Ⅱ.读后续写
阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was ten years old, my mom decided she wanted a dog. My sister and I were excited about the idea. We went to the local shelter (收容所) where we discovered a dog who had been hit by a car. One of his back legs was badly injured, and he was clearly in terrible pain.
My mom adopted the dog and took him to the vet's. The vet fixed his leg and said he would be fine. It took him a long time to get well, and he had to be helped up and down the stairs to our second floor apartment for weeks. The bad leg was always a little shorter than the others, but he got along fine. So, we had a dog.
Now our dog needed a name. My mom couldn't think of any name except that of a dog on a television show—a smart dog named Oliver. So she named our dog Oliver.
Oliver loved all of us, letting my sister and me put him in dolls' clothes, cut his hair, and play with him, but my mom was his savior (救星).When she left the house to go shopping, he howled (嗥叫) at the top of his voice until she returned. And when she came home, he was beside himself with happiness.
Oliver went with us on vacation each summer, from our home in Washington State to our grandparents' homes in Massachusetts and New York. We never had to worry about Oliver; we just opened the door and he got out, did what was needed and got back in the car.
One day, we stopped at midday for gas and a bathroom break at a station in the middle of nowhere. It had started to rain. Everyone rushed out of the car and took off in several directions. A few minutes later, we were on the road again.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。

One possible version:
Hours passed when my mom asked suddenly,“Where's the dog?” That was when we found Oliver wasn't in the car. Realizing that Oliver might have been left at the gas station, Mom decided to turn back to the gas station. On our way back, my sister and I looked out of the window every now and then, hoping to see Oliver, but we didn't. Fearing that he might be hit by a car or hurt, we sped up the car.
We went all the way back to the gas station but couldn't find Oliver. Where did the dog go Near the gas station, we looked around, calling his name. Suddenly, Mom heard Oliver barking from the woods behind the gas station. We rushed to the woods, only to find Oliver wet and dirty in an animal trap. We pulled him out as hard as we could. He was unhurt and just a little dirty. The dog rushed to Mom excitedly. Once again, Mom was his savior.INCLUDEPICTURE "英YLBXEUNIT4LLL.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "../../../英YLBXEUNIT4LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT INCLUDEPICTURE "../../../英YLBXEUNIT4LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT INCLUDEPICTURE "../../../英YLBXEUNIT4LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT INCLUDEPICTURE "../../../英YLBXEUNIT4LLL.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT

【改编自北师大选必三U8】
The crash was so violent that I have no clear recollection of falling from the boat. Might I hope to be saved The darkness was intense (强烈的). I saw a black mass disappearing in the east. It was the boat! I was lost.
“Help, help!” I shouted, swimming towards the boat in desperation. I was sinking! I couldn't breathe! “Help!” My mouth filled with water; I struggled against being drawn deeper, deeper down.Suddenly I felt myself quickly drawn up to the surface of the sea; and I heard these words:“If master would be so good as to hold onto my shoulder, master would swim with much greater ease.” I grabbed (抓住) my faithful Conseil's arm with one hand.
“Is it you?” said I.
“Myself,” answered Conseil.
“That crash threw you as well as me into the sea?”
“No; but, being in my master's service, I followed him.”
Conseil was cool and calm. However, our situation was no less terrible. Near one o'clock in the morning, I suddenly felt terribly tired. Conseil had to keep me up, and our preservation(保存) depended on him alone. “Leave me! Leave me!” I said to him.
“Never!” replied he. “I would drown first.”
“Help! Help!” cried Conseil. It seemed to me as if a cry answered him. There was no mistake! A human voice responded to ours! Then, I know not why, the thought of the strange, terrible animal came into my head for the first time! But that voice! I had almost no strength left; my fingers could hardly move; my mouth, opening and closing, filled with salt water. I became colder and colder. I raised my head for the last time, then I sank.
At this moment a hard body struck me. I held onto it; then I felt that I was being drawn up, that I was brought to the surface of the water, that my chest collapsed—my eyes closed, unconscious (失去知觉的). I soon woke up, and half opened my eyes. I saw a face which I immediately recognised. “Ned!” I cried.

(2025·廊坊高一期末)Charles Dickens was an English writer. He is regarded as one of the finest writers in English language and the greatest novelist of the Victorian Period.
Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812.He was born to John Dickens and Elizabeth Dickens from Landport, Hampshire, England. His father was thrown in prison when he was a child. For this reason, Charles Dickens had to leave school. He started to work in factories from an early age. At age 20, he wanted to become an entertainer. He was full of energy and did mimicry (模仿) at the time. He got an acting audition (试镜) but missed it due to cold. Before Charles Dickens got another chance at fame in acting, he had already set out to become a writer.
Charles Dickens rose to fame with The Pickwick Papers in 1836.He was using the pen name Boz at the time. His success as a novelist continued with the release of Oliver Twist in 1838.His later works Dombey and Son and David Copperfield had a more serious theme than his earlier works. David Copperfield is considered to be one of his greatest works ever. Dickens wrote 15 novels in his lifetime. He also wrote numerous short stories, essays, travelogues and plays.
Dickens had a deep rooted concern for the poor people because of his own experiences of hardship. He was a sharp critic (批评者) of the social problems of his time. He exposed the dark side of Victorian society such as the gap between the rich and the poor. He believed in the power of good and the possibility of social reform. His characters often tried to get a better life and moral values, giving readers a sense of hope.
Charles Dickens married Catherine Dickens in 1936.On June 9, 1870, Charles Dickens died of a stroke at the age of 58.

(2025·烟台一中高一期末)Samuel L.Clemens, also known as Mark Twain, started off his writing career (事业) in 1865 with his big hit story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County—a story within a story told to a listener by an old California miner. From that day on, the works of the great humorist always had different animals.
Some members of Twain's literary (文学的) animals were based on real animals, such as the Clemens family's named pet cats. Some were imaginary, like that celebrated jumping frog.
As a boy in Missouri, he got pleasure from knowing the animals of the woods; in old age, he felt a deep relationship with the animals large and small that he met in his travels. His cats, family dog, horses, donkeys, and calf also won his three daughters' love at their Hartford home.On March 22, 2018, to mark this part of Twain's personal life, the Mark Twain House & Museum opened a new exhibition (展览), Tails of Twain: How Animals Shaped the Man & His Work. The exhibition was rich with exhibits from the museum's collections.
The king of the animals in Twain's world was the cat,“the only creature in heaven or earth or anywhere that don't have to obey (听从) somebody or other, including the angels.” He was known to be the proud pet parent of 19 cats during his childhood. As an adult, the Clemens home always had a named cat.Even on vacation, the Clemens family borrowed cats from locals to live with them.Dogs were considered second class pets, but Twain liked them.Twain once wrote an ode (颂诗) to his dead dog Burns:“She lived a quiet harmless life in Hartford...”
In true Twainism, humans were not as loved as the “Higher Animals”.Even the most low down animal, however, was superior in Twain's eyes to “the human race”.After all, he did write once, “Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel.”

Increasingly Caffeinated China Has Become the World Leader in Coffee
Adapted from The Economist 2024.8.10
Between 2010 and 2022 coffee consumption in China rose fourfold, but the average Chinese person still drinks a fraction of the amount consumed by the typical American: 0.1kg per year compared with 4.7kg. But in 2023, China surpassed America, becoming the country with the most branded coffee shops in the world.
By some accounts it was Danes who opened the first coffee shop in China in the 1830s. The drink didn't catch on, in part because the Qing Dynasty took a dim view of foreigners and limited their influence. A record from that period described coffee as a “black liquor, which the foreign devils drank after meals, saying it can help with digestion”.
But after China introduced market reforms and opened up to the world in the 1980s, foreign firms brought instant coffee to the country. They catered to local tastes, making their mixes sweeter and less bitter. Western style coffee shops arrived years later, with international chains entering the Chinese market in the late 1990s. These establishments introduced freshly brewed coffee, which was new to China. Having a laptop in one hand and a relatively expensive cup of coffee in the other became a way for young middle class people to indicate their status. The biggest coffee drinking population is still “white collar workers in first tier cities aged between 20 and 40”. China's experience mirrors the fact that rising incomes led to more coffee consumption. A surge in office jobs—and long working hours—in China has also fuelled demand.
Today, though, a wider range of the population is partaking thanks to the rise of domestic coffee chains selling affordable brews. The industry leader now operates over 20,000 outlets. Price differentials are striking—domestic brands typically charge one third the price of their foreign counterparts for basic coffee offerings. In 2023, a local chain's annual sales exceeded those of established international players for the first time.
Coffee companies in China are also still trying to cater to local tastes. One innovation has been the “tea coffee”, a concoction that blends the two drinks. The domestic coffee chain.

Meeting Dickon
Excerpt from The Secret Garden
性格孤僻的小女孩玛丽、农家小子迪肯和体弱多病的少爷柯林成了好朋友,他们找到了秘密花园的钥匙,和花园一起经历了一次诗意般的复活。
There in front of her was a boy①.He was sitting under a tree, playing② on a wooden pipe③. He was about twelve, with a healthy red face. Never had Mary seen④ such round, blue eyes in a boy's face. There was a squirrel (松鼠) and a crow in the tree, and two rabbits sitting on the grass near him.
“They're listening to the music!”thought Mary.“I mustn't frighten⑤ them!” She stood very still⑥.
The boy stopped playing.“That's right,”he said.“Animals don't like it if you move suddenly⑦. I'm Dickon and you must be Miss Mary. I've brought you the spade (铲子) and the seeds.”
He spoke in an easy, friendly⑧ way. Mary liked him at once⑨. As they were looking at the seed packets⑩ together , the robin hopped on to a branch near them.Dickon listened carefully to the robin's song.
“He's saying he's your friend,” he told Mary.
“Really?Oh,I am pleased he likes me.Can you understand everything that birds say?”
“I think I do, and they think I do. I've lived on the moor (荒原) with them for so long. I've watched them break their shell and come out. I've watched them get their feathers and learn to fly and begin to sing. Sometimes I think I am a bird or an animal, not a boy at all!” His smile was the widest she had ever seen .
He explained how to plant the seeds.Suddenly he said,“I can help you plant them!Where's your garden?”
Mary went red , then white. She had never thought of this. What was she going to say?She felt miserable , going red and then pale.
“Could you keep a secret ?It's a great secret. If anyone discovers it, I'll...I'll die!”
“I keep secrets for all the wild birds and animals on the moor. So I can keep yours too,” he replied quite good-humoredly .
“I've stolen a garden,” she said very fast.“Nobody goes into it, nobody wants it.I love it and nobody takes care of it! They're letting it die!” And she ended passionately , threw her arms over her face and started crying.
“Don't cry,” said Dickon gently . “Where is it?”
“Come with me and I'll show you,” said Miss Mary.
They went to the secret garden and entered it together. Dickon walked round, looking at everything.
“It's wonderful!” he said.
“What about the roses?” asked Mary worriedly .“Are they still alive What do you think?”
“Look at these shoots on the branches. Most of them are alive all right.” He took out his knife and cut away some of the dead wood from the rose trees.Mary showed him the work she had done in the garden, and they talked as they cut and cleared.
“Dickon,” said Mary suddenly,“I like you.I never thought I'd like as many as five people!”
“Only five!” laughed Dickon.
He did look funny when he laughed, thought Mary.
“Yes, your mother, Martha, the robin, Ben, and you.”Then she asked him a question in Yorkshire dialect , because that was his language.
“Does tha' like me?” was her question.
“Of course!I like thee wonderful!” replied Dickon, a big smile on his round face.Mary had never been so happy.
When she went back to the house for her lunch, she told Martha about Dickon's visit.
“I've got news for you too,” said Martha.“Mr Craven's come home, and wants to see you! He's going away again tomorrow, for several months.”
“Oh!” said Mary. That was good news. She would have all summer in the secret garden before he came back. But she must be careful. He mustn't guess her secret now.

【改编自北师大选必三U8】
Greenwich Village is a place where the art people came together, hunting for apartments with north facing windows and low rents. At the top of a three story building, Sue and Johnsy had their studio (画室).
In November, a cold, unseen stranger, whom the doctors called Pneumonia, arrived in Greenwich Village. Mr Pneumonia placed his icy finger on Johnsy; and she lay, hardly moving, in her bed staring at a blank wall under her blanket.
The doctor took Sue aside and claimed, “She has one chance in—let us say, ten. And that chance is for her to want to live. Try to encourage her to think more hopeful thoughts, about the future, about living.”
Sue took some paper and a pen into Johnsy's room and began a pen drawing, in an attempt to raise Johnsy's spirits. Johnsy's eyes were open, but they weren't watching her. Instead, she stared out the window and counted backwards: “Ten, nine, eight, seven...”
“What are you counting, dear?” asked Sue. “They're falling faster now,” replied Johnsy. “Three days ago there were almost a hundred. But now it's easy. There are only five left now. Five leaves on the ivy vine (藤). When the last one falls, I must go, too. Didn't the doctor tell you?”
“Oh, I never heard of such nonsense(废话),” quickly replied Sue. But Johnsy's mind was made up. “I want to see the last one fall. I'm tired of waiting. I want to go sailing down, down, just like one of those poor, tired leaves.”
“Try to sleep,” said Sue. Then she went to fetch her neighbor, Mr Behrman, to be a model for her drawing. He was a failed painter. In 40 years he had never produced the masterpiece (杰作) he longed to paint. Sue told him about Johnsy's longing to slip away like the leaves. Behrman cried with disbelief. “Are there people in the world that foolish to think they'll die because leaves drop off from a vine? This is not a place in which Miss Johnsy shall lie sick. Someday I will paint a masterpiece, and we shall all go away.”

(2025·驻马店期末)Educated is a memoir (回忆录) by Tara Westover, a woman who grows up as the youngest of seven in a rural Idaho Mormon community. She and her brothers were all born at home and are homeschooled (在家上学), and her parents are deeply doubtful about the government. Her father fears that public education standards are just brainwashing (给某人洗脑).
The story is told in three parts. Part One details her childhood. Westover describes her father's radicalization (激进). In Part Two, Westover goes to college at BYU. She describes the culture shock of being confused about what the Holocaust (大屠杀) was. Then she has to learn about history and struggles through her first romantic relationship. Finally in Part Three, Westover goes to Cambridge for her PhD, attempts to face her family issues and brings us up to date with her life now.
Educated is an attractive book on various levels. As a personal journey for Westover, it's successful. Westover goes from receiving little education to eventually getting her PhD at Cambridge. As a story, it's unique. Westover's experiences make for a different viewpoint. And as a reader, it's interesting to consider how her views are shaped.
To be honest, in the beginning Educated was not on my reading list until it became a real hit. It's highly personal and not a topic I am particularly interested in. I feel that perhaps Westover wrote this book too soon. It seems like the story we're reading is the one she's built on purpose to make sense of everything that happened to her. I imagine she still has a longer journey to really process it all and what it means. And, when the book concludes, things are largely unsolved with her family. However, Westover's story of struggle has inspired a lot of readers, including me. Besides, from this book I have a better understanding that education is really an important process of self discovery—of developing a sense of self and what you think.

(2025·武汉常青联合体期末)The Mona Lisa is the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting of a woman with a mysterious smile. This week, the woman parted her lips to whisper an ancient secret.
Scientists using X rays to examine the chemical structure of a small part of the painting discovered a technique Leonardo used in the work. An oil paint used for it was a special, new chemical mixture, which suggests that the Italian artist was in an experimental mood when he worked on the painting in the 16th century.
“He loved to experiment, and each of his paintings is completely different technically,” said Victor Gonzalez, a chemist who has studied the chemical element of several works by Leonardo and other artists. The researchers found a rare lead compound (铅化合物)—plumbonacrite, in Leonardo's first layer of paint. The discovery proved that da Vinci most likely used lead oxide to thicken and help dry his paint. The paint in the study is about the thickness of a human hair, lying in the top right area of the painting.
The scientists looked into its atomic (原子的) structure using X rays, moving particles at the speed of light, permitting researchers to look deeper into the paint structure. “Plumbonacrite is really a fingerprint of his recipe, as it's the first time we can chemically confirm it,” Gonzalez said.
Rembrandt, the Dutch master, may have employed a similar blend in his 17th century paintings. Gonzalez and fellow researchers have also detected plumbonacrite in his art. It's believed that Leonardo used lead oxide powder, which has an orange color, to thicken his oil paint and speed up drying. “What you will get is an oil that has a very nice golden color,” Gonzalez said. “It flows more like honey.”
But the Mona Lisa—said by the Louvre to be a portrait (肖像) of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine silk businessman—and additional works by Leonardo still have other secrets to tell. “What we are saying is just a little brick in the knowledge,” Gonzalez said.

(2025·南阳高一月考)Shi Wenlan said the only thing that interests her is dealing with smelly centuries old books. “I don't want to drink. I don't want to eat or move. I like sitting alone under the warm lights, mending holes and cutting pages. I'm a boring person, but I'm doing an interesting thing,” she said. In the past 26 years, the 51 year old restorer (修复师) of ancient books at the Hunan Library in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, has brought about 100,000 pages of ancient books back to life. Her work helps to ensure that ancient knowledge can be read and appreciated by people today. Shi has great faith in her little known job. “Ancient books are precious documents and important achievements of Chinese civilization. To restore them is to rescue cultural relics that are dying out,” she said.
Books age and decay (腐烂) over time. Though technology, such as accurately controlled temperatures and humidity levels, can be used to slow the process,a number of old books are on the edge of withering_away forever, experts said. At the Hunan Library alone,a third of its 680,000 ancient books are in urgent need of restoration, which means each of its eight restorers needs to complete 3,000 pages a year, said Liu Xueping, director of the library's special collection department. More young restorers must be trained to promote the production of ancient books,so human civilization can be preserved despite the damage of time, experts said.
In recent years, the government has attached great importance to the restoration of ancient books and has put forward many policies to encourage more people to take up the work. The number of restorers has now reached about 1,000.They have better educational backgrounds and receive more systematic training,as well as better salaries and higher social status,Shi said.

(2025·牡丹江共同体期末)Confucius (孔子), a famous teacher, was a politician and philosopher (哲 学 家 ) who lived in “Spring and Autumn Period”.During his lifetime, he planted the seeds for China's complete change by teaching thousands of people.Today, he is thought to be one of the world's greatest teachers.

He didn't like the way rulers treated their people. He wanted to find a way to help people who were less fortunate than he was.Later, he founded the philosophy “Confucianism”.Confucianism states that by educating yourself, loving your family, and respecting tradition you could become a better person.Confucius believed a person could achieve these things by practicing self discipline (自 律).For the rest of his life, Confucius traveled and taught the people of China about self discipline and the importance of education. He even opened China's first school that taught both the poor and the wealthy as equals.Although he became very famous among China's lower classes, the rulers of China never accepted his teachings.Eventually, his philosophy of self discipline helped China unite under one ruler and finally find peace.Today, Confucius is celebrated all over the world for his philosophy of education, equality, and peace over war, money, and injustice.

[1]As a child growing up in China, I was always fascinated by Kunqu, a traditional Chinese opera originating in the Ming Dynasty, also listed as the world's intangible cultural heritage. I would often watch the traditional performances with awe, enchanted by the grace and elegance of the performers on stage.
[2]Though I loved Kunqu, I never thought I could learn it, believing it was something only the most talented and experienced could master. However, one day, my friends invited me to attend a grand Kunqu performance in Suzhou, China, which really made me feel an urge to take on the challenge and learn it.
[3]However, my journey learning Kunqu was not easy. I had to learn the basics of the ancient art form, from the complex techniques used to create the unique vocal style to the complex hand gestures that added a sense of elegance and grace to the movements. It was not just a matter of physical training; I needed to understand the rich history and cultural significance that Kunqu represented.
[4]My first few lessons were rough and I found myself struggling to keep up with the pace of the class. I was disappointed that I couldn't match the other classmates' skill level, and I found myself feeling discouraged. However, with countless efforts and dedication, I gradually saw improvements. My voice became stronger and more expressive, and my gestures flowed more naturally. I was fascinated by the subtle differences of the style, and began to develop a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Kunqu.
[5]As I spent more time immersing myself in the world of Kunqu, I began to appreciate the depth of knowledge that went into each performance. Everything from the beautiful make up and costumes to the props (道具) and music was carefully chosen to convey a particular mood or theme. I studied the classical texts that formed the basis of the Kunqu opera, from The Song of the Pipa Player to The Peony Pavilion, working hard to understand the distinction of language and meaning within each work.

Earlier this year I was asked to design a sculpture for London's first step free trail (无台阶步道) with Whizz Kids, the UK's leading charity for young wheelchair users. It was an offer I couldn't possibly refuse, considering the trail is a way to increase public awareness about the need for wheelchair users to be mobile and included in society, through the power of art. It was also something that seemed extra important to me, as art isn't always something accessible to me as a disabled person.
I was born in a working class family in 1969.We never had much money, so getting hobbies was difficult. But Mum and Dad always made sure that I had something to draw on. As a child, I often lost myself in drawing in our small house. However, a bad illness caused me to be paralyzed at 11, ending up in a wheelchair. Still, during these dark moments I learned to escape through art. Fortunately, I recovered enough to go to art college.
It was when a friend recommended a painting tool to me in my thirties that my life as an artist totally changed. It changed the way I made art, as I could effectively create art digitally. The art poured out of me. Things moved so quickly that after just four months, my work on my personal experiences as a disabled person was shown in a group show in America.
And this led me to work with groups of disabled people, so I could use this tool to make art about the stories I was being told. I was not giving them a voice, but it was they who gave me a voice, so that I could make public art about disability. Eventually, I hoped art would change public policy. I hope thousands of disabled people will be able to take part and enjoy the wonderful art on show, and I know it is a celebration of them and their lives.

A poem is defined as a composition written in verse. Poems rely heavily on imagery, precise word choice, and metaphor (隐喻), and may take either the form of measures consisting of patterns of stresses or of patterns of different length syllables. But they don't necessarily make use of rhyme. Poetry appears earlier than other forms of literature;however one cannot readily tell the characteristics of early poetry. Typically, as a form of literature, poetry makes great use of the forms of the words it uses. That is to say, it focuses on the features of the written or spoken word, rather than on their meaning.
The play, or drama, is another classical literary form that has continued to develop over the years. It generally consists chiefly of a dialogue between characters and is usually for theatrical performances rather than for reading. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, opera developed as a combination of poetry, drama, and music. An essay consists of a discussion of a topic from an author's personal point of view. The word “essay” in English is from the French word meaning “attempt”.In this sense, it could be said to mean the author's attempt to make others accept their view.
Prose (散文) consists of writing that does not stick to any particular formal structures. Prose writing can take beautiful forms, but not because of the forms of words it uses.
A novel consists simply of a long story written in prose, yet this form has only developed comparatively recently. Early novels in Europe did not, at the time, count as significant literature, perhaps because “mere” prose writing seemed easy and unimportant. It has become clear, however, that prose writing can provide pleasure to those readers even though it doesn't stick to poetic forms.

In 1812, the year Charles Dickens was born, there were 66 novels published in Britain. People had been writing novels for a century—most experts date the first novel to Robinson Crusoe in 1719—but nobody wanted to do it professionally. The steam powered printing press was still in its early stages; the literacy (识字) rate in England was under 50%.Many works of fiction appeared without the names of the authors, often with something like “By a lady”.Novels, for the most part, were looked upon as silly, immoral or just plain bad.
In 1870, when Dickens died, the world mourned him as its first professional writer and publisher, famous and beloved, who had led an explosion in both the publication of novels and their readership and whose characters—from Oliver Twist to Tiny Tim—were held up as moral touchstones. Today Dickens' greatness is unchallenged. Removing him from the pantheon (名人堂) of English literature would make about as much sense as the Louvre selling off the Mona Lisa.
How did Dickens get to the top For all the feelings readers attach to stories, literature is a numbers game, and the test of time is extremely difficult to pass. Some 60,000 novels were published during the Victorian age, from 1837 to 1901; today an unconcerned reader might be able to name a half dozen of them. It's partly true that Dickens' style of writing attracted audiences from all walks of life. It's partly that his writings rode a wave of social, political and scientific progress. But it's also that he rewrote the culture of literature and put himself at the center. No one will ever know what mix of talent, ambition, energy and luck made Dickens such a well known writer. But now it is possible—and important for our own culture—to understand how he made himself a lasting one.

One possible version:
Traditional Culture Lighting Up the Campus
To promote our understanding of traditional culture and arouse our interest and enthusiasm, last Saturday our school launched a campaign, with the theme of “Traditional Culture into the Campus”.
Various activities were organised, such as learning local operas, paper cutting and Chinese calligraphy, attracting a wide range of participation of the students. Many inheritors were also invited to show the intangible cultural heritage. Besides, an essay competition was held, where the students shared their own ideas and stories about traditional culture.
The campaign turned out to be a great success, from which all the students benefitted a lot. It has not only given us an insight into our cultural heritage, but also made us realise that it is our responsibility to preserve and promote the traditional culture.
第二节(满分25 分)
阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A couple of months before I started high school, my parents gave me the greatest gift any teenage boy could ask for:a cellphone.I lived on that phone all summer with my face buried in its screen.I ignored my family and my surroundings.Being connected was more important than being present.
So, you can imagine my displeasure when I learned what my dad had planned for our family vacation that year.“This year,” my dad said, “we'll be doing something special. We're going camping!” His excitement was met with a disappointed sigh.It wasn't my dream vacation because mind was on my phone.I was so buried in the screen, in fact, that the first time I can remember truly looking up was when we drove across a bridge on the way to our campsite.
I stared out the window and saw redwoods towering above us, their branches threatening to pierce (刺破) the blue sky.I saw a roaring river, with slivers of silky black water appearing between crashing white rapids. The air blowing into the car from the open windows was hot.But none of that mattered to me.The reason I had looked up was for something far more serious:my phone no longer had service.
The last hour of the drive was increasingly tense. My dad announced that he had chosen a campsite that had no cell service, and that my phone would be useless until we returned home.I would be trapped in the forest for four days with no way to contact the outside world! I went through the full cycle of teenage emotions during the first day of the trip.I raged.I bargained.I begged.I flip flopped (转变) from a depressive state to anger and back.
I went to bed angrily that night. But when I awoke in the morning, something had changed.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Instead of burying myself in my phone, I focused on something else:my surroundings.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next four days passed in a flash with many fun activities.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Instead of burying myself in my phone, I focused on something else: my surroundings. I let the noise of the wilderness wash over me, animals and bugs creating a ruckus that was both loud and serene at the same time.My anger turned to peace, then little interest and, finally, excitement.Standing on the high campsite, I felt the weight of stress melt from my shoulders as I viewed the vast expanse that unfolded below me.The sight that met my startled eyes nearly took my breath away. For the first time, I thought camping in a place that had no cell service might not be so bad.
The next four days passed in a flash with many fun activities.I hiked.I swam.I fished. My dad and I learned how to start a fire together after several false starts. We cooked together and I ate the sweetest marshmallows I had ever tasted.Dad told me stories of his life, stories I had never heard or perhaps I hadn't been listening. When the weekend came to an end, I realized I hadn't thought of my phone once.I hadn't felt the need to be connected to anywhere else.It dawned on me that what mattered most was the moments I was sharing with just my father and nature.Period 2 Grammar and usage
