16-year-old Freya from London used to love watching bees in her grandma’s garden. But two years ago, she learned that city bees were in great danger. Because of fewer wild flowers and more pollution, the number of city bees was dropping fast. She decided to do something to change it.
At first, she set up 10 beehives (蜂巢) on the top of her school’s building. She asked her science teacher to help her look after the bees. Every weekend, she would go to check the hives, collect the honey and clean the boxes. Later, she started a club called “City Bees” at her school. She taught other students how to look after bees, and how to plant flowers that bees love. She also gave talks to local shop owners, asking them to plant flowers outside their shops, instead of using pesticides (农药) that would hurt the bees.
Her club soon grew. Now, they have over 50 beehives across the whole city, and more than 200 students joined the club. Last year, they collected 500kg of honey, which they sold to local restaurants. The money they made was used to plant more flowers in the city parks.

Many people love getting close to nature, but few truly know how to explore it in a right way. Last Saturday, our school organized a nature exploration activity in a wild forest not far from our town. Before we set off, our guide Mr. Lee gave us an important talk. He told us that nature is not just for enjoying, but also for protecting.
When we walked into the forest, we were surprised by amazing views. Various wild plants grew everywhere, and many little animals moved quietly among leaves. Mr. Lee pointed out special plants and explained their living habits. He also taught us to tell different bird songs apart. We were asked to move slowly and keep our voices low, because loud noises would scare the wildlife away. We must never touch wild fruits or unknown plants, for some of them may be poisonous.
We spent nearly six hours in the forest. We wrote down what we observed and took photos carefully. No one picked flowers or hurt small creatures. This trip was more than just a fun outing. It helped us realize that human beings are part of nature. If we want to enjoy beautiful nature forever, we have to live in peace with all living things around us.
8.What did Mr. Lee ask the students to do first
A.Take as many photos as possible.
B.Learn to protect nature while exploring.

The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (京杭大运河) is one of the greatest ancient projects in China, just like the Great Wall. It is famous as the world’s oldest, longest and largest man-made canal in history. With a total length of about 1,794 kilometers, it runs from Beijing in the north to Hangzhou in the south.
The canal passes through six provinces and cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. It also connects five major river systems in China: the Haihe River, the Yellow River, the Huaihe River, the Yangtze River and the Qiantang River. People started to dig parts of the canal more than 2,500 years ago, and it was fully completed in the Yuan Dynasty.
In ancient times, the Grand Canal played a key role in China’s development. It was the most important north-south transportation channel. It mainly helped transport (运输) grain from the rich southern areas to the northern parts of the country. Besides, it greatly improved the communication of goods, cultures and people between northern and southern China, making many cities along the canal richer and more lively.
On June 22nd, 2014, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Today, the ancient canal is not just a historical relic (遗迹). It still works for us. Although my arm was tired, I felt warm inside. Helping others makes me happy. A small kind act can make a big difference. I will keep doing good things to help people in need.
