“Please calm down and sit,” said Mr. Johnson, “I’m glad everyone’s here for the final reading test of the year.” When everyone cried, Mr. Johnson laughed, saying it was just a joke. Then he reminded us that we still had a job to do. “You need to clean out your desks and put all your things into your backpacks.” he added gently.
As we began our task, Mr. Johnson turned on the CD player. The lively music made the room feel like a party. Some of us started singing along with the music, others were dancing around their desks while they were cleaning them out. Even Mr. Johnson showed us a few dance steps, making everyone laugh heartily. After we finished cleaning, someone asked, “When is break time ” Mr. Johnson took out some balls and started playing with them. Suddenly, he let the balls drop and said, “Break time starts ... now!”
Just as we were about to rush out, our headmaster, Mrs. Miller, appeared at the door. “Mr. Johnson!” she cried out. A moment of silence fell over the room as we thought, “Mr. Johnson might be in trouble.” However, to our surprise, Mrs. Miller couldn’t help but laugh at the sight and left us to enjoy our break.

Cyclocross is cross-country bicycle racing. Racers spend only part of a race on their bikes because only part of the two-mile race is smooth. Other parts of the race have the challenge of obstacles (障碍). When racers reach them, they can ride over them, or pick up their bikes and run.
To be a top racer, you must dismount without slowing down at all. To do this, swing your right leg over the bike seat. At the same time, move the bike away from your body. This makes room for your right foot to hit the ground next to your left foot. As your right foot nears the ground, take your left foot away from the bike. Put both feet on the ground and start running!
As soon as you are running, you have to decide what to do with your bike. You may shoulder it or lift it. It’s important to practice both skills. Sometimes you need to run fast and jump over some obstacles. As your feet hit the ground, you reach down and catch the bottom of your bike. Lift up carefully and keep the bike on your right shoulder while you run. Sometimes you may lift your bike. You catch the top of your bike. Then you lift the bike high enough to get over the obstacles and carefully put the bike on the ground.
After you have carried your bike across an obstacle, you will need to remount. As soon as your bike is on the ground, push off with your left leg, swing your right leg over the bike seat, and move into riding position. Remounting can be the hardest skill of cyclocross. You can learn by watching someone who remounts well.
Cyclocross is a great way to stay active and have fun. However, it can be dangerous. Make sure that you are well prepared. Then, you will just need to go!

Lots of wild animals often do babysitting duty. Young female elephants who haven’t had babies yet like to help guide and take care of baby elephants.
Recently, a team of researchers at the Southwest Forestry University in China noticed that during the breeding (繁殖) season, black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys passed around their babies a lot. The monkeys would take turns to carry or even feed the newborns.
This behaviour reminded the team of the way humans babysit for each other. So they decided to watch the monkeys more closely. They followed the group for six months and recorded more than 400 scenes in which a female monkey interacted (互动) with a mother and newborn or gently pulled them closer.
Once the newborns had grown up a bit, the mothers would allow other females to take care of them. They made their decision according to who has the most parenting experience. After a more experienced monkey had given up her babysitting duty, the younger females with less experience would still be allowed to look after the babies.
Cui Chunyan, one of the researchers in the study, mentioned that this helps the younger females to learn more about parenting to prepare them for having their own babies in the future. She also said that more research needs to be done to find out if mothers make their choices based on the social status of other monkeys or on whether they are related to each other.
12.What have the researchers noticed in the study
A.Monkeys babysit others’ babies. B.Monkeys are too busy to babysit.

D.They have completely understood monkeys’ babysitting choices.
15.What can we find out from the study of monkeys’ babysitting choices

例文
Dear Tom,
I’m glad to hear from you. I prefer reading paper books rather than online reading.
Firstly, paper books are gentle to our eyes. Long-time online reading may hurt eyesight easily. Besides, reading paper books helps us focus better. We won’t be disturbed by pop-up messages or other online news. What’s more, we can take notes and mark useful parts freely on books, which improves our reading efficiency.
Though online reading is convenient, paper books bring us a peaceful and warm reading feeling. I hope you can also enjoy the fun of reading real books.
Yours,
Li Hua
