Old wives’ tales (传说) are those “helpful” things that your grandparents say. But they are probably not true. They are things like, “If you watch TV a lot, your sight will be poor”, “If you eat carrots, you’ll see well in the dark”, or “If you eat cheese at night, you’ll have bad dreams”. But are they nonsense (胡扯) or sometimes a little bit true We decided to find out more.
Let’s start with a famous one, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. My grandma always says this. Well, everyone knows that fruit is important for health. But can one apple really make a difference A study says “yes”. It finds that if people over 50 eat an apple a day, they have smaller chances to have heart disease (心脏病) than those who don’t.
My uncle is a big believer that “fish is brain (大脑) food.” He often eats it and he is a clever man, too. It looks like he might be right. Fish have a lot of omega-3 and omega-6 fats in their oil. Some scientists from Oxford studied 120 children, and they found the children who ate omega-3 and omega-6 did well in their schoolwork. If you eat fish oil, it will help to prevent heart problems, too. It seems that eating fish is a good idea.
Finally, what about carrots Can they really help us see well at night I have eaten carrots all my life, but I still walk into things when I get up at night. Unluckily, I can’t find anything to tell if this is right or wrong.

When you stay at a summer camp or a friend’s house, you know you’re there for a fun time. But you may still feel unhappy. You start to miss your family and want to go back. It’s called being homesick (想家的). Do you want to feel less homesick Here’s how:
Bring something from home with you. If you’re going on a summer camp, you can bring some pictures of the people you will miss and look at them any time you want to.
Make friends and keep yourself busy. If you have something to do in a new place, you will have less time to feel homesick. So try to find some interesting things to do and soon you might start to have a good time.
Keep in touch with your family and friends. You might give them a phone call from time to time. You can also write a letter! But be sure not to tell them the terrible or bad things you have.
Ask your family or friends to visit you and be their guide. Let them visit the place you live. You can also take a trip back home, but don’t go home too often.
Tell someone your feelings. This will help you feel better. Maybe you can tell a friend. Then the two of you can do some interesting things, such as telling stories. If you’re at camp, you can also tell your camp teacher. He or she might have some ideas to help you feel better.
