Does it really matter if we know how old animals are To many scientists, it does.
When studying animal numbers, it is important for scientists to know how many animals there are and how old they are. This information can help scientists learn which animals are growing and which ones need more care and help. Scientists usually use the following ways to tell animals’ age. For many animals, their teeth can help scientists know their age. In some animals, some of their teeth don’t come in until a certain age. Then they have the next pair at the age of three, the third pair at the age of four.
Hair and skin (皮肤) can also give some information about animals’ age. Some animals get bad skin and grey hair as they get older. If you are keeping a dog, you may notice that its nose and mouth turn pink as it gets older.
Animals’ eyes and ears might also help scientists tell animals’ age. As animals get older, their hearing and their eyesight may become bad.

①When is the last time you ate without doing anything else Many of us eat while working, playing with phones, or walking around. Scientists call this “distracted eating”. Now we can eat anywhere, but this makes it easier to forget about our food.
②When Dillen, a professor at Leiden University, and her workmates do studies in the Netherlands, they find that about 70%-75% of people do other things while eating. This habit may be bad for our health. The studies show that when we don’t focus on eating, we often eat more and feel hungry again sooner. Over time, this can lead to weight gain.

④In one study, some people drink sweet water while working out tasks in a brain scanner (扫描仪). When the tasks are hard, they feel the sweet water is less sugary. Another study also finds playing difficult games makes food smell weaker.

He keeps asking his parents to 1 a dog for him”,迈克喜欢狗,一直让父母为他做某事得到一只狗,buy有“买”的意思,符合买一只狗给他的语境;carry是“携带”,send是“发送”,draw是“画”,均不符合文意,所以选buy。
根据前文“On Friday evening, Mike gets his dog.”
play with意为“和……
前文提到“They don’t want Mike to disturb (打扰) them”,后面说“Mike goes to play in his room”,前后是因果关系,so表示“所以”,符合逻辑;or是“或者;否则”,but是“但是”,because是“因为”,这里是结果在前,原因在后,所以用so。
根据语境“Fifi 6 the door of Grandma’s room, and begins barking (吠叫) at the door”,菲菲应该是跑到奶奶房间门口然后开始叫,runs to表示“跑向”;prepares for是“为……做准备”,puts up有“张贴;举起”等意思,works out是“解决;算出”,都不符合语境,所以选runs to。
根据“Mike tells him not to bark, but Fifi doesn’t 7 ”,迈克让菲菲不要叫,但是菲菲不停止,stop表示“停止”;talk是“谈话”,go是“去”,walk是“步行”,都不符合让狗停止叫的意思,所以选stop。
根据后文“and then he opens the door and sees Mike’s grandma on the floor”,可知迈克的爸爸觉得有什么事情不对劲。

Take cows for example, like humans, cows have two sets of teeth, milk teeth (乳牙) and permanent teeth (恒牙). They usually get their first pair of permanent teeth when they’re two years old.

③ ▲ When we eat, it usually takes our bodies 20 minutes to send “full” signals (信号) to our brains. But if we’re distracted, our brains are too weak to notice these signals well. We can’t feel how full we are and may not taste food properly when these signals are absent.
④In one study, some people drink sweet water while working out tasks in a brain scanner (扫描仪). When the tasks are hard, they feel the sweet water is less sugary. Another study also finds playing difficult games makes food smell weaker.
⑤Not enjoying food fully makes us unhappy. A relevant (相关的) study shows people like fun activities less when distracted. To feel better, they might eat more.
⑥So, putting down your phone during meals could help you eat less and enjoy more!
