I'm right. You're wrong!Isn't this how we argue?Seeing things from another person's point of view can be difficult. That's why we often argue with others. But what if there is a way to change this?Science has the answer to our problems!
Scientists have found that reflecting (反思) on your values (价值观) before arguing with someone makes you more open-minded and therefore less likely to get angry at the other person. "By doing this you increase your openness to being wrong." reported the Science website.
Paul Hanel,a sociologist (社会学家) at the University of Essex,U.K.,did this study. To test this,300 student volunteers were put into small groups to debate (辩论) some topics. Then half of the group were asked to think of their 19 most important values, such as freedom (自由) and acceptance (接纳) of those who are different. While the other half reflected on what drinks they like. Then they had debates again.
About 60 percent of the values group showed more openness than the drinks group. And 80 percent of the values group also showed more empathy (同理心).
So next time you want to argue with your friends or parents, try this simple method — reflecting on your values before arguing with them!

Have you ever unlocked (开锁) a shared bike?Have you ever ordered a meal online?Have you ever enjoyed watching the short-form videos on the Internet?Well,if no one had invented the cell phone, none of these would have been possible.
Luckily, someone did invent the cell phone. That person is Martin Cooper, and he did that 50 years ago,in 1973.
Cooper used to work for Motorola. In the 1970s,the company was competing with AT&T,a larger company,to make a cell phone system.Cooper didn't think Motorola's product was good enough. He didn't like AT&T's idea of a car phone (车载电话) either. The man had a new idea.He wanted to make it possible for people to talk on their phones anywhere.
It took Cooper and his team 90 days to design the world's first cell phone. The product was called Dyna TAC.People could talk on it for 25 minutes before its battery (电池) died. The phone's short battery life wasn't a big problem,Cooper once joked. Why?Well, the phone was too heavy (1,100 grams) to hold in hand for more than 25 minutes!
On 3 April,1973,Cooper made the world's first public cell phone call.He called Joel Engel,an AT&T manager.Cooper told Engel, "I'm calling you on a cell phone. It's a real, handheld cell phone." On the other end of the line, there was only silence.
Cell phones have changed a lot since that first call. They're much smaller and can do many more things.Cooper, now 94,is surprised at the progress.
But the man has also kept thinking about life in the future. "Keep learning all your life," he says, "or you'll lose the ability to learn — that would be terrible!"

A. To list the usages of cell phones.
B. To show the importance of cell phones.

B. Making a new car phone for Motorola.
C. Making a new phone for people to use anywhere.
36.Why did Engel keep silent when Cooper called him by using the cell phone? ______
A. Because Engel couldn't hear clearly on the line.
B. Because Cooper invented the cell phone before AT&T could.
C. Because Cooper didn't make the cell phone better.

Summer in Japan can be difficult.Temperatures often go above 30℃,and it's also very wet.Of course, many buildings have air conditioners (空调),but people do need to go outside sometimes. So how do Japanese people stay cool?
While some use traditional fans, these days it's common to see people carrying small hand-held electric fans to keep themselves cool. One company has even made work jackets with electric fans inside to keep the wearer cool.
And now another Japanese company has created an air conditioner that you can just wear around your waist (腰).The "WearCool",which was created by the company Gloture,is a belt that uses five small fans to blow cool air up the front and back of your body at up to 5 meters a second. The inside of the belt is also made of a material that absorbs (吸收) heat,so it's comfortable to wear. The belt can be adjusted (调节) for different waist sizes too.And while Gloture's pictures show models wearing the belt like a fashion accessory (配饰),you can actually wear it under your clothes.
WearCool comes with a powerful battery that lets it be used without stopping for up to 17 hours, the company says. And by using an app — which can be used in English or Japanese — you can adjust both the speed and the direction of the air flow.
WearCool is now available from Gloture's online store and costs around $230.But will it become as popular as those hand-held electric fans?

The city is sinking (下沉)
Have you ever read a piece of news that leaves you with a bad feeling? An article published (发表) by The Journal of Earth Science does so.It says____.
The researchers figured out the total weight of the buildings in the city. It's about 762 billion kilograms. This weight is too much for the city's soil to support. It has led to the city sinking at a rate of 1 to 2 millimetres every year, according to CNN.
While 1 to 2 millimetres may not sound like much, parts of New York City stand just 1 metre above sea level. If the sinking continues, the seawater will be rolling down its streets at high tide within tens of years.
Besides heavy buildings, climate change is another big reason for the city's sinking.According to The Guardian, climate change has caused the water around New York City to rise by 22 centimetres since 1950.By the end of the century, flooding from storms could be up to four times more often.
New York isn't the only city in the world that may soon be underwater. The World Economic Forum lists several cities that may disappear by the year 2100.They include Jakarta in Indonesia,Venice in Italy and Bangkok in Thailand.
