Dear students,
We are excited to organize a science and math activity. Our goal is to measure (测量) the heights of trees in the park. As we’ve learned in science class, the height of the tree is closely related to sunlight, water, and soil. For this activity, we’ll make use of the math idea of similar triangles (相似三角形), which is really interesting and useful.
Here are some steps on how to do it. First, stand a stick on the ground. Make sure it’s straight. Then, carefully measure both its height and the length of its shadow. Next, work out the shadow length of the tree exactly. Finally, use math skills to find out the tree’s height by comparing the stick’s height with its shadow length.
Please get fully prepared for this activity. We can’t wait to explore the magic of science and math together!

In a small village, there lived a famous old carpenter (木匠). People traveled from far and wide to buy his furniture (家具).
One day, a young man came. The young man loved working with wood, but he hardly ever created furniture that was strong and beautiful. He had tried making pieces on his own, but they often fell apart or looked messy. Hearing that the old carpenter was famous for his patience and perfect craftsmanship, the young man hoped to learn the skills from him. However, he was always hurrying to finish things. After a few days of learning, the young man thought, “I can make furniture faster.”
The old carpenter noticed this and said, “I can teach you to make furniture quickly, but first, you need to do a simple job.” He then handed the young man a rough board and said, “Make this board smooth.”
The young man thought it was easy at first. He sanded (用砂纸打磨) the board a few times and soon gave it back. The old carpenter felt the board and said, “It is not smooth enough. Try again.”
A little impatient, the young man sanded harder. But the old carpenter shook his head once again.
Feeling sad, the man started to think twice. He wasn’t in a hurry anymore and sanded every part of the board carefully. Finally, the board was as smooth as a mirror.
This time, the old carpenter smiled and said, “You have learned an important lesson: Success needs not only skill but also patience.”

Manage Our Time Wisely
Time management is very important for everyone.
To manage our time well, we can make a to-do list every morning. This helps us prioritize tasks. We can set small goals. For example, instead of saying “study English for two hours,” we can plan to learn 20 new words and finish one reading exercise. And we can do important things first, which helps us finish work better. Moreover, we should avoid distractions like checking phones or playing games while studying.
Briefly, wise time management boosts grades and lifelong good habits.
