“When choosing a career, I’ve always believed that young people should seek what they truly love.” That’s exactly the path Moyun has taken. Moyun, a music influencer, gained fame by covering (翻唱) pop songs on the guzheng. Since 2014, her Bilibili uploads have earned millions of views.
Despite the overnight success, Moyun didn’t let it upset her life. “I was still a student at the time, and during those years focused on studying, the video’s sudden popularity didn’t really change my daily routine,” she recalled.
But the wave of positive comments from the audience greatly inspired her to follow her love for the guzheng. With this drive, Moyun has gained many fans by playing modern songs on the old guzheng and slowly created her own special way of mixing old and new music styles.
One standout example of her works is the cover of the Eagles’ Hotel California, which has gotten over 20 million views on YouTube. Many international viewers, after watching her videos, are amazed by her performances and often ask the same question: “What instrument is this I’ve never seen it before.”
To Moyun, it’s unfortunate that the guzheng is not well-known outside of China. She thinks the common English translation for guzheng- “Chinese zither” -is not quite right. However, she is hopeful that this will change, especially as more young people in China seek to reconnect with their cultural roots.
“I believe that when we present the guzheng with cultural confidence on global stages, introducing it proudly by name, it will become the accepted universal term,” Moyun said.
Next, Moyun plans to play modern songs from different types of music using the guzheng, challenging ideas about traditional Chinese instruments. With a focus on finger-style techniques and original compositions, she aims to expand what the guzheng can do. “Don’t limit yourself — explore more,” she said.
4. What did Moyun do after her sudden success
A.She quit her studies.
B.She changed her performing style.
C.She turned a professional.
D.She went about her daily life as usual.
5. What makes Moyun’s music particularly special
A.Having unique stage presence.
B.Mixing traditional and modern styles.
C.Reaching global followers online.
D.Focusing on covering classical music.
6. What does Moyun’s attitude to the term “Chinese zither” indicate
A.She favors spreading Chinese culture confidently.
B.She regards the guzheng as a type of the zither.
C.She credits the guzheng’s global fame to the term.
D.She hopes Chinese young people reconnect with western culture.
7. Which of the following best describes Moyun
A.Innovative.
B.Honest.
C.Considerate.
D.Generous.

Birds have long inspired human beings, especially through their remarkable ability to fly. Migratory (迁徙的) birds, in particular, play a key role in maintaining natural balance. Twice a year, they start grand journeys, spreading seeds and eating insects. These activities help keep ecosystem healthy, which in turn contributes to food security. Francisco Rilla, a wildlife biologist, notes that migratory birds also act as “bioindicators”, avoiding polluted areas and thus providing valuable data on environmental quality.
During their fall migration, birds watch the decreasing daylight-which they understand to mean food will soon be in shorter supply-for a sign that it’s time to head south. They also use the sun, stars, coastlines, and large bodies of water to guide them on their journeys across the world. However, these natural signs and resources are increasingly being impacted. Rising sea levels change coastal stopover sites, while increased ocean acidity (酸化) affects the shellfish that birds rely on for food. Moreover, extreme weather events, such as storms, can also be deadly. In addition, warmer temperatures may lead birds to shorten their migration journeys or not return to their original habitats, causing conflicts over food with local animals. As a result, some species have failed to adapt and have died out.
To help migratory birds, experts recommend expanding protected areas through international effort. The United Nations Environment Program supports these efforts and suggests creating more bird-friendly environments. This year’s World Migratory Bird Day, on May 10, stresses promoting coexistence between humans and birds. The key message is to encourage the creation of healthy habitats, reduce pollution, and avoid glass buildings, which bring about a significant crash risk for birds. If migratory birds disappear, it could upset agriculture and the food web. As Rilla said, “Whatever happens to them could also happen to us.”
8. Why are migratory birds referred to as “bioindicators”
A.They migrate long distances for habitats.
B.They rely on natural signals for migration.
C.Their activities contribute to food security.
D.Their behaviors reflect environmental changes.
9. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about
A.The problem of the decreasing daylight.
B.The risks the migratory birds face.
C.The results of the extreme weather events.
D.The way the migratory birds use to guide their journeys.
10. What can we conclude from Rilla’s words in the last paragraph
A.Human activity hardly has impact on birds.
B.The survival of humans depends on bird’s migration.
C.Humans and migratory birds share the same future.
D.Protecting birds from crashes is the most important task.
11. Which of the following is the best title of the text
A.Birds’ Role in Natural Balance
B.Migratory Birds: Amazing Journeys

Most of us learn how to ride a bike during childhood. But as we grow older, many of us stop riding and put those once-beloved bikes away. Years later, when we discover these old things and jump on, it’s as if we never stopped biking. This is surprising because our memories fall short in so many other cases, such as remembering the name of a place or a person we once knew or where we put our keys. So how is it that we can ride a bicycle when we haven’t done so in years
The answer has to do with what kinds of memories we’re making. Neuropsychologist (神经心理学家) Boris Suchan explains that we have two different kinds of long-term memory: declarative and procedural. Within declarative memory are two subtypes: episodic (情景的) and semantic (语义的) memory. Episodic memory is the recall of an event in your life, like going to a concert or falling into a hole. Semantic memory, also known as factual memory, is knowing that World War II ended in 1945.
But acquiring a skill is part of procedural memory. Learning how to drive, play a sport, or ride a bike are all activities that are stored in another part of the brain. In theory, it would be possible to suffer a brain injury that could steal your memory of riding a bike but keep the part that knows how to ride the bike. Supposing the brain part which processes non-declarative memory, is unharmed, you’ll be able to ride a bicycle without incident. But why is procedural memory so strong That’s less clear to science, although one reason, Suchan writes, is that the regions in the brain where movement patterns are formed experience less nerve cell (神经细胞) turnover, helping to keep recall of those actions.
That’s why you can always jump on a bike but not necessarily remember that movie. Do you still remember the moment when you first learned how to ride a bike
12. What does the underlined phrase “fall short” in paragraph I probably mean
A.Fail.

C.Flash.
D.Vary.
13. Which of the following belongs to semantic memory
A.Mastering swimming skills.
B.Recalling a birthday party.
C.Knowing the capital of France.
D.Picking up a foreign language.
14. What can be learned about procedural memory in paragraph 3
A.It is less likely to be forgotten.
B.It is easily damaged by brain injuries.
C.It is well-understood by scientist.
D.It has more frequent nerve cell turnover.
15. What is the purpose of the passage
A.To introduce a new discovery.
B.To argue for a particular viewpoint.
C.To describe a personal experience.
D.To explain reasons for a phenomenon.

It was her dream, a chance Emily knew would not knock at her door again. All year long, she had imagined herself on the school dance team, performing under the bright lights. She had to catch the opportunity, but her confidence was shaky. Her best friend Lisa’s words didn’t help. either. “Don’t worry if you can’t make it.” Lisa had said. “Almost everyone gets cut in the first round.” It hurt her deeply, but Emily stayed quiet.
With only two days left. Emily practiced in her bedroom, replaying the routine again and again. But her turns were shaky, her landings awkward. She missed a step, hit the desk, and knocked over some papers. I’m so bad at this. I can’t even dance right. These thoughts filled her mind as she kept practicing. Feeling upset, she wiped her wet hands on her pants and put on her jacket. She decided to go for a walk, hoping the fresh air would clear her mind.
Outside, the wind felt cool on her sweaty face. Not far away, two kids were kicking a soccer ball, their laughter carrying across the field. One missed the ball completely and tumbled (翻滚) onto the grass, only to pop up instantly. “My turn again!” he shouted, as if failure meant nothing. Emily slowed to watch. They weren’t worried about perfect kicks - just playing, falling, trying again.
A realization came to her: What if I stopped worrying about being perfect and just danced She hurried home, feeling excited. This time when she practiced, she didn’t count each mistake. She moved to the rhythm, feeling it rather than fighting it. Later, she texted Lisa: Just wait and see. I’ll make it.
On the very day, when Emily’s name was called, she walked onstage, calm and ready.
