaging is not possible, companies should at least shift to paper, cardboard, glass, or metal. These can be made from recycled materials and actually get recycled again. Companies are not going to do this on their own, which is why policymakers need to require them to do so. It’s the only way to guarantee people are prioritized over plastic.
28. Why was plastic recycling actually advocated in the first place
A.To restrict the cost of companies involved.
B.To sustain plastic production and its market.
C.To popularize single-use throwaway plastics.
D.To reduce plastic waste on a substantial scale.
29. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The functionality of recycled plastic.
B.The chemicals plastic products contain.
C.The process of plastic design and production.
D.The reasons why plastic recycling is ineffective.
30. What does the author think of the presence of plastic
A.Unavoidable. B.Favorable. C.Confusing. D.Alarming.
31. How can people’s priority over plastic be ensured according to the author
A.By reusable and refillable systems. B.By flexibility of relevant policies.
C.By sound governance and regulation. D.By alternative reusable packaging.
D
To many teens, nothing sounds worse than hanging out with their parents. But what if family bonds during adolescence (青春期) meant a better social life down the line A study published in JAMA Pediatrics found that a close, supportive relationship with parents during middle and high school was associated with a variety of positive social indicators up to two decades later.
Historically, social development research has relied on participants recalling their childhoods, a method which is subject to the limitations of memory. Instead, Dr. Robert C. Whitaker, an author of the new study and a professor of Columbia University, decided to take the traditional approach upside down. He and his colleagues used data following a nationally representative sample of teens from as early as seventh grade into their 30s and 40s.
In their early years, the participants rated how much their family members understood them, how much fun they had together, and whether they felt cared for and wanted, among other indicators. Dr. Whitaker and his colleagues averaged each of the 7,018 participants’ various answers into individual “family connection scores”, then divided the participants into quartiles (四分位数). When the adolescents became adults, they were asked about the structure, function and quality of various social connections.
Dr. Whitaker’s team found that adolescents in the highest group of family connection scores had a prevalence of high social connection in adulthood that was 23.4 percentage points greater than that of those in the lowest group. Only 16.1 percent of adolescents in the lowest group of family connection ended up with high social connection in adulthood.
While the research did not examine the mechanisms at play, experts believe that parents who set a healthy relational tone were modeling skills and habits that their children could adopt and apply later on. The authors wrote that pediatricians (儿科医生) could help by supporting parents who did not grow up with such relationships. By helping parents feel safe and seen even during uncertain times, they concluded, the parents could in turn offer that stability to their children.
32. What has the research revealed
A.Family ties in teens shape socialization.
B.Parent-child bonds emerge in adulthood.
C.Parent care matters most in adolescence.
D.Teenagers tend to resist parental company.
33. What can we learn about the research method adopted
A.It groups the participants by age. B.It takes a developmental perspective.
C.It can be affected by memory faults. D.It involves a limited range of subjects.
34. What does the underlined word “prevalence” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Contradiction. B.Downside. C.Proportion. D.Contribution.
35. What do the authors of the study suggest pediatricians do
A.Explore the relational mechanisms. B.Correct parents’ relational perception.
C.Model teens’ socialization on parents. D.Enhance parents’ security and visibility.

In the fast-paced 2026 workplace, multitasking has become a vital skill for all professionals. With remote and hybrid work widely popular, people need to handle various duties at the same time to improve overall productivity. However, human brains cannot truly perform several tasks at once. 36 , which may cause low efficiency and more mistakes. Therefore, it is necessary to master practical methods to manage multiple tasks wisely.

40
Many people push themselves to work non-stop to finish more tasks, which finally leads to burnout. Knowing your limits is essential for long-term career development. Besides, short and regular breaks can refresh your mind. Simple skills like the Pomodoro technique can help you balance work and rest, keeping your performance steady all day long.

Mia finished playing a Christmas carol (颂歌) and looked up at her piano teacher.
“You played that very well,” Ms. Jackson said. “How would you like to join some of the other students and play carols at the mall this Saturday afternoon ”
“I can’t,” Mia said quickly. “My family is volunteering at the community food bank that afternoon. It’s our tradition every Christmas.”
Ms. Jackson smiled. “Lots of kids are shy, but the best way to overcome your fear of playing in public is by actually doing what scares you. Remember, our recital is right after Christmas. Playing at the mall would be great practice.”
“I’m sorry. I really can’t be there,” Mia went on.
Mia didn’t add that she was relieved to have an excuse. The thought of playing piano with so many people around made her stomach clench into a knot.
On Saturday morning, as Mia helped Mom and Dad prepare food baskets, she thought about her friends playing at the mall. She pictured hundreds of shoppers milling around. Some would sit on benches and watch. I’m so glad I won’t be there, she thought.
When Mia and her parents finished at the food bank, they decided to visit Great-Grandma at her retirement community nearby.
They greeted Great-Grandma with hugs and Christmas wishes. Mrs. Carmen, the activities director, showed a short holiday movie. Then they played games, and the residents opened their gifts.
“We usually end by singing Christmas carols,” Mrs. Carmen said. “But our piano player wasn’t able to make it today.”
“Mia plays the piano,” Great-Grandma announced, smiling proudly.
“Wonderful,” Mrs. Carmen said. “Mia, would you like to play while we sing ”
Mia looked around the room. Everyone was sitting in a big circle facing the piano. This would be worse than the mall. At least there, people would be distracted by shopping.

第二节 读后续写(参考范文)
Mia was about to refuse when she saw the eager smiles on all the faces. She hesitated for a second and finally nodded slowly. She walked to the piano nervously, her hands trembling slightly. Taking a deep breath, she placed her fingers on the keys and began to play. The sweet melody of Christmas carols filled the room. Listening to the warm singing around her, Mia gradually calmed down. She even began to enjoy the moment. When the music ended, warm applause burst out, which filled her heart with great pride.
The following Monday, Mia approached Ms. Jackson with a determined look. She told her teacher that she wanted to join the performance at the mall. She realized that fear would never disappear if she always avoided it. Instead, facing it bravely was the best way to beat it. Ms. Jackson smiled warmly and praised her courage. From then on, Mia became more confident and no longer feared playing the piano in public.
