第一部分 教案
一、Basic Information
1.Topic: Welcome unit — Reading and Thinking
2.Duration: 45 minutes (1 period)
3.Grade: Senior One
4.Subject: English
5.Students’ Analysis
As new senior high school students, learners are curious about the brand-new senior high campus life and eager to acquire new knowledge and skills. In junior high school, students have mastered basic English reading strategies, simple discourse analysis methods and fundamental topic expressions. They are capable of understanding short and simple passages and finishing basic detail-locating exercises.
Nevertheless, students have prominent learning weaknesses. Firstly, they lack systematic topic vocabulary concerning senior high growth, learning attitudes, self-improvement and life planning. Secondly, they have difficulty in understanding long and difficult sentences, especially sentences with complex clauses, non-finite verbs and logical transitional structures. Thirdly, they cannot independently sort out discourse structure, summarize main ideas and dig out the writer’s true attitude and writing purpose. Fourthly, their writing expressions are monotonous with single sentence patterns, lacking advanced sentence structures and logical coherence. In addition, their deep reading and critical thinking abilities need to be improved urgently.
This lesson focuses on the core theme of new senior high start, opportunities and growth challenges. It aims to help students consolidate core vocabulary and fixed phrases, master standard hierarchical reading skills, sort out complete discourse logic, and realize the organic integration of reading input and writing output, so as to build a closed-loop teaching-learning-evaluation classroom system.
6.Core Competencies Objectives
(1) Language Competence
①Master and flexibly apply core vocabulary and fixed phrases in this unit: challenge, potential, opportunity, ambition, effort, advance, freshman, curious, rise to, keep an open mind, make the most of, take advantage of, devote oneself to, be responsible for.
②Identify, analyze and translate long and difficult sentences including compound sentences, adverbial clauses and non-finite structures, and grasp the internal logical relationship of complex sentences.
③Grasp three core reading strategies including skimming, scanning and intensive reading, accurately summarize the overall main idea and paragraph topics, and judge the writer’s attitude and viewpoint.
④Accumulate high-level sentence patterns and logical expressions in the text, complete sentence imitation and short paragraph creation, and realize efficient transformation from language input to practical output.
(2) Cultural Awareness
①Understand the positive growth concepts of teenagers in senior high stage, establish a rational cognition of opportunities and challenges, and form positive learning and life attitudes.
②Recognize the importance of self-management, self-improvement and active exploration in senior high study, and cultivate the spiritual quality of striving for progress and daring to challenge.
(3) Thinking Quality
①Cultivate information screening, induction and generalization abilities through hierarchical reading and text sorting training.
②Develop logical reasoning and critical thinking by analyzing the writer’s viewpoint and combining personal reality to think about senior high life planning.
③Establish macroscopic discourse thinking, master the basic framework of argumentative and expository passages, and improve text construction ability.
(4) Learning Ability
Master efficient English learning methods including classified vocabulary memorization, long-sentence step-by-step decomposition, hierarchical reading analysis, discourse framework sorting and reading-writing migration. Form a standardized learning mode of “preview-perception-intensive analysis-summary-migration application” to improve independent learning and comprehensive language application ability.

四、Teaching Reflection
Centering on the theme of senior high new start and growth, this lesson adopts hierarchical and progressive reading tasks, which conforms to students’ cognitive development rules. Most students can master core vocabulary and basic reading strategies, sort out the overall text structure, and complete basic reading exercises and sentence imitation tasks. The preset teaching objectives are basically achieved.
There are still some teaching deficiencies. A small number of underachieving students are weak in long-sentence decomposition and deep reading comprehension. Some students can only memorize sentence patterns mechanically and cannot flexibly apply advanced expressions to practical writing. Besides, the participation degree of group cooperative learning is uneven among students.
In future teaching, targeted special training for long-sentence analysis and deep reading inference questions will be increased. Gradient sentence imitation tasks will be designed to strengthen students’ reading-writing migration ability. Optimize group cooperation modes to ensure full participation of all students, so as to further optimize the teaching effect and improve the teaching-learning-evaluation integration system.
