Summer is the best time for traveling. When summer comes, people are wondering where to spend the holiday. Here we will introduce you some of the best destinations.
Santorini
Santorini offers a unique landscape of beaches in colors of black, red, and white, a product of their volcanic sand. Imagine swimming in the warm mythic Aegean sea, with volcano and sunsets as a backdrop. Churches are built into caves and are astonishingly beautiful.
Prince Edward Island
Canada’s smallest province proves a big draw for those keen to escape modern life and all its stresses. Known for its brilliant red sand beaches, this is the perfect getaway. The food here is legendary with the local seafood topping most menus. Cycling and skiing, hunting and fishing — it’s all about the great outdoors here. With so much to do, it’s no surprise that visitors return to Prince Edward Island again and again.
Grand Cayman
Hit the shops in George Town, the capital, where all the best designer brands can be found. You’ll be spoilt (宠坏的) for choice although the crescent-shaped Seven Mile Beach is the most obvious destination. Head out on the water where coral reefs await. Great food, great weather and great tourist attractions for all — what’s not to like about gorgeous Grand Cayman
Lofoten Island
This is a wilderness unequalled in its beauty, where giant sea eagles soar. Visitors are drawn to the islands to experience the Northern Lights and Midnight Sun at close quarters and for those keen to get back to nature and escape the beaten track, there can be nowhere better. For a real treat we recommend kayaking between islands before finding a nice quiet restaurant and enjoying the fresh ingredients.

When I was young, I had no idea what I wanted to do. The choices were thin. It was assumed (假定的) that I’d go to college, and after that, I could be a mom. I could be a secretary. I could be a nurse or a teacher. If anyone asked, I said I wanted to be a writer. Even I knew that wasn’t a real job. Mostly, I didn’t think about it.
But just as I was coming of age, a world of possibility opened up. By the time I graduated from college with a science degree, I still didn’t know what I wanted to do. And one day, after seeing a notice in the paper, I remembered there was something I’d wanted to do once. It sounded fun, so I took the test to be a mail carrier. The new Postal Service was by law an inclusive group. If you got a good enough score, you were in.
It was an older woman conducting (执行) my fitness entry exam who was the first to disagree. This wasn’t a job for a girl, she said. And I shouldn’t take a man’s job away from him. He has a family to support. Despite that poor assumed man’s family, I became one of perhaps a dozen female carriers in the whole city of Portland, Oregon.
On the street, I was a novelty (新奇的人). I didn’t go a single day without hearing some friendly words: Well, I guess we can’t call you the mailman, can we We’ll have to call you the mail-woman! Those particular words somehow appeared naturally in thousands of minds at once. My existence received attention. It’s hard to imagine now.
Thirty-two years later I retired into a very different world. Being a retired mail carrier is even more fun than being a mail carrier. And finally, I get to be a writer. It’s still not really a job.
4. What can we know about the author when she was young

To raise money for restaurant workers who had to stay at home during COVID, two brothers, Aiden and Louis Ardine, decided to walk 3,200 miles across America to raise money.
Having just arrived on the sands of the Pacific Ocean, Aiden and Louis Ardine have now completed their five-month walk which started on the Asbury Park boardwalk in New Jersey. They hoped to raise $30,000 for some charities (慈善组织) that were helping restaurant workers waiting for lockdown (隔离) to end, but ended up making $70,000 — which they gave away to the COCO Fund and the Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation.
“This would not have been possible without the help of a huge community of people, whether people were donating or helping us guide our way across the United States.” said Aiden Ardine. “This was surely an adventure full of hope, and it proved people are born good and want to help their neighbors.”
Just like cross-country trips in this nation, their journey was characterized by amazing views, long roads, and helpful strangers: like a man who passed them in the extreme heat of summertime Iowa, before doubling back and giving them a cold Gatorade; or a Nevada campground manager who let them stay for free.
In Utah they had what the naturalist John Muir would have described as an “interview” with a black bear, when rounding a corner in the path, they found themselves within a few feet of it.
When they reached San Francisco, their supporters were waiting for them on the beach. Afterwards they flew home along with their mom who had been there to meet them. After their adventurous stay away from home, we can only imagine she was really feeling proud of her sons.
8. What did the two brothers collect money for
A.Helping to end the lockdown.
B.Completing their five-month walk.
C.Aiding restaurant workers stuck at home.
D.Setting up some charities.
9. Which word can best describe the two brothers

C.Honest.
D.Humorous.
10. What happened to the brothers in Utah
A.They were interviewed.
B.They visited a naturalist.
C.They were lost in the path.
D.They met with a bear.
11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text

B.A Proud Mother

A small study out of Skidmore College examined the advantages of morning vs. evening exercise for both women and men. Paul, professor for health at Skidmore, led the study.
“We had the groups divided into evening and morning groups,” he says. “We found women and men answered differently to different types of exercise depending on the time of the day, which surprised us.”
The study showed that for women who want to lower blood pressure (血压), the risk of heart disease or reduce fat, morning exercise works best. Those women hoping for upper body muscle (肌肉) gains or mood (心情) improvement should consider evening exercise. For the men, the findings were somewhat different: Evening exercise lowers blood pressure, the risk of heart disease, and feelings of tiredness. But similar to women, they burn more fat with morning exercise.
“For many people, the best time to exercise will depend on their chronotype,” says Heisz, author of Move the Body, Heal the Mind.
“Chronotype is your body’s natural habit to sleep at a certain time — it’s what decides whether you’re a night owl or an early bird. For the 25% of the population that considers themselves a night owl, getting both enough sleep and enough exercise can be difficult,” adds Heisz.
He continues, “Sleep — which provides your body the necessary time to recover (恢复) and make gains from exercise — should always be the first choice. When it comes to exercise, regardless of research on the advantages of certain exercises at particular times of the day, your results will not be good if it doesn’t allow enough time for sleep.”
12. What can women get by doing evening exercise according to the study
A.A good mood.
B.A lower blood pressure.
C.A smaller risk of heart disease.
D.A fat loss.
13. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 5
A.Tell the difference.
B.Do an experiment.
C.Explain a term.
D.Give an example.
14. What does Heisz think is important to achieve good results of exercise
A.Low-fat food.
B.Plenty of water.
C.Lots of exercise.
D.Enough sleep.
15. What is the best title for the text
A.Why Fitness Plan Being Important
B.How to Change Your Exercise Time
C.The Best Time of a Day to Exercise
D.A Night Owl or An Early Bird

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One particularly cold Saturday in January, I was supposed to take our dog out for a walk, but it was so cold that I didn’t want to go outside. Instead, I just opened the door and let the dog out by himself. I kept an eye on him to make sure he would come back inside.
However, another neighborhood dog quickly ran past our house, and our dog sped after to catch him. I hurriedly went to grab my coat so I could follow my dog, and then I rushed outside. Unfortunately, I was already too late, and my dog was nowhere in sight. I walked a few blocks, but I was unable to find him.
Depressed, I returned home. My mother was standing at the door waiting, and she asked me what had happened. “I know I was supposed to walk our dog,” I admitted, “but I thought he would be able to go outside and come back by himself. Now he’s gone and I can’t find him anywhere.”
My mother was very angry with me; she said I should have been more responsible. She decided to help by making some signs. The signs read, “Lost: A big black dog. Please call us right away” and she printed our phone number on the bottom. “Okay, Darrell,” she said, as she handed over those signs, “now go post these on all the street posts.”
My sister and I grabbed the signs and we posted them along our street as well as along the surrounding streets. The whole time, I was incredibly sad and worried about our dog. All I could think about was how cold it was and how cold our dog must be. My sister wanted to go home, so I told her I’d walk her home, but then keep looking for the dog myself.

第二节 参考范文(读后续写)
I took my sister home and continued my search alone. I walked up and down every nearby street, calling the dog’s name loudly again and again. The cold wind blew hard and my hands turned numb, but I didn’t want to give up. I asked every passer-by if they had seen a big black dog, yet no one had any clues. Tired and heartbroken, I wandered around for hours before I decided to head home unwillingly.
When I returned, my mother was waiting for me, smiling broadly. Looking past her, I spotted our dog standing happily at the doorway. I ran towards him at once and hugged him tightly. Later I learned that a kind neighbor had found the dog and brought him back. This experience taught me to be responsible for what I do.
