In early January 2025, a huge fire broke out in Los Angeles, California. The strong Santa Ana wind made the fire spread very quickly. The fire hurt not only people’s houses but also the environment around them.
A lot of forests and grasslands were burned. Many trees turned black, and the green grass was gone. All those plants were important for animals. Without them, animals lost their homes and food. Squirrels (松鼠) that lived in tree holes had to run away. Deer that ate the grass had nothing to eat. Some small animals like mice and rabbits died in the fire.
The soil also got into big trouble. Plants usually help keep the soil in place. But after the fire, there were no plants. When it rained, the rain washed the soil away. In some hilly places, mudslides (泥石流) occurred. It broke roads and even destroyed some houses.
The air became dirty, too. The fire sent a lot of smoke and bad things into the air. People in the areas near the fire had to wear masks. If someone had trouble breathing, they were in even more danger.
All in all, the 2025 Los Angeles wildfire was a big blow for nature. It will take a very long time for everything to get back to normal. People need to think about how to prevent this kind of fire in the future.

Ed was a professional football player, but in 2017 he had an accident in a swimming pool. After that, he couldn’t move his body from the shoulders down.
Doctors told him that he’d probably never walk again, but Ed didn’t want to believe this. He had recently got engaged (订婚) to the woman who is now his wife and he said that she was the main reason he wanted to get better. He spent six days staring at his toes (脚趾) and trying to make them move—and, finally, he succeeded! This was the start of a long journey.
While in hospital, Ed met Paul, a man in his late thirties. Doctors had also told Paul he would never walk again, but Ed encouraged him not to give up and six months later, Paul told Ed he was walking with a stick.

Two years later, 31-year-old Ed climbed 8,848 meters, the height of the world’s highest mountain, by going up and down his parents’ stairs 2,783 times. When he finished, he told a news reporter he had loved it although it sometimes was “painful” and “boring”. He also raised 46,000 for charity.
Ed hopes his story can help people. That’s why he started his own charity, M2M, which aims to support “people facing challenges in life.”

Are you often angry What will you do when you’re very angry Some people may choose to let out their anger by shouting or doing some activities like running.

In short, if you’re feeling angry, consider taking a few deep breaths or doing a fun sport instead of shouting or running. These calming activities may help you reduce your anger.

Without movement, he was on his back. He could hear the sound of the sick wolf’s breath. It came closer, and he did not move. It was beside his ear. The dry tongue (舌头) moved across his face. His hands reached out.
The quiet waiting of the wolf was terrible. The man’s waiting was terrible, too. For half a day he did not move, fighting against sleep.
He waited for the thing that was to eat him. Sometimes the sea of sleep rose over him and he dreamed long dreams. But always, he waited for the noisy breath and the feel of the tongue.
