“After 30 years of teaching, I didn’t know what to do then,” Zhao says. “The Rubik’s Cube gave me a new start.” She learned about the game from her 8-year-old granddaughter’s free-time activities. Zhao was very interested, so she started to learn it. At first, she learned it very slowly. She watched the lessons online and spent over four years learning it by herself.
When watching Super Brain (《最强大脑》) on Jiangsu TV, Zhao fell in love with blindfolded cube-solving (盲眼解魔方). However, it’s difficult for people in their sixties to learn it. Zhao asked a Rubik’s Cube teacher for help. Although she ran into a lot of difficulties, she never gave up. Now she keeps the world’s fastest record for blindfolded cube-solving for people over age 60.
Many people think Zhao will stop to have a rest, but she wants to pass B1 level first. “You must have dreams and keep learning to make them come true through hard work,” she says.

How did you spend your last holiday Did you just stare (盯着) at a screen from morning till night Well, you are not alone. A new study shows that many Chinese people spend over five and a half hours online every day. That’s a lot of time scrolling (滚屏) and watching videos! But is this really helping us relax, or is it just making our brains (大脑) tired
First, let’s think about how we spend our time online. Most of us watch short videos instead of learning something new. This kind of low-value (低价值) activity doesn’t help us relax—it actually makes our thinking less clear. The “brain rot” describes what happens when we spend too much time on meaningless (无意义的) online things.
At the same time, using the Internet is like eating your favourite snacks: It’s hard to stop. Our phones are full of endless (无止境的) short videos, making them like personal fun factories. It’s easy and comfortable to sit and scroll for many hours. But this “easy fun” comes at a cost. The more time we spend on screens, the less we enjoy real life. We’re missing out on beautiful sunsets (落日), heartfelt thanks, and fun hobbies. When did our lives become so boring
Also, we’re forgetting how to relax in a meaningful way. Free time shouldn’t just be about scrolling and watching videos. Instead, it should be a chance to connect with the world. Nature doesn’t have Wi-Fi, but has fresh air, sunlight and bird songs. Spending time with friends in real life is much better than laughing alone at a short video on your screen.
26.How does the writer start the passage
A.By comparing facts. B.By asking questions.
C.By showing numbers. D.By giving an example.
27.What does “brain rot” probably mean in the text
A.The brain gets clear after scrolling online.
B.The brain can relax by watching short videos.
C.The brain gets strong after learning new things.
D.The brain becomes tired from too much online time.
28.Why does the writer compare the Internet to snacks
A.Because both are meaningless. B.Because both are a waste of time.
C.Because both are not easy to stop. D.Because both are bad for one’s health.
29.Which of the following is a good way to relax according to the passage
A.Watching meaningful videos on phones. B.Spending much time with friends online.
C.Going out and enjoying real life in nature. D.Staying at home and scrolling for many hours.
30.In which part of a newspaper can we probably read the passage
A.Health & Life. B.Business World.
C.Sports & Art. D.Science Study.
