阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Yellowstone National Park has many campgrounds with over 2,000 established campsites. All campsites must be reserved in advance. Reservations open on a rolling basis, meaning you can book your site exactly six months before the date of your stay, as long as reservations are available for that time. Most campsites are reserved far in advance, so it is recommended that you make reservations as early as you can. All dates are subject to change.
Bridge Bay Campground
Bridge Bay Campground — elevation 7,800 feet (about 2,377 m) — is located near Yellowstone Lake, one of the largest, high-elevation, and fresh-water lakes in North America. Campers at Bridge Bay will enjoy spectacular views of the lake and the Absaroka Range rising above the lake’s eastern shore.
Canyon Campground
Canyon Campground — elevation 7,900 feet (about 2,408 m) — lies near the breathtaking Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. Canyon Village offers stores, restaurants, and lodging (住宿). Nearby hikes include Cascade Lake, Mount Washburn, and the Canyon Rim trails.
Fishing Bridge RV (房车) Park
Fishing Bridge RV Park — elevation 7,800 feet (about 2,377 m) — is located near the Yellowstone River where it exits Yellowstone Lake on its way toward the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. It is the only campground in Yellowstone to offer power connection for lighting, cooking, and charging. Because grizzly bears frequent the area, no tents or tent campers are allowed.
Grant Village Campground
Grant Village Campground — elevation 7,800 feet (about 2,377 m) — is located in Grant Village, just off the Grand Loop Road at the south end of Yellowstone Lake. It is one of the largest campgrounds in the park. Group and wheelchair accessible sites are available. Nearby there are stores, a restaurant, a gas station, a visitor center, and a boat ramp.

Stadler from California is the owner of two dogs — two-year-old Remi and 15-year-old Madi. “It was a tough introduction,” Stadler recalled. “Madi can be spirited, and bringing in an energetic puppy wasn’t her favorite thing.” Now, the dogs get along well. Still, they sometimes show the deeper bond they’ve formed in their own way.
Recently, Stadler realized that what she thought was a behavior issue with Remi was actually his way of helping his older sister. Stadler explained that she had trained Remi to ring a bell by the door when he needed to go outside. But as time passed, he began ringing it much more often.
At first, she assumed Remi simply wanted to go outside to play. But she soon realized what was truly happening. Madi had never learned to ring the bell. Instead, she used to sit by the door to signal that she needed to go out. Now that Madi had gone blind, she could no longer find the door as she once did — and Remi had noticed.
Remi started pressing the bell more frequently about two weeks earlier. Stadler admitted that at first, it confused her. She thought Remi was ringing it just to play, and when Remi wouldn’t relieve himself and only stared at her, she felt frustrated. Since both she and her husband work upstairs, the bell is how Remi gets their attention.
Clarity came when Stadler took Remi outside, brought him back, and he rang the bell again — but this time, while looking directly at Madi. Stadler then took Madi out instead, and the older dog immediately relieved herself. That was the moment Stadler understood: Remi hadn’t been ringing the bell for himself but for Madi. Stadler’s experience shows that understanding and compassion can often be found where we least expect it, offering a gentle reminder about the depth of connection between animals.
24. How did Madi initially respond to Remi’s arrival
A.Annoyed. B.Curious. C.Suspicious. D.Affectionate.
25. What does the paragraph 3 suggest about Remi’s frequent bell-ringing
A.It’s a trained response for his own needs. B.It’s an attempt to teach Madi a new skill.
C.It’s a playful act to attract more attention. D.It’s an act of awareness to Madi’s difficulty.
26. What caused Stadler’s frustration with Remi’s bell-ringing
A.A failure of Remi to take action. B.A misinterpretation of Remi’s intent.
C.A pressure of her own workload. D.A refusal of Remi to obey her order.
27. What does the author emphasize in the last paragraph
A.Old habits die hard. B.Actions speak louder than words.
C.Love me, love my dog. D.Kindness is a language all its own.
C
You’re embarrassed and then there it is: a flush, sudden reddening of the face, up your neck and across your cheeks. The more you think about it, the hotter and redder you get. If someone asks “are you blushing (脸红)”, it only makes you blush more. So, why do we do it When we’re already self-conscious, this involuntary response can feel like an added punishment. But the scientists suggest blushing may actually have social advantages.
Blushing is our body’s visible reaction when we feel emotions such as embarrassment or self-consciousness. It’s caused by increased blood flow to the skin of the face. When an emotion causes blushing, the sympathetic nervous system — which controls automatic body function — releases adrenaline (肾上腺素). In the body, adrenaline tightens blood vessels (血管), but in the face, it does the opposite — they dilate. This means more blood flows to the skin and makes the face feel hot.
People blush when they are feeling self-conscious, which is brought on by unwanted social attention. So even though the “fight-or-flight” system is involved, blushing isn’t about preparing for danger. Instead, scientists think it became a social signal, a way of showing others that we recognize a mistake or feel embarrassed. This can actually help build trust, because people often see blushing as a sign of honesty — especially as it’s involuntary. Blushing can signal a non-verbal apology for a social misstep, which can help maintain social bonds after a mistake.
Because blushing is an involuntary reaction, you can’t stop a blush once it’s coming on. However, if you have a blush that lasts more than a few days, is accompanied by pain, or makes you feel painful, talk to your health professional. But for most people, blushing won’t require medical intervention. If you can get through the embarrassment, this involuntary response can be a chance to reflect on your body’s signals, and what they reveal about you and how you connect with the world.
28. What function does the first paragraph serve
A.To show a feature of blushing. B.To explain the causes of blushing.
C.To lead in the topic of the text. D.To describe a personal scene of blushing.
29. What does the underlined word “dilate” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Expand. B.Weaken. C.Bend. D.Leak.
30. What can be inferred about the “fight-or-flight” system from the text
A.It is unrelated to the blushing process. B.It is active during the blushing response.
C.It is responsible for a different role. D.It is crucial for building trust by blushing.
31. What is the author’s suggested attitude toward normal blushing
A.Treating it as a common medical issue. B.Viewing it as a source of self-awareness.
C.Regarding it as a controllable weakness. D.Approaching it as a social embarrassment.
D
Exhaust gases from home fireplaces, and industrial facilities release carbon dioxide (CO ) into the air. Scientists have developed a new type of electrode designed to address this problem by capturing (捕捉) CO directly from the air and turning it into a useful chemical called formic acid (甲酸).
Pulling carbon dioxide out of the air may seem straightforward, especially since plants do it naturally. The greater problem lies in transforming that caught gas into something useful. In real industrial exhaust, CO is usually mixed with other gases, including nitrogen (氮气) and oxygen. Most existing conversion (转化) systems only work efficiently when carbon dioxide has already been separated and concentrated, which limits their practicality.
To overcome this obstacle, scientists set out to build a system that could operate under realistic conditions. The research team designed an electrode that allows gas to pass through it, trap carbon dioxide, and convert it at the same time. The device is made up of three layers, among which captures CO . Together, these components enable the direct conversion of carbon dioxide gas into formic acid.
Formic acid is an important chemical used in a range of applications, including fuel cells and other industrial processes. Producing it directly from exhaust gases could make carbon reuse more practical and cost effective. When tested with pure CO gas, the new electrode showed about 40% higher efficiency than existing carbon conversion electrodes. The advantage became even clearer when researchers used a gas containing 15% CO , 8% oxygen gas, and 77% nitrogen gas.
The electrode also proved capable of capturing carbon dioxide at concentrations similar to those found in the atmosphere, showing that it can function in normal air. According to the researchers, this approach offers a promising path toward integrating carbon capture into real industrial applications. They also suggest that similar designs could eventually be adapted to capture and convert other greenhouse gases.
32. What is the main challenge mentioned in CO conversion
A.Developing safe storage for CO . B.Turning CO into valuable products.
C.Finding a profitable market for it. D.Keeping CO concentrated in exhaust.
33. Why was the test conducted with two different gas mixtures
A.To prove its edge in realistic contexts. B.To determine each layer’s specific role.
C.To confirm its limitation to ideal labs. D.To assess different CO sources’ costs.
34. What can we know about the new technology from last paragraph
A.It requires stronger policy backing. B.It constitutes an early-stage solution.
C.It demands new industrial standards. D.It offers an achievable industrial way.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Who Holds the Key to CO Conversion B.Why Handling CO Remains a Challenge
C.What if We Could Turn CO into Wealth D.Where the Captured CO Ultimately Goes

Just weeks after turning 19, Dzivak had become one of the youngest volunteers for Meals on Wheels, a program devoted to delivering hot meals to the elderly and those in need. As a young man, he always thought it rewarding to volunteer. With his bright smile and infectious energy, he handled two delivery routes each week, bringing not just food but also warmth and companionship to the people he served.
Among his regular recipients was Ms. Lana, an elderly woman who lived alone in a cozy but slightly worn house. Dzivak and Ms. Lana had developed a special relationship over the months. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Dzivak would arrive at her doorstep with a warm meal and a friendly chat.
One sunny afternoon, Dzivak set out on his usual delivery route. The sky was a clear blue, and the birds were singing as he drove through the neighborhood. When he arrived at Ms. Lana’s house, he noticed something unusual. The front door was slightly open, and there was no sign of her usual friendly wave from the window.
Dzivak’s heart skipped a beat. He knew Ms. Lana was always careful about her safety, so the open door was a red flag. He quickly parked his car and approached the house, calling out her name as he stepped inside. “Ms. Lana Are you okay ”
There was no answer. Dzivak’s mind raced as he made his way through the living room and into the kitchen. That’s when he saw her — Ms. Lana was lying on the floor, her face pale and her body limp. She had suffered a diabetic (糖尿病的) episode and had collapsed, unable to move or call for help.
In her foggy state, Ms. Lana managed to call out to Dzivak. “Dzivak…help me… I’m going to die…”
