A Special Community Book Corner
In our neighborhood, there is a small book corner built by volunteers last spring. It sits at the
gate of the community park, with wooden shelves full of different kinds of books. No one works
here for money; all people give their free time to keep it running.
Mrs. Li, a retired teacher in her sixties, is the main manager. She sorts books every morning
and keeps a simple borrow notebook. People can take one book home for free and bring it back
within two weeks. If someone loves a book too much, they can buy it at a very low price, and the
money will be used to buy new storybooks for little kids.
At first, only a few old people came to read newspapers and history books. Soon, parents
began to bring their children after school. Kids love cartoon stories and science picture books.
第 2 页 共 10 页
Middle school students often borrow novels and English exercise books. Some college students
nearby even send boxes of their used textbooks here during vacation.
Last month, the book corner held a sharing party. Readers sat together to talk about their
favorite stories. A high school student shared how biographies encouraged him to face exam
pressure. An old grandpa told stories from his old history books to a group of primary kids.
The volunteers say the book corner is more than a place to read. It connects neighbors who
hardly talked before. Strangers become book-sharing friends. Now more people offer help: some
paint the shelves, others bring chairs and drinking water. Small warm changes make the whole
community full of literary warmth.
21. Who mainly looks after the book corner
A. College students B. Mrs. Li C. Young parents D. Park workers
22. How long can people keep a borrowed book
A. One week B. Two weeks C. One month D. One season
23. What will the money from sold books be used for
A. Pay workers B. Fix the park C. Buy kids’ storybooks D. Build new shelves
24. What activity did the book corner hold last month
A. A book selling fair B. A reading sharing party
C. A volunteer training class D. A writing competition
25. What is the biggest meaning of the book corner
A. It sells cheap books B. It helps students finish homework
C. It shortens the distance between neighbors D. It offers free drinks for readers

How to Develop Healthy Morning Habits
Many teenagers stay up late and struggle to get up early for school. A good morning routine
can improve study efficiency and physical health. Here are practical advice from health experts.
First, never hit the snooze button again and again. Extra ten minutes of broken sleep cannot
make you energetic; instead, it makes your brain lazier. Set one alarm and force yourself to stand up
right when it rings. Open the window at once to let fresh air and sunlight in—natural light tells your
body it’s time to wake up fully.
Second, drink a glass of warm water first thing. After eight hours of sleep, your body is short
of water. Warm water speeds up blood circulation and wakes up your stomach. Avoid sweet drinks
like cola or fruit syrup in the early morning; they bring quick energy but lead to tiredness soon. A
small cup of plain milk is a great choice for breakfast protein.
第 3 页 共 10 页
Third, spend 10 minutes on light exercise. You do not need hard running. Stretching, slow
jumping jacks or a short walk downstairs all work. Light movement relaxes stiff muscles and lifts
your mood for classes. Many top students say short morning exercise helps them listen more
carefully in math and English lessons.
Fourth, plan your tasks for the day within five minutes. Write down two or three most
important school tasks, such as finishing a physics exercise or reciting English words. Clear goals
stop you from wasting time on unimportant things after breakfast.
Last but not least, put away your phone for the first 30 minutes of the morning. Messages and
short videos easily take your attention away. Save mobile phone time for the break after morning
self-study.
26. What will happen if you press snooze many times
A. You will feel full of energy B. Your brain will become lazy
C. You will sleep much longer D. Your body will get strong
27. What does the writer advise people to drink first in the morning
A. Warm water B. Cola C. Sweet juice D. Hot coffee
28. How long does the writer suggest morning light exercise last
A. Five minutes B. Ten minutes C. Twenty minutes D. Thirty minutes
29. Why should we plan daily tasks in the morning
A. To have more breakfast time B. To finish exercise faster
C. To avoid wasting time D. To play with phones later
30. Which is the best title for the passage
A. Ways to sleep better at night B. Advice for healthy morning habits
C. How to get high scores at school D. Best drinks for teenage students

The Story of Bamboo Paper Art
Bamboo paper cutting is a traditional folk craft in southern Henan, with a history of over 300
years. Unlike common red paper cuttings, artists here use thin bamboo slices as materials. It is
harder to make but more lasting than paper works.
The whole making process has six strict steps. First, pick young and straight bamboo in early
summer. Old bamboo is too hard and easy to crack. Second, boil bamboo slices in special plant
water for two hours to soften and remove bitter juice. Third, peel off thick outer skin and cut the
bamboo into thin slices as wide as a finger. Fourth, flatten slices under heavy stones for three days
to keep them smooth and straight.
第 4 页 共 10 页
The most difficult step is cutting patterns. Artists hold tiny sharp knives and carve flowers,
animals, or local life scenes little by little. One small piece of bamboo art may take three to five
days to finish. The last step is painting light natural colors and covering a thin protective oil layer to
stop water damage.
Old craftsman Mr. Wang has made bamboo paper art for forty years. When he was young, few
young people wanted to learn this slow craft—factory toys and plastic decorations were popular.
Fifteen years ago, almost no kids visited his small workshop.
Luckily, local culture center started protection work. Schools invite Mr. Wang to give
after-school art lessons. Short videos of his works spread online, and tourists come to buy
handmade bamboo gifts. Now several middle school students learn carving every weekend. Mr.
Wang says he finally sees the old craft pass down to the young generation.
Bamboo art carries local farming culture and people’s love for simple beautiful life. It is not
only a handwork but also a treasure of central plains culture. 31. How long has southern Henan bamboo paper art existed
A. More than 300 years B. About 150 yearsC. Less than 100 years D. Nearly 500 years
32. Why do workers boil bamboo slices
A. To paint colors easily B. To soften and take away bitter juice
C. To make bamboo thicker D. To cut bamboo into small pieces
33. Which step takes the most patience and time
A. Picking bamboo B. Flattening slicesC. Carving patterns D. Covering protective oil
34. What was the situation of the craft fifteen years ago A. Many students studied it B. It sold very well to tourists
C. Young people showed little interest D. Culture centers gave much money
35. What can we learn about bamboo paper art
A. It uses red paper as main material
B. Finished works break easily when meeting water
C. It reflects local farming and simple life beauty
D. Factory plastic works are better than bamboo art
D
Online Group Study: Good or Bad
Nowadays many junior high students join online group study rooms on apps. They turn on
cameras, study together with classmates or strangers at fixed time. Opinions from students, parents
and teachers are quite different.
第 5 页 共 10 页
Li Jia, Grade Nine student, joins an English group every evening. She says group study pushes
her to stop playing games. When she sees partners reading aloud or doing exercises seriously, she
feels ashamed to be lazy. Members check each other’s homework and share useful memory skills
for words. Her English exam scores have risen fifteen points in two months.
Her mother Mrs. Li worries a lot. She finds Li Jia sometimes chats with group members
instead of studying. Some students send funny pictures or short videos to relax, wasting 20–30
minutes every night. Also, long screen time hurts teenagers’ eyesight; Li Jia’s myopia degree gets
higher recently.
Math teacher Mr. Zhang points out two big problems of online group study. First, weak
students dare not ask questions in front of many people, so they still cannot solve difficult problems
in time. Second, some groups have no adult supervision; students copy answers from each other
quickly before teachers check homework.
However, education experts do not refuse online group study completely. They offer useful
rules: parents should stay nearby to watch screen time; groups need one responsible student as
manager to stop chatting; students must turn off game software before entering study rooms.
The key point is self-discipline. If students can control themselves well, online group study
becomes a helpful helper for review. Without self-control, it just turns into a place for chatting and
killing time.
36. What change happens to Li Jia’s English grades
A. Drop fifteen points B. Rise fifteen pointsC. No change at all D. Rise thirty points
37. What is Mrs. Li’s worry about online group study
A. Li Jia can’t understand English grammar
B. The group has too many strange students
C. Li Jia wastes time chatting and eyes get worse
D. Li Jia copies others’ math homework
38. Why do weak students get little help sometimes
A. They are afraid to ask questions publicly
B. No one in the group knows difficult problems
C. Teachers never join online study rooms D. Managers do not allow them to speak
39. Which rule do experts suggest
A. Students can open game apps during breaks
B. Parents keep close to supervise screen time
C. Copying answers is allowed for quick finish
第 6 页 共 10 页
D. Groups must have a teacher as manager
40. What is the main idea of the whole passage
A. Online group study has both advantages and disadvantages
B. Online study is much better than classroom study
C. Parents must stop children joining online groups
D. Self-discipline is useless for teenage learners
三、完形填空(15 小题,每题1 分,共15 分)
阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从各题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳
答案。
When I was fourteen, I was afraid of speaking in public. My voice shook and my face turned
red 41 I stood before crowds. My English teacher Ms. Wang noticed my problem.
One Monday morning, she told our class we would have an English story show in two weeks.
Everyone needed to 42 a short story and perform it on stage. My heart sank at once. I wanted to
make up an excuse to give up, 43 Ms. Wang called me to her office after class.
She did not push me hard. She just said softly, “I know you write nice stories in your notebook.
Why not show your words to others It’s okay to be nervous at first.” I nodded weakly. That night I
wrote a story about a little shy cat trying to make new friends. It was just like 44 .
For the next days, Ms. Wang spent ten minutes with me after school every day. She taught me
to take slow deep breaths when feeling 45 . She let me practice reading the story to her first, then
to three classmates, then to the whole group. Each time I finished, she gave me warm praise, even if
I made small mistakes.
The day of the show finally arrived. Waiting backstage, my hands were wet with sweat. When
my name was called, I walked slowly onto the 46 . I looked at Ms. Wang sitting in the front row;
she smiled and nodded at me. I took a deep breath and started my story.
Surprisingly, my voice did not shake much. I focused on the little cat in my story instead of
worrying about 47 watching me. When I finished, warm applause filled the classroom. Some
classmates clapped loudly and said my story was lovely.
After that day, I changed slowly. I joined the school English speech club later. I still feel a
little nervous before performances, 48 I never run away anymore. I learn that fear does not
disappear completely, but courage means moving forward 49 fear.
Ms. Wang’s small encouragement lighted up my teenage life. She did not fix my shyness in
one day, but she gave me steps to 50 myself little by little. Now I understand: no one becomes
brave overnight. Progress comes from tiny tries and kind support from people around us.
第 7 页 共 10 页
Last month I met Ms. Wang in the school hallway. I thanked her again for helping me four
years ago. She laughed and said, “You were brave enough to take the first 51 ; I just stood beside
you.”
This experience also teaches me how to treat my shy deskmate now. When he refuses to speak
in group discussions, I do not laugh at him. I invite him to share one simple sentence first, and give
him sincere 52 after he speaks. Small kindness can help others cross their own fear, just as Ms.
Wang helped me.
Life is full of stages we are afraid to step onto. We may need a push from a teacher, friend or
family member. But the most important power always comes from 53 —the decision to have a
try, even when every cell of your body wants to hide.
If you are also trapped by fear of showing yourself, do not wait until you feel totally ready.
Start with a 54 step, ask for help from someone you trust, and keep going. Every small try builds
stronger courage inside your heart. One day you will look back and wonder why you ever felt so 55
at the very beginning.
41. A. whenever B. unless C. though D. because
42. A. translate B. write C. copy D. forget
43. A. so B. or C. but D. and
44. A. him B. her C. you D. me
45. A. relaxed B. nervous C. excited D. bored
46. A. bridge B. road C. stage D. window
47. A. nobody B. someone C. everyone D. anyone
48. A. if B. but C. so D. until
49. A. with B. without C. against D. behind
50. A. believe B. change C. protect D. introduce
51. A. prize B. speech C. step D. story
52. A. blame B. praise C. silence D. trouble
53. A. ourselves B. teachers C. parents D. classmates
54. A. big B. fast C. small D. hard

After class, she didn’t blame me. Instead, she told me to practice reading to her every afternoon.
