教学内容
[What] Thematic topic: People who made outstanding contributions to the society Text type: Narrative Content: This text introduces Yuan Longping, who is called “the father of hybrid rice”. From the general introduction to introducing Yuan’s ambition, research process, achievements and dreams, this text demonstrates Yuan Longping’s precious qualities. [Why] Arouse students respect for this pioneer — Yuan Longping. Help students understand their development and value should be combined with the development of our country and society. Encourage students to think about their life pursuit and dream. Lead students to have a positive value towards their life. [How] Structure: The first paragraph introduces Yuan Longping’s identity, research field, achievements and appearance. From paragraph 2 to paragraph 4, the reason why Yuan Longping determined to study agriculture, Yuan’s efforts, success and achievements in the creation of hybrid rice are introduced. The fifth paragraph presents the vivid image of Yuan as an agricultural scientist. The last paragraph introduces the success of developing “seawater rice”. Organization: Time order Language features: Simple past tense is mainly used. Contrast is used to show the precious qualities of Yuan Longping. Figures are mentioned to emphasize Yuan’s invaluable contributions and make the text more convincing and accurate.
学情分析
Strengths: Students are familiar with the basic elements of narratives. Students are able to get the key information about great people. Weaknesses: Students are not familiar with how Yuan Longping developed hybrid rice. Too much information in the narrative may lead to students’ fear of difficulty. Strategies: 1.Design layered activities with clear purposes. 2.Use different reading skills and cooperate with others properly.
教学思路
At the beginning of the class, the teacher uses pictures to enable students to understand the hunger problem and introduces the scientist Yuan Longping who was devoted to solving the problem. Then the teacher guides students to learn about the title and picture and predict the content and the type of the text. While reading, students actively match each paragraph with the main idea and the key word and grasp the structure of the text. Then students are guided to explore the text in detail by doing activities related to each part of the text. After reading the text, students firstly learn to retell Yuan Longping’s life according to the timeline and the clues. Then the teacher guides students to discuss within groups to have a better understanding of the title, Yuan Longping’s qualities and what we should do after learning from Yuan Longping. At the end of the class, students review what they have learned in the class by recalling the key aspects about Yuan Longping, appreciate Yuan Longping’s words and reflect on what they have learned by accomplishing a self-evaluation form.
教学目标
By the end of the class, students will be able to: 1. grasp the main content of the text and extract the information about Yuan’s identity, the creation of hybrid rice, Yuan’s attitudes and visions. 2. analyze the structure and infer the author’s writing purpose and skills through thinking independently and cooperating with others. 3. appreciate the meaning of the title properly and evaluate Yuan Longping’s qualities logically. 4. establish a respectful attitude to great people, appreciate their qualties and be ready to take actions.
