Katharina is a young woman from America. When she discovered a Chinese social media (社交媒体) platform, she didn’t expect to start an international search for a long-lost friend. But that’s exactly what happened.
Katharina began using the platform on January 15 and posted a video, saying, “I need all users of this app to help me find him. Simon, I miss you. I miss our friendship.”
Katharina’s story began years ago in a private school in Iowa, a state in America. A Chinese exchange student named Simon joined her class in the seventh grade. The two quickly became close friends.
Chinese users of the platform soon came to Katharina’s aid. Like experienced detectives (侦探), they asked her for a photo of Simon. They really seemed ready to solve any problem. Word spread quickly after Katharina shared a photo of Simon — a very unclear one, though. Then, just 22 hours later, somemething unbelievable happened. Simon himself appeared in the comments section (评论区) of Katharina’s video! “It’s me, Simon,” he wrote. “I never dreamed that I would reconnect with my good friend from so many years ago. Thank you all on the platform for your help.”

In recent years, the environmental problems on Mount Qomolangma have become increasingly serious. More rubbish is left on the mountain, but its cleanup can be really difficult. And Mount Qomolangma is not good at cleaning itself.

Have you ever had such an experience You did some exercise the day before, and the next morning, even a small movement like sitting up in bed would cause muscle (肌肉) soreness. Now you want to exercise again, but you’re wondering: Can I still exercise when I’m so sore Well, there is no exact answer; it depends.
Experts explain that soreness isn’t always bad. It’s normal to feel sore when you train hard or challenge your muscles in new ways. It is known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS, 延迟性肌肉酸痛). It usually reaches the peak within 48 hours and goes away in 72 hours. It happens because hard or new exercises break down muscle tissue (组织). Then your body tries to repair it, which causes soreness. Don’t worry — this breakdown helps your muscles grow stronger during the repair process.
What you should pay attention to is just how sore you feel. Rick Richey, a sports medicine teacher, says, “If your soreness is mild (不严重的), it’s okay to exercise. You just need to go easier, like lifting lighter weights or running slower.”
However, if your soreness is more than a mild ache , take a break. “Your body is smart — it tells you to stop,” Richey says. What’s more, exercising with super-sore muscles isn’t helpful. Sore muscles are not able to produce as much force and usually get tired more quickly. Richey says serious soreness can prevent you from getting better, and it might even make you hurt yourself.
If you really want to exercise, work on the muscles that don’t ache. For example, if your arms ache, exercise your legs. “If you’re sore in one muscle, look for other parts of your body you can exercise,” Richey says.
27. Which graph (图表) can show the change about DOMS in 72 hours
A. B. C. D.
28. What do we know about DOMS
A. It is a kind of terrible illness. B. It makes your muscles weak forever.
C. It usually appears later after exercise. D. It happens only when you lift heavy things.
29. Why is it not helpful to exercise with super-sore muscles
A. Because they may never get better. B. Because they will get tired faster.
C. Because they can produce more force. D. Because they will influence your sleep.
30. What is the purpose of the passage
A. To explain what causes DOMS.
B. To discuss whether to exercise with sore muscles.
C. To tell readers how to repair sore muscles quickly.
D. To introduce different ways to challenge your muscles.
