四、阅读理解
The front cover and pictures were so colourful and eye-catching, and the book was also like a piece of art! It was a lovely way for 3—7 year olds to learn more about the seasons, the earth’s cycles, and how night becomes day. This was such a heartwarming story. I had tears in my eyes through the last few pages. The cover and pictures are really to my liking and show exactly what the story is about. Both my daughters were interested when we read it as a bedtime story. It’s educational but in a perfectly written way for children. .
This is a super colourful book with a lot of pictures and activities. The pages are busy and exciting. Activities include a board game about saving water, inventing your own eco-friendly transport and showing how you can find out how clean our air is. We love all things Winnie the Pooh and it was lovely to explore a different story featuring the characters we know and love so well. The pictures in the book are beautiful scenes from around 4,000,000 square metres of wood. We really wondered how the book could manage the pictures of plants, birds, and animals on each page. This book was a real adventure, and we’ll enjoy it for many years.

In the past, making dictionaries was different from today. Without computers, dictionary makers had to do everything by hand, which took many years of hard work.
First, teams of researchers read thousands of books, newspapers, and letters. As they read, they copied important information on cards: interesting words, common words—both in their daily uses and unusual uses, the words and the uses of each word were collected. For big dictionaries like the Oxford English Dictionary, they collected over 5 million such cards! As the cards were collected, they were put in alphabetical order (A-Z). ________.
Then, dictionary makers would study all the cards for one word to understand its different meanings. For example, they might find that “mouse” could mean an animal or a computer device. Finally, they wrote the definitions (定义), following the hard-and-fast rule: each definition must come from an example on a certain card in front of him.
The most important rule was that dictionary makers never invented meanings. They only wrote definitions based on how people actually used words in real life. They are the historians (历史学家) not the law makers. Sometimes, this research took decades—the first Oxford English Dictionary needed 70 years to finish!
Nowadays, we can use online dictionaries. When choosing our words in speaking or writing, we cannot be controlled by it, because the new society, new inventions, and new feelings are always pushing us to give new uses to old words.
54.Which shows the correct steps of how dictionaries were made in the past

A.①③④② B.①②④③ C.③④②① D.③①④②
55.What can we learn from the passage about dictionary writing in the past
A.It should be done by historians. B.It was a task of inventing and recording.
C.It was long-time hard work. D.It had to use the law-making rules.
56.Which sentence is the best for “________” in Paragraph 2
A.When this was done, there would be several hundred cards for each single word.
B.There are many types of cards, such as paper-based cards and e-cards.
C.However, if dictionary writers use them in a wrong way, the cards can’t help them.
D.Cards as tools can help the learners to develop their language skills.
57.What does the writer advise us to do when we choose words in communication
A.Be open to the new uses of words. B.Follow the dictionary only.
C.Use online dictionaries instead. D.Try to create new words.
When plastic was first made around 1870, people thought it was amazing and called it an “environmental hero”! It was light, long-lasting and cheap. It quickly replaced (取代) wood and other natural materials. Not surprisingly, plastic has now filled our lives, too. We can find it in bags, toothbrushes, mobile phones, houses... It certainly has thousands of uses.
But slowly and silently, plastic has shown its dark side. Plastic waste has become a danger to sea animals. Some animals like whales eat it by mistake and die. The “hero” of the past now kills over 100,000 sea animals each year. By 2050, there could be even more plastic in the sea than fish.
Plastic also causes problems on land. Birds’ wings get tied in plastic lines. Bears’ heads get stuck in plastic bins. Even humans are eating plastic waste! On average (平均来看), we eat five grams of plastic a week. That’s a whole bank card! Tiny pieces of plastic are found in the air. There is even plastic “snow” at the South and North Poles (南北极). On “Earth Plastic”, nowhere is safe from plastic.
Moreover, getting free of plastic waste isn’t easy. It may take thousands of years to break down. So hiding the waste in the ground doesn’t help. Burning it also produces thick smoke and causes air pollution.
Plastic is not just causing an environmental problem. It means life and death for humans and for the future of the Earth. Everyone knows there is only one Earth. So let’s live without plastic!
58.What did people think of plastic when it first appeared
A.It was a great material. B.It was bad for the environment.
C.It was too heavy to use. D.It could be used for a short time.
59.What is the main idea of paragraphs 2~3
A.Sea animals can’t avoid eating plastic. B.There will be less plastic in the sea.
C.Bears often look for food in plastic bins. D.Plastic waste harms the environment.
60.Why is it hard to get free of plastic waste
A.It takes a long time to break down. B.Hiding the waste needs much space.
C.It costs the government too much money. D.Burning plastic causes water pollution.
61.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To introduce different uses of plastic. B.To ask people to stop using plastic.
C.To explain why we need another Earth. D.To show plastic makes our life easier.
Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an inseparable (不可分离的) part for us. They bring convenience and efficiency (效率), but also raise questions about their influence on human relationships. Take Emma’s family for example.
Emma’s family got a new AI helper called Robo-Mom last month. Robo-Mom looks like a tall robot with a screen for a face. It can cook meals, clean the house, and even help Emma with her homework. “It’s so cool!” Emma said. “Yesterday, it taught me math problems I didn’t understand.”
But Emma’ s mom isn’t happy. “Robo-Mom does everything,” she says. “Emma doesn’t talk to me any more. She asks the robot instead.” Last week, Emma forgot her mom’s birthday. When her mom asked why, Emma said, “Robo-Mom didn’t remind me.”
One day, the robot caught a virus (病毒). It started making mistakes: it cooked burnt food and said strange things. Emma had to fix it by herself. While working on the robot, Emma talked to her mom about how to solve the problem. They worked together for hours and finally fixed Robo-Mom.
“After that, I realized something,” Emma said. “AI can help us, but it can’t take the place of family. Now I ask my mom for help more often, and we laugh when Robo-Mom makes funny mistakes.” The robot still helps the family, but Emma and her mom understand that human connection is more important. To be honest, AI can really simplify (简化) tasks and offer practical help. However, it can never replace the warmth of human connection or the value of shared experiences. After all, the most meaningful moments in life are always those spent with the people we care about.
62.What can Robo-Mom do
A.Teach math and tell stories. B.Cook, clean, and help with homework.
C.Buy gifts and remember birthdays. D.Fix viruses and make decisions.
63.Why was Emma’s mom unhappy
A.Robo-Mom didn’t work well. B.Emma forgot to fix the robot.
C.The robot cost too much money. D.Emma spent less time with her.
64.How did Emma fix Robo-Mom
A.Her mom helped her. B.She called a technician.
C.The robot fixed itself. D.She used a new virus.
65.What does the story want to tell us
A.AI can solve all problems. B.Families shouldn’t use AI helpers.
C.Human connection is important. D.Robots are better than parents.

The wind carried the good smell of fallen leaves and apples through the garden. I followed Grandpa as we walked along the rows of apple trees, each branch heavy with fruit. The sun hung low in the sky, making long golden shadows across the ground. Birds sang cheerfully and the air was fresh.
Grandpa stopped by an old tree with large branches and touched its rough trunk. “Let’s pick the apples here,” he said, handing me a basket.
I climbed on tiptoes to reach the juiciest apples and the basket began to be filled up quickly. I was proud of what I did. My hands smelled sweet from the apples, and I could already imagine the pies Grandma would make. Just then, I noticed a robin (知更鸟) picking a shiny red apple and flying towards a small nest (巢) hidden between the leaves. I tiptoed closer and looked inside the nest. There were tiny birds chirping softly, their beaks wide open, waiting for food. The robin placed the apple near them and gently fed the little ones. And I noticed how carefully it broke the apple into tiny pieces.
I froze. The apple I had just picked dropped from my fingers and landed with a soft sound on the ground. I looked at my basket, full of apples, and then at the robin’s nest. A wave of sorry washed over me. These apples weren’t just ours—they were part of the life here in the garden. Without thinking, I picked a few apples from my basket and put them carefully by the nest, “For your little ones.”
When I returned to Grandpa, he noticed my basket wasn’t as full as before. “What happened ” he asked.
I smiled shyly, “I shared some apples with the robin.”
Grandpa nodded, “Good work.”
I felt warm inside. The apples in my basket seemed sweeter than ever.
86.What were Grandpa and I going to do in the garden

88.Why did the robin pick the apple and fly towards the nest

Giving a Helping Hand
Good afternoon, everybody!
I’m Simon from Class 1, Grade 8. We are talking about what we can do to give a helping hand to others in trouble. I’m glad to share something with you.
Helping others is important because it makes the world a better place. When we help someone, we not only solve their problems but also spread kindness. I believe that small acts of kindness can bring big changes.
I always try my best to help others. For example, when my classmate has difficulty with homework, I patiently explain it to them. Also, if I see an elderly person carrying heavy bags, I offer to help them. These small actions can make a big difference.
Helping others makes me feel happy and proud. It gives me a sense of responsibility and strengthens my friendships. If everyone lends a helping hand, our school and community will be warmer and more united.
That’s all. Thank you for listening!
