After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, separate rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every room provides a treadmill(跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, (空调) and users can let down the curtains(窗帘) for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen. But there's no shower.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can find a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance （提前） and then scan a QR code(二维码) for use. A refundable deposit(可退还的押金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company. though the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally new, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan since it was founded.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. In March, the State Information Centre published a report which says that the total value of China's sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country's GDP.

Mount Tai is one of the most famous mountains in China. Every year, millions of tourists visit it. But the mountain has steep and rocky paths. People can only climb up and down on these narrow(狭窄的) roads. For many years, workers called “porters”(搬运工) carried heavy things like food, water, and rubbish. They worked very hard because the paths were difficult.
In 2023, over 8.62 million tourists came to Mount Tai. This created a big problem: about 24,000 tons of rubbish every year! Cleaning and moving the rubbish is not easy. Cableways(索道) can help at the start and end of the mountain, but the middle path still needs workers. However, fewer people want to do this hard job now.
Now a new helper has come: a "smart porter" robot dog! This robot dog can carry heavy things on its back. It has four strong legs that move just like a real dog's. There are cameras on its "head" that can "see" the way, and smart chips (芯片) inside help it think and decide. It walks on the rocky paths just like people. And it doesn't get tired and can work all day. Now, porters can spend less time on heavy lifting and more time on other important things, like keeping an eye on the mountain's environment.

It helps make special mountains like Tai safer," says Dr. Lin Wei, who works on the project. "By using machines for the hardest work, we protect both workers and nature."
