Justin Horner was driving down a busy highway when his tire (轮胎) blew out. He pulled over and made a sign asking for help.
Three hours later, a truck finally pulled up and out came a family of four. They were Latino (拉丁裔的). Their young daughter acted as a translator between her Spanish-speaking parents and Horner, so that they could work together to fix Horner’s car. It took them about an hour. When they finished, the mother shared a big bottle of water with everyone to drink and wash their hands.
“I thanked them again and again,” Horner recalled. “I tried to give the mother money. I only had a $20 bill, and I thought it was the least I should do. And she wouldn’t take it.”
But Horner insisted (坚持). Finally, he put the money in her hand and walked away. Then he heard their young daughter call out and ask him if he was hungry. Indeed he was. She came over with a tamale (墨西哥粽子) from their cooler. Horner thanked them once again. Then the little girl got into the truck, and they drove off.
“As they were trying to get into the traffic,” Horner said, “I was unwrapping (打开) the tamale and found my money in it.”
Horner immediately ran over to the truck to get the father’s attention. “He rolled down the window,” he said. “He saw me coming and he was just shaking his head. I kept saying, ‘Please, take it!’—I was holding the bill out. Then he put his hand up, with a big smile on his face, and just said, ‘Today you, tomorrow me.’”

The 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala was held on New Year’s Eve as usual, bringing joy to people all over the world. Among all the wonderful programs, Wubot, a martial arts show, became one of the most popular and special ones that attracted many people’s attention.
During the performance, many humanoid robots practiced martial arts with young performers from Henan Tagou Martial Arts School. They performed difficult movements together, such as back flips and stick-fighting. Their movements were neat and powerful, and the audience (观众) cheered loudly all the time. The whole stage was full of excitement and energy.
The biggest highlight of Wubot is the creative combination of traditional Chinese martial arts and modern AI technology. To make the robots move like real martial artists, the young students played an important role behind the scenes. They showed the movements to the robots again and again. By learning from the students’ demonstrations (示范), the robots were able to perform well on stage. The result was a beautiful show where tradition and technology came together.

“Wow! Look at that! Isn’t it a real fish ” The bionic (仿生) fish, named “Jinlin”, was swimming lively like a real one. It was developed by researchers at Shanghai Ocean University. This invention isn’t just for fun—it shows how humans copy nature to solve problems. That is a science called bionics.
Over millions of years, animals and plants have developed smart ways to survive. For example, kingfishers are experts at moving fast between air and water with very little noise. Through their study, scientists discovered that the birds’ long beaks (喙) enabled this ability. Then they used the knowledge to change the front of the high-speed train. This change cut down noise level, increased speed by 10% and greatly saved energy. This combination (结合) of biology and engineering is the key to success in bionics. And it has set the stage for the rise of other new technologies.
Driven by robotics and AI, bionics has grown rapidly. The AI-powered bionic fish “Jinlin” can be used for environmental protection and deep sea exploration. In medicine, bionic arms can work similarly to real arms. Sensors allow the user to “feel” touch and pressure. Motors help the bionic arms make movements, like human muscles (肌肉). With AI, the bionic arms are able to “learn” new tasks and become smarter over time. These inventions are examples to show how bionics bridges biology and new technologies to solve humans’ problems.
Although so much progress has been made, bionics faces challenges. Nature’s designs are hard to copy perfectly. As for bionic arms, one key area of development is Brain-Computer Interface (脑机接口). More work on direct communication between the brain and bionic arms is required to control movements as naturally as real arms. Researchers are also working on creating new materials and structures which can sense and repair themselves.
While there’s still a long way to go, the future of bionics is full of possibilities. Stay hungry. Stay foolish. Maybe you’ll be the next one to change the world!
47.Why does the writer mention “Jinlin” at the beginning of the passage
A.To suggest some new ideas. B.To lead into the topic of bionics.
C.To explain the habits of fish. D.To show the importance of bionics.
48.What can we learn from Paragraph 3
A.Robotics and AI have developed fast because of bionics.
B.The bionic fish “Jinlin” is used for medical purposes.
C.Motors allow the bionic arms to make movements.
D.Sensors help bionic arms learn new tasks over time.
49.According to Paragraph 4, how would scientists make bionic arms more like real ones
① By connecting motors with smart phones.
② By developing new materials and structures.
③ By improving Brain-Computer Interface.
④ By changing the shape and look of bionic arms.
A.①② B.②③ C.①④ D.③④
50.Which of the following shows the use of bionics
A.Drawing a picture of birds by watching real birds.
B.Building a house with natural materials like wood.
C.Designing a camera by copying some insects’ eyes.
D.Learning to dance by studying monkeys’ movements.

If you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk all day long, you may experience lower back pain. This condition troubles about 619 million people worldwide. 51
Taking short breaks to stand and walk around can help. 52 The good news is that there is an easier way to help reduce lower back pain. It’s called “seated salsa”. Just like salsa dancing, your hips (髋) move forward and back when you do it.
To perform seated salsa, you should sit up straight and keep your feet on the floor. 53 Without moving your shoulders, you should push your right knee forward and pull your left knee back. Then, push your left knee forward and pull your right knee back. Repeat this movement for one minute.
54 In it, patients with lower back pain performed seated salsa while a machine recorded their muscle tightness (肌肉紧张). The study results showed that doing just one minute of seated salsa every 30 minutes helped relax muscles and reduce pain.
“This exercise is very easy to do. 55 How nice it is!” McCarthy said.
Seated salsa is also useful for old people who are not very physically active or have difficulty moving around. Seated exercises like this can help build up strength gently. So, try a little seated salsa and keep your lower back pain-free.
A.For these people, the pain makes their daily life hard.
B.You don’t even have to get up from the chair.
C.Both your knees should point straight in front of you.
D.However, you might be too busy to do this sometimes.
E.A researcher named McCarthy and his team carried out a study.

[1] Traditional Chinese paper-cutting once lived only on windows. Now, it is finding new life in modern designs and international art shows. One young artist leading this change is Chen Fenwan. This post-90s woman mixes old skills with fresh ideas. Chen calls herself “an artist made of paper”. “Paper shapes both I create and how I think,” Chen said.
[2] Usually, in paper-cutting, people keep the uncut paper and away the cut-out pieces. Chen asked a new question: “What if the empty space becomes the focus ”
[3] This idea shaped her show called Paper Cutting in Paris during the 2024 Summer Olympics. Chen imagined a world where everything was made from symmetrical (对称的) paper-cuts, suggesting a society built on balance.
[4] Chen believes the beauty of paper-cutting comes from “subtraction (减法)”. The balance between solid and empty space is like the Eastern idea of yin and yang. To Chen’s surprise, when she introduced her work to the president (主席) of the International Olympic Committee, he brought up yin and yang right away. “That moment made me realize it isn’t just an Eastern idea,” Chen said. “It’s a language everyone understands.”
[5] Another special part of Chen’s work is her use of pink. She once thought pink was the of the “good girl”, but her view of it shifted in 2016, when she came to see it as a colour of life. “My early pinks were soft,” she said. “Now they are bright.” This change shows her growing courage to break free from old ideas.
[6] Chen believes the true beauty of paper-cutting lies not just in its colors or shapes, but in the ideas and spirit it expresses. She wants her art to draw attention, but more importantly, to inspire people to think about the world around them.
71.What does Chen Fenwan call herself (No more than 5 words)

When I was a child, my family lived in a small, quiet town. My greatest joy back then was reading books. My favourite place in the whole town was a new bookshop that opened when I was ten. What made it special was its beautiful garden at the back. I often bought a book and then sat in the garden to read it.The owner, Mr. Davies, noticed how much I loved books. So when I turned 15, he offered me a job to give a hand in the bookshop on weekends. I was excited! I helped organize shelves, recommend stories to younger kids, and of course, read. Later I had to leave town for university. I was sad to say goodbye to the bookshop. Many years later, I can honestly say that I missed the shop and still loved books. That little shop was like a lifelong friend in my memories.
