With so many NYC museums to choose from, it's hard to begin. The good news is that you're in the right place. Below is a highly selective list of museums in New York City.
Metropolitan Museum of Art
Occupying two million square feet, with a permanent collection of over two million works of art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (founded in 1870) is one of the largest galleries in the world. During the Spring Festival, “Ne Zha 2” became a really popular animated movie. The cinema attendance rate was over 90%. When Ne Zha and Ao Bing fought hard against Wuliang Xianwong, the cool sound effects made me feel like I was right there in the movie. Suddenly, I thought of a question: How did they make these great sounds Because I was curious, I went home and started looking for answers. Then I learned about the interesting world of Foley artists.
The name “Foley” comes from Jack Foley. He did a lot for the art of sound effects. When sound effects were first added to movies, he came up with a new way to make them. He recorded sounds on one track and added them to the actions in the movie.
Foley artists are like sound magicians. They make movies more lively. Their workplaces look simple, but there are lots of tools. They can use normal things to make great sound effects. For example, shaking an umbrella can sound like a strong storm. Hitting two parts of a coconut can sound like a horse's walking. Even though Foley artists work behind the scenes, working with actors is very important. Jack Foley said, “You have to act out the scene. You have to be like the actors and understand the story just like they do on the set. It makes a big difference.”
In general, paying attention to small things is very important to Foley artists. They also need to be able to make sounds by themselves. This needs creativity and imagination. Getting the perfect sound takes a lot of tries. So, being patient is also important. To make the sound of a character running in the mud, Foley artists have to try many different things and keep changing how they step.
When I learned more, I was sad to find out that there are only about 100 Foley artists working around the world. Foley work is great for movies, but there are so few artists now. Maybe it will become a dying art. But I'm glad that with virtual reality getting better, Foley work might change. Next time you watch a movie, listen carefully to the little sounds. They are like secret messages from Foley artists, telling us they are there.
4. Why did the author start to learn about Foley artists
A. Because “Ne Zha 2” was very popular.
B. Because the sound effects in “Ne Zha 2” were cool.
C. Because the author wanted to become a Foley artist.
D. Because the author was curious about how movie sound effects were made.
5. What did Jack Foley do for the movie industry

B. He invented new tools for Foley artists.
C. He trained many famous Foley artists.
D. He made the first animated movie.
6. What is very important to Foley artists according to the passage
A. Being able to act in movies.
B. Paying attention to small details.
C. Working alone without others' help.
D. Having a lot of money to buy tools.
7. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Foley work will disappear soon.
B. There will be more Foley artists in the future.
C. Virtual reality will replace Foley artists completely.
D. Foley work may develop in a new way with virtual reality.
C
It's easy for consumers to buy food and drinks like a bowl of hot rice and Coke online or from neighbourhood shops, but for astronauts such things were impossible in the past.
Members of China's Shenzhou manned space flight last year, however, were able to enjoy such food, thanks to Joyoung, a Chinese firm. Joyoung created a mobile space kitchen for the astronauts. A drinking water machine, an air heater and a soybean milk maker were all accessible in the kitchen through a smart app.
Tang Hongbo, who was a member of the Shenzhou manned spacecraft said in the news that during his three-month trip, he could eat hot food with just half-hour efforts, a contrast to the past when similar attempts required several hours. “If we had time, we would also use equipment to eat homemade yogurt. We could also control the equipment in the space kitchen through the mobile phone app,” he said.
In the past, most food couldn't be directly heated in a microwave oven in space. Conduction equipment often caused uneven heating. An astronaut had to spend as long as four hours to heat some vegetables in the space kitchen. To solve the problem, Joyoung has developed equipment that gives out hot air to heat vegetables in a 360-degree way. That enables astronauts to eat steaming hot fish-flavoured pork and Gong Bao Chicken, a spicy, stir-fried Chinese dish.
Besides Joyoung, a group of companies, including Xiaomi Corp. and Huawei Technologies, have contributed their technologies to the development of the space station. A vacuum cleaner made haircuts on the spacecraft possible. NOLO VR, a Chinese virtual reality manufacturer, has helped astronauts develop an experimental equipment through which laboratory technicians on the ground can see and experience what astronauts are doing in space.
8. What does Tang Hongbo think of Joyoung's mobile space kitchen
A. Water-saving.
B. Energy-wasting.
C. Time-saving.
D. Money-wasting.
9. How does the author show the convenience of the mobile space kitchen
A. By making contrasts.
B. By analyzing results.
C. By providing pictures.
D. By answering questions.
10. What does the last paragraph want to show
A. Joyoung needs to further its technology.
B. What astronauts are doing is significant.
C. Astronauts on board can do as they wish.
D. There are more technologies for the spacecraft.
11. What is the best title for the text
A. The Hot Diet on the Space Station Needs to Be Addressed
B. Earth to Space: Firms Add Value by Offering Technology
C. Modern Technology Brings Convenience to Human Beings
D. Manufacturers Make Big Profits from Inventing Equipment
D
Life is busy. We're always expected to be productive and engaged, whether that's with parenting, housework, or work. While taking time for small rewards can feel like a luxury, the truth is that it is necessary for improving our mental health. A key psychological idea behind this is the Premack Principle, which explains why treating ourselves is more than a tendency; it's a way to improve our daily lives.
In the 1960s, American psychologist David Premack developed a theory now known as the Premack Principle. He explained that doing something you're more likely to do can be a reward for doing something you don't actually want to do. For instance, if you finish a task you're not interested in, like cleaning the bathroom, you can treat yourself to something you like, such as watching an episode of your favorite TV show. This approach takes advantage of our natural need for fun to help us get through tasks we might not enjoy.
Recent studies keep showing that giving yourself rewards can help improve your work and happiness. For example, Woolley and Fishbach discovered that getting rewards right away can make you more motivated because it links the reward directly with the task. What's interesting is that it's not how big the reward is but how quickly you get it that matters. Another study by Landry and others found it's not the reward itself but rather how the reward makes people feel that helps them do their best. This makes sense because rewards boost our dopamine levels, which plays a key role in how our brains feel pleasure.
The idea of giving ourselves “little treats” is not just about enjoying something; it's proof of how positive reinforcement can change our behavior and make us feel better mentally. By carefully using the Premack Principle and rewarding ourselves, we can find more motivation to face challenges and lead a happier life. It's okay to recognize and celebrate our efforts, big or small.
So, go ahead, give yourself that little treat. You've earned it.
12. What is the Premack Principle
A. A tool to work out a long-term plan.
B. A way to complete tasks effectively.
C. A means to make boring tasks enjoyable.
D. A theory to explain how rewards improve happiness.
13. According to Woolley and Fishbach, what helps to improve motivation
A. The type of tasks.
B. The immediate reward.
C. The size of the reward.
D. The level of dopamine.
14. What might be “positive reinforcement” according to paragraph 4
A. A clean-up.
B. Physical training.
C. A graduation ceremony.
D. A favourite snack.
15. What is the most suitable title for the text
A. The Importance of Productivity
B. Motivation and Mental Health
C. The Premack Principle for Life
D. Dopamine and the Brain's Pleasure

Sara's day at school was very busy and she was very tired. She had to wait for her father who had worked overtime to pick her up. Waiting in the school ground, Sara didn't want to talk to anybody.

“Sara, how are you ” it was Aliya's mother on the phone.

Sara realized how mistaken she was. Here she was, complaining about the very food that her friend cherished. Aliya had never once grumbled about her meals. Sara felt ashamed of her ingratitude. Her mother worked hard every day to provide for the family. Sara understood now that food was not just nourishment; it was a reflection of love and care. She felt a sense of guilt for her thoughtless words and actions. Determined to make a change, Sara stood up, resolved to apologize to her mother and appreciate the meal that awaited her.
But as she reached the kitchen door, she was surprised to see her mother preparing pizza for her. Tears welled up in Sara's eyes as she witnessed her mother's unconditional love. “Mum,” she said softly, “I’m so sorry for what I said earlier. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I should have appreciated your effort instead of complaining.” Her mother smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling with tears of joy. “Family is about understanding and e, let’s eat together and enjoy our meal.” They sat down at the table, hearts mended and spirits high, sharing a meal filled with love, understanding, and forgiveness.
