Double victory! On March 28 and 29, 2026, a motorcycle made by the Chinese brand ZXMOTO won both races at the Portuguese round of the Superbike World Championship (WSBK).
WSBK is not only a competition where riders race for speed, but also a stage for companies (企业) to present their production ability. The victory marks the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand has won this event. For many years, the sport was dominated by big motorcycle brands such as Italy’s Ducati, Germany’s BMW and Japan’s Honda.
Zhang Xue, 39, founder (创始人) of ZXMOTO, told Xinhua that the winning motorcycle has a more powerful engine (发动机) and lighter body than other motorcycles in the race.
Years ago, it was almost impossible for a Chinese brand to build such high-performance motorcycles. That’s because there were no powerful China-made engines. Key technologies to improve engine performance were also locked by leading foreign companies.
Zhang has seen and taken part in the development of China’s motorcycle industry. As a motorcycle lover, he has worked as a repairman and a racer. In 2013, he went to Chongqing, China’s motorcycle capital, where he began building his first motorcycle.
In 2024, Zhang founded ZXMOTO and focused on researching and developing engines. His aim matches China’s goal of high-quality development and innovation (创新).
Today, Chongqing is home to more than 40 motorcycle makers and over 400 components (零部件) producers. “In only one market, you can find all the components you need to build a motorcycle,” Zhang told Xinhua. “I believe our victory will make China’s motorcycle industry more confident, and force the international community to reconsider how they view us.”

A. Controlled. B. Started. C. Changed. D. Followed.
59. Why was it almost impossible for Chinese brands to build high-performance motorcycles years ago

D. Chongqing did not have enough motorcycle components producers.

A. He once worked as a repairman and a rider.
B. He built his first motorcycle in Chongqing in 2024.
C. He founded ZXMOTO right after he moved to Chongqing.
D. He aims to develop engines that match China’s innovation goals.
61. Which is the correct order of China’s motorcycle industry development mentioned in the passage
①ZXMOTO achieved the first WSBK race win for a Chinese motorcycle brand.
②China began focusing on high-quality development and innovation in engine technology.
③Chinese brands could hardly build high-performance motorcycles due to the lack of key technologies.
④Chongqing became a major motorcycle industry base with over 40 makers and over 400 component producers.

Have you heard of “the giant panda of the water” It’s the Yangtze finless porpoise (江豚) a national first-class protected animal found only in the Yangtze River. Sadly, its population dropped from about 2,700 in the early 1990s to around 1,800 by 2006. One reason is the increase in boat traffic, which has led to more noise and pollution in the river, China Daily reported.
To protect the river and its wildlife, the government has come up with some new ideas. One is the river and lake chief system (河湖长制). Under this system, leaders at different levels are responsible for protecting rivers and lakes.
“No illegal (非法的) pollution was found, and there are no obvious floating objects (漂浮物) on the river,” Ouyang Junnian, the river chief of Dutoutang town in Hunan, reported while checking the river on May 16, 2023. Besides this routine task, the chiefs also help deal with wastewater and protect riverbanks. Hunan has also set up the “12314” hotline so people can report problems, Hunan Daily said.
Since Jan 1, 2021, a 10-year fishing ban (禁渔令) has also been in place. It stops people from commercial (商业的) fishing in the Yangtze River. In July 2024, for example, three people in Yuanjiang, Hunan, were fined (罚款) 9,900 yuan for illegally catching 40 kilograms of fish in a no-fishing area. This ban is important because too much fishing has left the Yangtze finless porpoises with less food and has caused some to get caught in fishing nets.
Thanks to these efforts, the number of Yangtze finless porpoises rose from 1,012 in 2017 to 1,249 in 2022. Other important animals, such as the Chinese sturgeon (中华鲟), are also coming back. From 2021 to 2024, scientists found 344 native fish species (种类) in the Yangtze River, which is 36 more than the number found between 2017 and 2020, Xinhua said.
63. How many Yangtze finless porpoises were there in 2006
A. About 2,700 B. 1,249 C. 1,012 D. Around 1,800
64. Why does the author mention the case of three people being fined in Paragraph 4
A. To tell us how to report illegal activities.
B. To explain why the porpoise’s food is not enough.
C. To prove that the fishing ban is strictly carried out.
D. To show that illegal fishing is common in the Yangtze River.
65. What does the underlined word “these” refer to in Paragraph 5
A. The work of counting porpoises by scientists.
B. The news reports from China Daily and Xinhua.
C. Only the 10-year fishing ban in the Yangtze River.
D. All the protective actions mentioned in Paragraphs 2 and 3.
66. What is the writer’s attitude toward the future of Yangtze finless porpoise
A. Worried. B. Uncaring. C. Positive. D. Hopeless.
67. In which part of the magazine could we read the passage
A. Travel Guide. B. Sports World. C. Science and Nature. D. Business News.

Are you a person with lots of facial expressions A new study has found that people who use facial expressions often are better at negotiating. It means discussing something with others to try to reach an agreement.
At Nottingham Trent University in England, researchers studied more than 1,500 conversations between people. The first part of the research was having some video calls to record people’s expressions in different situations. The recordings were shown to more than 170 people, who had to rate (评估) whether people in the videos were popular based on their facial expressions.
In another part of the study, researchers recorded video conversations between 1,456 strangers and studied their expressions. After the conversations, the people who had been talking to each other had to rate how much they liked each other. The results showed that those with more expressive faces were more liked by their conversation partners.
During the video conversations, people were also given a situation where they had to negotiate a deal. The more expressive people generally got a better result. The researchers said this suggests that people who use lots of facial expressions are considered more friendly. Scientists also think that being expressive could be important for solving disagreements.
Bridget Waller, who worked on the study, said the research may explain why humans have developed more facial expressions than any other animal. She added that although facial expressions are often thought to show someone’s feelings, she believes they are more likely to be a way of communicating, along with using words. Using facial expressions could also be a way for humans to connect with one another.
68. How does the writer lead into the topic
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving an example.
C. By sharing a story. D. By raising a question.
69. What were 1,456 strangers asked to do during the study
①To negotiate a deal. ②To study their own facial expressions.
③To rate how much they liked each other. ④To make video conversations with others.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①②④ D. ①③④
70. Which would Bridget Waller probably agree with
A. Using words is a better way to communicate.
B. Facial expressions are only used to show feelings.
C. Animals have developed more facial expressions than before.
D. Expressive faces can help people connect with one another better.
71. What would be the best structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
72. What would be the best title for the passage
A. A Research Studies Strangers. B. Expressive Faces Win More Friends.
C. Shy People Fail to Communicate. D. Humans Have More Facial Expressions.

Love Yourself, Love Your Life
Recently, the internet phrase “Love you, Lao Ji” has become popular among teenagers. It is a warm and humorous way to encourage us to love ourselves, accept our imperfect sides and live a positive life.
In daily life, we can love ourselves by getting enough sleep, treating ourselves to a snack, taking a walk to relax, and stopping self-blame. Loving yourself is important because it gives us a healthy mental state to face challenges bravely. Besides, self-love is the foundation for caring about others and building good relationships. To love myself better, I will keep a diary to record my progress instead of focusing on shortcomings, and develop a hobby like painting to express my feelings.
Let’s start loving ourselves from small things and live a happier life.
