Besides The Four Books and Five Classics, what other books did ancient Chinese people read Let’s take a look!
Dongjing Meng Hua Lu Dongjing Meng Hua Lu is a book by Meng Yuanlao. It’s like a detailed diary or memory book about Dongjing (Kaifeng), the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty. In 1126, the Jin Dynasty took over northern China. This made the Song court move the capital to Hangzhou. Because of this, Meng Yuanlao had to leave his home. Wanting to keep the past alive, he wrote this loving book to look back on Dongjing, covering its city life, business, and traditions. It even describes over a hundred famous dishes and snacks.
The Night Boat Instead of writing in difficult classical Chinese, Zhang Dai, a writer and historian in late Ming Dynasty, used easy and interesting words in his book, The Night Boat. The book is like an encyclopedia (百科全书) full of ancient cultural knowledge. It has 20 parts such as astronomy, geography, foreign lands, and plants. Filled with fun “cold facts”, people today call it “the joke book from ancient times”!
The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake During the Ming Dynasty, Xu Hongzu, better known as Xu Xiake, kept a diary of his travels and explorations from 1613 to 1639. That is The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake. It’s not only a travel encyclopedia, but also a key work in ancient Chinese geography. AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is the technology that lets machines and computer programs think and behave like humans. By learning from data, AI can be improved and become smarter over time. It can understand your words, answer your questions, and even make recommendations just for you.
Actually, AI helps reduce loneliness in various ways. For example, AI robots provide friendly interaction throughout the day, which is helpful for people who live alone. Elderly individuals often find comfort in robots that respond to their voices and emotions. It is also used in autism groups to help them practice social interaction in a safe space.
AI companions (同伴) are available around the clock, offering company whenever someone feels lonely or wants to talk. They can provide a convenient and low-cost form of company that people can get no matter where they are, especially for those who have trouble moving around or have health issues that limit socializing. Beyond that, AI acts as a perfect listener. You can tell it anything, and it will never judge you or cut you off.
Although AI can help with loneliness, it also comes with some risks that should be considered carefully. AI cannot fully replace real human relationships. Depending on it too much will weaken people’s social skills and desire (渴望) to connect with others. Also, since AI collects personal data to improve its responses, privacy can become a problem. Finally, we have to remember that AI is programmed to please you. This might cause you to sink deeper into your own feelings without getting the honest feedback (反馈).
So, it’s okay to talk to AI when you feel lonely, but it shouldn’t be your only shoulder to cry on. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is put down your phone and go out into the world.
24. How does the writer explain what AI is
A. By giving examples of robots.
B. By listing its different programs.
C. By telling how it learns and what it can do.
25. For whom are AI companions especially helpful
A. Those who have many friends.
B. People who can’t move around easily.
C. People who enjoy travelling around the world.
26. Why might AI fail to provide honest feedback
A. Because it is made to please its users.
B. Because it cannot think for itself.
C. Because it cannot hear clearly.
27. What does the writer think of using AI to deal with loneliness
A. He has doubts about it.
B. He does not care about it.
C. He shows a fair opinion of it.

When it comes to house fires, many people believe that cooking is the biggest cause. However, in fact, electrical malfunctions (电气故障) have topped the list in China. Electricity runs through every room in our houses, so there are many ways an electrical fire could start. Follow these safety tips to protect your house from electrical fires.
The best way to avoid electrical fires is to have your house’s wires (电线) checked regularly. Usually, this should be done every 3 to 5 years. But don’t wait if you notice signs like lights that flicker (闪烁) or make strange noises, or outlets (插座) that feel warmer than usual to touch. If you see any of these problems, call an electrician right away for a safety check.
If your house is old and has trouble running your appliances (家电), it might be time to upgrade (升级) the electrical system. Calling an electrician to change the main electrical box or wires in the house can cost some money, but it will save more money and energy over time — and, more importantly, keep your family safe.
Make sure GFCI and AFCI outlets work well. GFCI outlets are usually put in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens. They keep you safe by turning off the power if something like water gets into a hairdryer or the dryer has an electrical problem. AFCI outlets help avoid fires by cutting off power if they find dangerous signs or wiring problems inside walls. If these outlets stop working, you could be at risk of a fire.
Keep a fire extinguisher (灭火器) nearby. Water should never be used in an electrical fire, as this could make the situation worse. Instead, use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. If possible, turn off the appliance causing the electrical fire to stop the fire from growing.
28. According to the passage, what is the most common cause of house fires in China
A. Electrical malfunctions. B. Heating equipment. C. Cooking.
29. What is the benefit of upgrading the electrical system
① It helps the family stay safe. ② It allows people to use fewer outlets.
③ It saves money in the long run. ④ It saves energy over time.
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④
30. How do GFCI and AFCI outlets help avoid fires
A. By checking smoke and turning off power.
B. By turning off appliances to stop fires from growing.
C. By cutting off power in time during electrical malfunctions.
31. Which shows the right structure of the passage (①=Para. 1; ②=Para. 2; …)
A. ①→②③④⑤ B. ①→②③→④⑤ C. ①→②③④→⑤
D
On a cold and sunny Wednesday morning in Beijing, Xu Wei, a blind man, went to a community center to “watch” a film.
The experience inside the screening room was different from a common one. During quiet moments in the film, a friendly voice described everything happening on screen—the beautiful scenery, the characters’ actions, and even their facial expressions.
This special film version was created by Guangming Cinema, which takes its name from the Chinese words for “light and brightness”. The volunteer-driven nonprofit organization focuses on producing accessible (易理解的) films for people who can’t see well. With over 17 million people with vision problems in China, the work is very important.
What audiences experience at Guangming Cinema might look simple, but the work behind it is difficult.
To adapt (改编) a 90-minute film, the team watches it ten times, carefully studying every part of the film. Then they write a narration script (旁白脚本), usually 20,000 to 30,000 words in total. Next, three students, two teachers, and one blind person work together for 28 days to bring an accessible version of the film to life. So far, Guangming Cinema has already produced over 800 films!
Over the years, the project team has organized lots of screenings across the country. Its volunteers work closely with local disability organizations and schools. People can also see many of the films on TV and online platforms at no cost.
These screenings are more than just films. They provide a valuable social experience. They give people who have trouble seeing more topics to talk about and help them live a more colorful life.
In the future, the team hopes to help people with different disabilities enjoy films, museums, and other cultural activities.
32. What is special about Xu Wei’s experience
A. He watched the film for free.
B. He met the film’s actors in person.
C. A voice described the scenes to him.
33. What does the underlined part “with vision problems” mean
A. People who have difficulty seeing.
B. People who have hearing problems.
C. People who are afraid of bright light.
34. Why does the writer list many numbers in the fifth paragraph
A. To compare different film versions.
B. To prove how difficult the team’s work is.
C. To show how popular the team’s films are.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. How to Become a Film Volunteer
B. A New Movie Theatre Run by the Blind
C. Making Movies Accessible to the Blind

Kakapos are strange birds. They are heavy and cannot fly. They only come out at night. And they’re endangered. But now, the birds are making a comeback. Scientists think a record number of baby kakapos will be born this year.
Kakapos live only in New Zealand. They are the heaviest parrots in the world and can weigh up to four kilograms. They spend most of their time on the ground because they cannot fly. But they can use their wings to balance when they jump between trees.
Kakapos look a little like owls (猫头鹰) and have a strong smell. Their bodies are covered in green, yellow, and black feathers (羽毛). The feathers help them hide in trees.
Long ago, many kakapos lived in New Zealand. Then people came. They hunted the birds and cut down the forests where kakapos lived. By 1995, there were only 51 kakapos left.
Scientists worked very hard to protect them. They moved the birds to three safe islands. They also helped the birds have more babies and made sure the babies stayed alive. Today, there are about 236 kakapos. That is much better, but they are still endangered.
Kakapos can live for 60 to 80 years, but they don’t have babies every year. They only have babies every two to four years, and only when there is plenty of food. Their favourite food is the red berries (浆果) of rimu trees. This year, ______________________, so the kakapos are having many babies.
Scientists think 2026 will set a new record for kakapo births. The old record of 73 was set in 2019.
Scientists say it will still take a lot of work to save kakapos. But this year is a very good sign. They hope that in five to ten years, the birds will be on their way to a safer future.
