Mind maps are a powerful learning tool that helps students organize information and improve their memory. They were invented by British psychologist Tony Buzan in the 1960s. Unlike traditional note-taking that relies on long sentences, mind maps use a central topic and branches to connect related ideas.
The main advantage of mind maps is that they are visual. Our brains process pictures and colors faster than text, so mind maps make it easier to remember complex information. They also help students see the connections between different ideas, which improves understanding.
To make a mind map, start by writing the main topic in the center of the page. Then draw branches from the center for each main idea. Use different colors for different branches and add small pictures or symbols to make maps easier to remember. You can also add sub-branches for more detailed information.
Many teachers encourage students to use mind maps for taking notes, reviewing lessons and planning essays. Studies show that students who use mind maps remember 30% more information than those who use traditional note-taking methods. Mind maps are also useful for group projects, as they help everyone share ideas clearly.

Chinese shadow puppetry is an ancient folk art with a history of over 2,000 years. It is often called the “ancestor of modern cinema” because it uses light and shadows to create moving images that tell stories.
Shadow puppets are usually made of leather or paper. They are cut into different shapes and painted with bright colors. Each puppet has movable arms and legs, so performers can make them walk, dance and fight. During a show, performers stand behind a white screen and hold the puppets close to it. They move the puppets with sticks and do the voices of all the characters.
In the past, shadow puppetry was one of the most popular forms of entertainment(娱乐活动)in China. People would gather to watch shows during festivals or important events. However, with the popularity of TV and movies, shadow puppetry has become less popular in recent decades. Many young people are not interested in this traditional art form.

The crested ibis(朱鹮)is one of the most endangered birds in the world. Once this kind of bird was widely seen across East Asia, but its population dropped sharply in the 20th century because of habitat loss, pollution and illegal hunting. By 1981, only seven crested ibises were left in the wild in Shaanxi Province, China.
Realizing the urgency of protecting this beautiful bird, Chinese scientists launched a rescue program immediately. They set up nature reserves to protect the ibises’ living environment and banned hunting completely. Scientists also started a breeding(培育)program to increase the population. They took good care of the eggs and baby ibises, and when the birds grew up, some were released into the wild.
Thanks to these efforts, the crested ibis population has recovered significantly(显著地). Today, there are over 7,000 crested ibises in the world, with most of them living in China. The bird has been downgraded from “critically endangered” to “endangered” on the IUCN Red List.

Rubbish sorting has become a common practice in most schools across China. It is not just a way to keep the campus(校园)clean, but also an important lesson in environmental protection for students.
Every classroom and playground has different colored rubbish bins for different types of waste. Blue bins are for recyclable things like paper, plastic and glass. Green bins are for food waste, while red bins are for harmful waste such as batteries and old paint.
Sorting rubbish correctly has many benefits. It helps reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills(垃圾填埋场), which saves land and reduces pollution. Recyclable materials can be turned into new products, which saves natural resources. For example, one ton of recycled paper can save 17 big trees.
Schools use many ways to teach students about rubbish sorting. They hold special classes, put up colorful posters and organize interesting competitions. Many schools also set up “green teams” made up of student volunteers. These teams check the rubbish bins every day and help classmates sort their waste correctly.
Taking part in rubbish sorting helps students develop good habits and a sense of responsibility. It teaches them that small daily actions can make a big difference to the environment. When students go home, they also teach their families how to sort rubbish properly, which helps spread environmental awareness to the whole community.

第三节 书面表达
Dear Tom,
I’m glad to receive your letter and share my ideas about the school of the future.
In my imagination, future schools will be equipped with high-tech tools like VR and AI to make learning more interactive. We can explore historical events or do science experiments in a virtual world. After class, there will be various activities like robot clubs, gardening, and cultural festivals. I hope future schools will let students learn at their own pace and pay more attention to students’ mental health. I believe it will be a place full of joy and creativity.
What’s your ideal future school like Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
