Last weekend, I volunteered at an Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition. It was a meaningful experience that helped me know more about our traditional culture.
The festival was held by the district government to show the beauty of ICH. My main job was to help the inheritor introduce paper-cutting to visitors. I explained its history and skills in English to foreign guests. Also, I guided visitors to try making simple patterns.
Through this activity, I not only learned about the value of ICH but also felt proud to be a part of cultural protection. I hope more people will join in protecting our traditional culture.2025 -2026学年八年级下学期期末模拟卷(绍兴卷)

It was a rainy evening in a small town in southern China. A heavy rainstorm hit the mountain road, and a large rock fell onto the highway, blocking half of the road.
Li Wei, a 38-year-old truck driver, was driving home with his 10-year-old daughter after a long day’s work. He was driving slowly on the right lane when he noticed two cars ahead suddenly disappear around the curve. Knowing something was wrong, he slowed down and stopped his truck right away.
After getting out of the truck, Li Wei saw the huge rock blocking the road. His truck was only 10 meters away from the danger. “If I had kept driving, we would have hit the rock for sure,” he said later. Li Wei didn’t hesitate. He asked his daughter to stay in the truck and call the police, while he tried to stop the coming cars.
At first, he used his truck’s warning lights and waved his arms, but some drivers didn’t see him in the rain. Two cars almost hit the rock because they were driving too fast. Then Li Wei took out his bright flashlight and stood in the middle of the road, waving and shouting loudly to every car that came by.

Floods are a serious problem around the world. They happen when too much water covers land. Each year, they bring great danger and damage to people’s lives and homes. Understanding this problem is the first step in finding solutions.
Floods are becoming more common. A big reason is that the earth is getting warmer. Warmer air holds more water, leading to heavier rain and stronger storms. Another big reason is rising sea levels (海平面) . This makes coastal floods worse. Big waves push more water onto the land. Scientists say that by 2100, big floods that used to (过去常常) happen only once every 100 years may happen every year. Many cities could then face great danger.
Floods create serious problems. According to a report, over 19 million people had to leave their homes in only a year because of flooding, and that’s like moving almost the whole country of the Netherlands (荷兰) . Floods break roads, bridges, and schools. After a flood, it can be hard to find food, and dirty water can spread illnesses.
So, what can we do Early warning tools can tell people when floods are coming, giving them time to reach safety. Scientists are also creating “sponge cities (海绵城市) ” by building special streets and parks that take in rainwater.
Floods are a big challenge. But if we work together and plan well, we can stay safe and protect our communities.

When you first hear about the Dead Sea, it might sound scary, but the truth is quite different. Let’s get closer to the Dead Sea and learn more about it.
The Dead Sea is located in southwest Asia. It is about 50 kilometers long and 15 kilometers wide. It sits at about 430 meters below sea level, making it the lowest lake on Earth’s land.
What’s interesting is that the Dead Sea isn’t actually a sea. It’s a lake with a salt concentration (含盐度) of more than 30%, which is about eight times saltier than common seawater. This makes it one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth. The Dead Sea stays so salty because of its special natural conditions. Each year, it receives very little rainfall, and only a small amount of fresh water runs into it. And the hot weather around the Dead Sea causes the fresh water to evaporate (蒸发) quickly, which makes the salt concentration even higher. For these reasons, it is also known as the Salt Sea.
If you were to swim in the Dead Sea, you wouldn’t see any sea life-- no plants or animals. The high salt concentration makes it impossible for them to live there. That’s actually why it’s called the Dead Sea.
However, don’t let the name of not having any sea life scare you. Even if you fall into the Dead Sea and can’t swim, you won’t die. The high concentration of salt in the Dead Sea allows anyone to float well, without the need for life buoys (救生圈). In fact, many people visit the Dead Sea every year on vacation. If you walk along the lakeside, you’ll likely see many people floating in the water, reading books or magazines.
27.What do we know about the Dead Sea
A.It is the largest place in Asia. B.It is the widest sea in the world.
C.It is the deepest point in America. D.It is the lowest place on Earth’s land.
28.Why do people call it the Dead Sea
A.It is a lake with very high salt concentration.
B.No fresh water runs into it and water evaporates fast.
C.It is not very safe for people to swim in it.
D.No sea animals can stay alive in its water.
29.What does the underlined word “float” in the last paragraph probably mean
A.下沉 B.漂浮 C.潜水 D.游泳
30.What is the main idea of the text
A.It shares some interesting facts about the Dead Sea.
B.It explains why people enjoy visiting the Dead Sea.
C.It gives advice on safe swimming in the Dead Sea.
D.It encourages people to take a trip to the Dead Sea.

“Where are you going ” The Chinese often ask this question when two friends meet in the street. But if you ask Americans the same question, they will be surprised because they think that “going to some place” is their own business. In their eyes, only a policeman will ask such a question in the street.
Americans will feel the same if you ask them “Have you had your meal ” In fact, to us Chinese, such questions do not mean anything but greeting.
In America, when two friends meet in the street, they will say “Hello!” or “How are you ” They never ask “Where are you going ” or “Have you had your meal ” If two friends meet at meal times and one asks the other “Have you had your meal ”, that means he wants to invite his friend to have a meal with him. It’s quite different from what it means in China.
The examples above tell us that people in different countries have different customs. Now that we are learning foreign languages, we must pay great attention to those customs.

例文
Last weekend, I volunteered at an Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition. It was a meaningful experience that helped me know more about our traditional culture.
The festival was held by the district government to show the beauty of ICH. My main job was to help the inheritor introduce paper-cutting to visitors. I explained its history and skills in English to foreign guests. Also, I guided visitors to try making simple patterns.
Through this activity, I not only learned about the value of ICH but also felt proud to be a part of cultural protection. I hope more people will join in protecting our traditional culture.
