Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
The exact location in France where Dutch master Vincent van Gogh painted his last work of art has been discovered.
A Dutch researcher figured out that a scene described in the artist's last work, Tree Roots, was visible on a postcard showing a man standing next to a bicycle on a back street of the village Auvers-sur-Oise.Vincent van Gogh spent the last weeks of his life in the village. Helpfully, the card even included the name of the street.
Researchers were given a unique glimpse (体验) into the famous painter's final hours. He was at work right up to the end.
Wouter van der Veen, scientific director of the Van Gogh Institute in France, made the discovery. While stuck at home, Wouter van der Veen used the extra time to organise the numerous files and documents on Vincent van Gogh, including images such as the old postcard from Auvers-sur-Oise. One day in late April, he saw the card on his computer screen and it suddenly struck him that he was looking at the location of Tree Roots. Next to the man and his bicycle, roots and trees are clearly visible. He took a virtual trip down the site using a map software.
“Villagers know the spot and the main tree root well, even giving it the name ‘the elephant’ because of its shape,” Wouter van der Veen said.“It was really hiding in overt sight.”
The discovery provides tourists with an extra reason to visit Auvers-sur-Oise.“They travel a lot just for one reason—to walk in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh. Now they can stand at the very place where he painted his last painting,” Wouter van der Veen said.“And that's a very moving thing for a lot of people. So I'm very happy to be able to share that with all those who love Vincent van Gogh.”
【解题导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了研究人员偶然间在一张明信片上发现了梵高人生中最后一幅画创作的地点。
1.What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A.What the postcard revealed.
B.How Tree Roots was discovered.
C.Why Auvers-sur-Oise became known.
D.Where Vincent van Gogh painted his works.
A 解析:段落大意题。根据第二段中的“A Dutch researcher figured out...street of the village Auvers-sur-Oise.”可知,第二段承接上文,主要描述这一发现的由来,即在一张明信片上发现了梵高最后一幅画中的场景。

3.What does the underlined word “overt” in paragraph 5 mean

C.Lovely. D.Strange.

A walk through the galleries of Quebec's Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) places individuals face to face with some 43,000 artworks ranging from Chinese ceramics to Inuit sculpture.
While the visiting is an incredible cultural experience, a group of local physicians will soon be able to prescribe (开处方) museum visits as treatment for some illnesses.
“We know that art contributes to neural (神经的) activity,” said MMFA director Nathalie Bondil.“What we see is that being in contact with art can really help your well-being.”
Hélène Boyer, vice president of a Montreal-based medical association, explains that museum visits have been shown to increase levels of serotonin (血清素), a neurotransmitter (神经递质) known as the “happy chemical” which helps to lift the mood.
According to Boyer, the small increase in hormones associated with enjoying an afternoon of art is similar to that offered by exercise, making museum visits prescriptions ideal for the elderly experiencing pain that prevents them from regularly joining in physical activity.
The museum visits are designed to improve traditional methods. As Bondil notes, spending time in a peaceful environment can provide a welcome distraction.“What is most important is this experience can help them escape from their own pain,” she says.“When you enter the museum, you escape from the speed of our daily life.”
“I am convinced that in the 21st century, culture will be what physical activity was for health in the 20th century,” said Bondil.“Some people would do well to recall that just in the 19th century, sports were believed to do harm to the body.Just as doctors now prescribe exercise, they will be able to prescribe a visit to the MMFA.”
【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了参观博物馆不仅能让人们受到艺术的熏陶,而且还能舒缓心情、治疗疾病。
5.What does Hélène Boyer think of museum visits
A.They can cheer people up.
B.They can reduce physical activity.

6.How do museum visits affect people
A.Stop them focusing on traditional methods.
B.Stop them concentrating on pain.
C.Encourage them not to be absent-minded.
D.Encourage them to slow their steps while walking.
B 解析:细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中的“What is most important ...escape from the speed of our daily life.”可知,参观博物馆可以让人们逃离痛苦。
7.What does the last paragraph suggest
A.Physical activity was popular in the 19th century.
B.Sports are considered to be harmful to the body.
C.Ideas of treating illnesses are changing over time.
D.Doctors prescribe museum visits regularly now.
C 解析:推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Some people would do well ...prescribe a visit to the MMFA.”可推知,治疗疾病的观念会随着时间的推移而改变。
8.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Museum visits are ideal for the elderly.
B.The happy chemical helps to lift the mood.
C.Peaceful environment helps escape from pain.
D.Cultural activities can promote health.

It was a Saturday afternoon. I was having lunch when Dad told me to get ready. I became unhappy. I don't like Saturdays! Even though it's a holiday for most children, it is not for me because I need to go to football club.
Many kids love sports, but I am not one of them. I prefer to stay at home and read. I don't like running, so in a team I am a bad player. The coach is tired of me and my teammates sometimes think I'm useless.
I have no idea how to play football. Usually, after practice my teammates would ask me to stay out of the game and I would just nod.
On a Thursday of last month, the coach told us that we would be competing with another team in a month and many people would come to see the game. Our opponents (对手) were the winner last year and I froze and thought how awkward it would be if the team lost because of me.
So I decided to practice hard for the match and I went to practice every single day.
After one month, when the game day came, my teammates were unwilling to take me in the team, and I also wished to stay away from the ground as well. But they happened to be short of one player and had no choice but to take me in the team.
Our team was the Big Blues. There was a great cheer on our arrival in the field. I got very nervous. The game started and within two minutes, I got a blue card. By the time I was allowed back, the score was two goals for each team and the next goal would decide the winning team.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
When the ball came towards me, I froze.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Our team, The Big Blues, won the match!________________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
When the ball came towards me, I froze. My teammates were very tired and seemed worried. The opponents rushed towards me. Without thinking anymore, I found courage, and I kicked the ball with all my strength. The opponents didn't think highly of me, so they didn't think that I would be able to kick the ball so powerfully. As I kicked, the goalkeeper jumped towards the ball but missed it.
Our team, The Big Blues, won the match! All my teammates ran towards me to lift me in the air. Since that day, I have gained some confidence and started to play better. My coach and teammates are also content with me and they try to improve my skills every time I play. Now I have realized that I always liked this sport, but my problem with it has something to do with the lack of encouragement I got. Now I can build on my confidence and I've realized I can also play this sport very well.INCLUDEPICTURE "英YLXZXBXYUNIT3.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "../../英YLXZXBXYUNIT3.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT

B.Van Gogh was one of the pioneers of the Impressionist paintings.
C.Paul Gauguin was greatly different from other painters in painting style.
D.Paul Gauguin was greatly influenced by Impressionism.
答案:1~4.ADAD
1.While it was hard to pick a favourite painting out of so many amazing works, the artists who made the deepest impression on me were two of the greatest Impressionist painters, Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.(Para.2)
[分析] 句中While相当于although/though,引导让步状语从句;who引导定语从句,修饰先行词artists; Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir是two of the greatest Impressionist painters的同位语。
[翻译] 虽然很难从这么多令人惊叹的作品中挑选出一幅最喜欢的画,但给我印象最深的艺术家是两位最伟大的印象派画家,克劳德·莫奈和皮埃尔·奥古斯特·雷诺阿。
2.It is also worthy of note that Post-Impressionist painters were not the only ones to be influenced by Impressionism—the movement has had a lasting influence on modern art, encouraging artists to look at the world from an entirely new point of view.(Para.6)
On June 3rd, I 1.visited(visit) the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, France, which features some of the best-known paintings from the Impressionist 2.movement(move) of the 19th century.
Of all the 3.artists(artist), Monet and Renoir made the deepest impression on me. Monet, painting mostly scenes from his garden, was 4.greatly(great) inspired by nature and his masterpiece is Blue Water Lilies. 5.However, Renoir preferred to paint scenes of everyday life, and his masterpiece is Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette.
In spite of 6.different(difference) settings, there were similarities, one of 7.which was that they tried 8.to break(break) away from the old style, not 9.focusing(focus) on details but on a brief “impression”. The Impressionists' vision not only had an influence 10.on Post-Impressionists but also on modern art.
1.Why do we need painting

ANCIENT CHINESE ART ON SHOW
The Richfield Museum of Fine Art is proud to present our new exhibition, “From Shang to Qing:Chinese Art Through the Ages.” Join us as we explore more than 3,000 years of wonderful art from the Middle Kingdom. From bronze bowls to ceramic vases, and jade sculptures to ink wash paintings, our goal is to display the Chinese artistic genius from ancient times.
The highlight of this exhibition is the painting Clearing After Snow on a Mountain Pass, one of the great works of Tang Yin (1470-1524). Born during the Ming Dynasty, Tang sought and failed to gain entry into the civil service, so he turned to painting instead. In time, he gained recognition as one of the greatest artists China has ever known. This painting, showing high mountains, trees, and houses covered in snow, was made with extraordinary skill. Though it is over 500 years old, it looks as fresh and full of life as the day it was created.
Also of primary note is a collection of nearly 100 bronze objects from the Shang Dynasty (1600 BCE-1046 BCE). While the artists who made these great works are not known, they showed great skill in creating these beautiful pieces. Some of the items on display are thought to have come from the collection of Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799), a great admirer of Shang Dynasty bronze.
Finally, we have many fine examples of Tang Dynasty (618-907) sculptures. Most of these are of Buddhist origin. Even though Buddhism entered China much earlier, it did not really begin to show expansion until the seventh century. During this same period, trade along the Silk Road also boomed. Chinese sculpture thus found itself highly influenced by Buddhist art brought from India and Central Asia through the Silk Road. These works were intended to spread Buddhism and they are of exceptional beauty and quality. Looking at the faces of the figures in these sculptures, one sees the faces of the past. History is brought to life.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
When Jason Allen submitted his “Thé tre D'opéra Spatial” into the Colorado StateFair's fine arts competition, the print was an immediate hit, defeating 20 other artists in the “digitally manipulated photography” category to win the first-place blue ribbon and a $300 prize.
Allen's piece offers a clear example of how rapidly AI-generated art has advanced. Trained on billions of internet images, the systems have decisively pushed the boundaries of what computers can create.
But it has also sparked a massive debate over the meaning of art, with Allen facing accusations that he had been deceiving with something he asked a machine to create.
Text-to-image tools like DALL-E 2 and Midjourney have quickly increased in sophistication and have become one of the hottest topics in AI. They can generate not just fake people, objects and locations but mimic entire visual styles.
But AI-generated art has been criticized as automated plagiarism (剽窃), because it relies on millions of ingested art pieces that are then parroted (机械地重复) together. It has also fueled deeper fears: blurring the boundaries of reality or interfering with human art.
Allen said his art piece shows people need to “get past their denial and fear” of a technology that could give rise to new inventions and reshape our world. “The AI,” he said, “is a tool, just like the paintbrush is a tool. Without the person, there is no creative force.”
Jessica Hair, a 25-year-old receptionist at a doctor's office who won third place in the competition, said she did not feel as if Allen had acted unfairly and had no hard feelings about his win.
Hair said her “Judge, Jury, Executioner”, which depicts a tuxedoed skeleton on a golden throne surrounded by skulls, took 15 hours to create with a stylus (触屏笔) on a tablet computer. But Allen's piece took time, effort and subjective judgment, too, and “how do we qualify what is and isn't art?” she said.

Can animals be artistic Some experts think so. Painting and music are part of efforts to keep animals happy at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Zookeepers there believe that animals need enrichment just like people do.
A sloth bear (长毛熊) called Francois is one of the National Zoo's artists. He began his artistic career two years ago. Francois has a very unusual way to paint. He uses his breath to paint. His zookeeper, Stacey Tabellario, says that although the technique may look strange, it is actually a very natural behavior for sloth bears. They have got big lungs and they can breathe out a huge amount of air. The zookeepers fill one of those tubes full of paint and ask them to breathe through it. And they blow all of the paint onto the canvas (画布), making these really cool paintings.
Animal artists come in all shapes and sizes at the National Zoo. They use many kinds of techniques to create their works of art. Apes use paintbrushes. Many use their paws or claws—much like a human painter would use his or her hands.
Stacey Tabellario says Francois seems to enjoy expressing himself through his art. “When I set up the materials for painting activity, he comes and sits next to them and waits until we are ready to start painting. He does that every time. I also see where his eyes go. He does see the paints come out of the tube and land on the canvas.” But not every animal wants to paint.
Music is another part of the arts enrichment program. Physically and mentally stimulating (有趣味的) activities are an important part of the daily care of the animals. Trainers have a lot of tools, from tablet computers to small toys.
Kenton Kerns says the program helps the animals and the zookeepers in many ways. Every interaction between keepers and their animals creates some sort of connections. The one-of-a-kind works of art created by the animals are popular with zoo visitors. Many are sold at the zoo's fundraising events.

Timed-entry Passes Prevent National Parks from Being Loved to Death
Adapted from The Washington Post 2024.06.19
Overcrowding has become a serious problem for some of the most popular parks. In addition to risks this creates for the parks' wildlife, ecosystems and man-made infrastructure, the sheer stress—traffic jams, fights over parking spots, congested hiking trails—can spoil what should be a relaxing time in the great outdoors. Park rangers sometimes spend more time directing traffic than on duties that actually enhance visitors' experience.
The National Park Service(NPS) is responding by managing the flow of people through the parks with timed-entry reservation systems. About a dozen of the most popular destinations now require booking in advance. The federal government's travel-planning platform, Recreation.gov, issued more than 2 million timed-entry passes last year, as well as 1.5 million permits and 4 million camping reservations. Recent experience at Yosemite National Park in California illustrates the need: Yosemite established a timed-entry system to deal with a surge of outdoor recreation seekers. When it discontinued it last year, the park experienced gridlock, so it resumed the reservation system this year.
The latest to join the trend is Rocky Mountain National Park, just outside booming Denver. Last month, the NPS announced that Rocky Mountain, where annual visits exceeded 4 million in 2023, up by about a million from 2013, will institute a permanent timed-entry reservation system this summer. The purpose is to spread entries out across the day and throughout the park during the high season from late May to mid-October. The NPS acted only after testing the concept in pilot programs for three years.
However, some thought it be a deliberate strategy to keep the public out of parks. Besides, reserving online can be a trouble, especially when the internet turns slow.
Valid though the criticisms might be, the essential trade-off remains: maximizing access to the parks vs. preserving their quality. Properly designed reservation systems can help strike the right balance. Parks took steps to maximize flexibility for visitors. What's better smart crowd management at big-name parks might steer more traffic to underutilized gems.

美国南北战争时期,一个普通家庭的四个姐妹的成长之路。
Jo was the first to wake up① on Christmas morning. No presents② were next to the fireplace, and for a moment she felt disappointed as③ she remembered long ago when she would awake to find presents filling④ the sitting room. Then, she remembered her mother's promise, and went to wake her sisters.
“Where is Mother?” asked Meg, as she and Jo ran down the stairs.
“Some poor children came here begging for⑤ your mother's help, and she went right away to see what⑥ the children needed.I've never met another woman so generous⑦,” replied Hannah, who⑧ had lived with the family since Meg was born, and was considered⑨ by them all more as a friend than⑩ a servant.
“She will be back soon, so let's finish getting breakfast ready,”said Meg.
“Now there's Mother coming. Hide the gifts, quick!”cried Jo, as the door opened.
“Merry Christmas, Marmee!”they cried together.
“Merry Christmas, little daughters! Now, I want to ask you something before we sit down for breakfast. Not far away from here lies a poor woman with a newborn baby. Six children are freezing together in one bed, for they have no fire. There is nothing to eat over there, and the oldest boy came to tell me they were suffering from hunger and cold. My girls, will you give them your breakfast as a Christmas present?”
They were all quite hungry, and for a minute no one spoke, but Jo soon exclaimed ,“I'm glad you came before we began eating!”
“I thought you'd do it,” said Mrs. March, smiling with satisfaction.“We shall all go, and when we come back, we will have bread and milk for breakfast.”
They were soon ready and began their walk to see the sick woman and her children. A poor, miserable room it was, with broken windows, no fire, a sick mother, crying baby, and a group of pale, hungry children crowded together to keep warm.
Hannah brought wood for the fireplace.Mrs. March gave the mother tea and porridge (粥) and comforted her with promises of help while she dressed the little baby tenderly (温柔地) as if it had been her own . The girls prepared the table and set the children near the fire, feeding them, laughing and talking. That was a happy breakfast, though they didn't eat any of it. When they went away, leaving comfort behind , they were the merriest (最快乐的) girls, and were quite content with bread and milk on Christmas morning.
After returning home, the girls prepared their presents for their mother. Mrs. March was both surprised and touched by receiving the gifts. The slippers (拖鞋) went on her feet immediately and a new handkerchief (手帕) was put in her pocket, well scented (使具有香味) with Amy's perfume (香水) that was in a fancy bottle she purchased instead of the pencils she had planned to buy for herself.
The morning events took so much time that the rest of the day was spent preparing for the evening play, as the family was not wealthy enough to afford going to the theater. On Christmas night, twelve neighbor girls sat on one of the family beds to watch the performance.
The guests watched in wonder ,sometimes laughing, crying, or looking astonished at the events in the story. At the close of the performance, they cheered and clapped eagerly . Soon after, Hannah came in to announce that dinner was ready.
This extraordinary meal was a surprise to all, and when they saw the table, they looked at each other in amazement . It was not surprising that Marmee would find a way to surprise the girls with a treat , but such a fine meal as this was never had, since the start of the war. There was ice cream, cake, fruit, chocolates, and in the middle of the table were flowers! They stared at the table in wonder before turning to their mother, looking pleased .
“Our neighbor, old Mr. Laurence sent this to us,”Mrs. March began.
“The Laurence boy's grandfather! I don't know what made him think of doing such a thing. We don't know him!”exclaimed Meg.
“Hannah told one of his servants about your breakfast party. He is an odd (奇怪的) old gentleman, but that pleased him. He knew my father years ago, and he sent me a polite note this afternoon, saying he hoped I would allow him to send you all a little present.”
“His grandson told him to do it.I know he did! He's such a wonderful young man. I wish we could know him better. He looks as if he'd like to know us, but he's shy.”
“I like his manners and he looks like a little gentleman, so I would certainly like to know him better,”declared Amy.
“Yes, we'll have another play sometime that he can come to see. Perhaps he'll help act. Wouldn't that be wonderful?”
“How pretty these flowers are!” exclaimed Meg as she began examining them with great interest.
“They are lovely!”returned their mother.
“I wish I could send some to Father. I'm afraid he isn't having such a merry Christmas as we are,” said Beth quietly.

维度四 融合教材·主题探究
【改编自人教选必三U1】
The Middle Ages (from the 5th to the 15th century)
During the Middle Ages, the purpose of Western art was to teach people about Christianity. Thus, artists were not interested in painting realistic scenes. Their works were often primitive and two-dimensional, and the main characters were often made much larger than everyone else to show their importance. This began to change in the 13th century with Giotto di Bondone (1267-1337). While his paintings still had religious themes, they showed real people in a real environment. In particular, his paintings are set apart from other paintings by their realistic human faces and deep emotional impact.
The Renaissance (from the 14th to the 17th century)
New ideas and values gradually replaced old ones from the Middle Ages. As a result, painters concentrated less on religious themes. They began to adopt a more humanistic attitude to life. An important breakthrough during this period was the use of perspective by Masaccio (1401-1428). Influential painters such as Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), Michelangelo (1475-1564), and Raphael (1483-1520) built upon Giotto and Masaccio's innovations to produce some of the greatest art that Europe had ever seen.
Another innovation was the use of oil paints. With their deep colours and realism, some of the best oil paintings look like photographs. While painters as early as Da Vinci had used oil, this technique reached its height with Rembrandt (1606-1669), who gained a reputation as a master of shadow and light.
In subject matter, the emphasis increasingly shifted from religious themes to people and the world around us. Kings, nobles, and people of high rank wanted to purchase accurate pictures of themselves and the people they loved. Others wanted paintings showing important historical events or stories from mythology. Finally, most clients wanted paintings that were beautiful and interesting to look at.
1.When did painters concentrate less on religion
A.From the 5th to 15th century.
B.From the 14th to 17th century.
C.From 1452 to 1519.
D.From 1606 to 1669.

A.They began to paint religious scenes in a more realistic style.
B.They began to focus more on religion than on humans.

4.Which of the following is NOT the things the rich people paid artists to paint

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2025·成都七中期中)Benjamin West, the father of American painting, showed his talent for art when he was only six years of age. But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one. In those days, a brush was made from camel's hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some fur from the family cat to make a brush.
The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged (蓬乱). His father said that the cat must be sick. Benjamin was forced to admit what he had been doing.
The cat's lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin's cousins, Mr. Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed with Benjamin's innovative drawings. When he went home, he sent Benjamin a box of paint and some brushes. He also sent six engravings (版画) by an artist. These were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes Benjamin had ever seen. In 1747, when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr. Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his gift. He asked Benjamin's parents if he might take the boy to Philadelphia for a visit.
In the city, Mr. Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin's awe-inspiring works and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull. Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said,“Those two books were my companions by day, and under my pillow at night.” While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist.

Lately, one of the hot-button topics in the art world is artificial intelligence (AI). Some people see AI as a means for democratizing creativity. It allows individuals of any skill level to produce stunning pieces quickly and without the expense of some more traditional art. This enables more people who would otherwise be limited by financial challenges to generate work.
AI is also proving beneficial for the business side of the art world. Because it can be created at a lower price than traditional art, those who couldn't afford to buy art now have more options. Due to its access to data from countless sources, AI can assist in authenticating (鉴定) artworks by analyzing different stylistic elements. Collectors and investors can assess the value of artwork using AI, and the list goes on.
But it's not all roses. Some worry that AI lacks the emotional depth that human-created art offers. Plus, as AI learns from user inputs and copies artistic styles, determining the rightful owner of AI-generated content has become increasingly problematic. It relies primarily on algorithms (算法) and pre-existing artworks, so there isn't much creative input. There is also the concern of artists losing work and profits to AI. Because AI drives prices down for art collectors, artists are concerned that making a living as an artist will become completely impossible.
All of these above points ultimately bring us to the big question: Is AI art really art Like every industry, the art world needs to embrace technological advancements or it will get left behind. While some think of art from AI as a valid form of creativity, others feel that AI can't truly be classified as art because it lacks the element of human creativity. It's true that the line between art created by AI and human art is getting less distinct. But from where most artists stand, the fact that non-AI art will always require human touch and thought process points to the fact that it can never be completely replaced by AI.

(2025·河南期中)For the creative-minded, snow represents a large blank canvas (空白画布) for art. But often, it's limited to snowmen or other snow statues. Simon Beck had a different idea, and over the course of a decade he has carved a path for himself in the snow art world. He creates large land art by walking across soccer-field-sized areas covered in untouched bined with light and shadows (影子), his artistic designs can only be fully appreciated when viewed from above.
Beck, a former map maker, turned into a snow artist, thanks to his decision late in life to pursue his hobby.
“It started just as a joke one day really,” Beck explained. “After skiing one day, I decided to make a drawing on snow to seek pleasure...”
“I really had no idea how good it would look when I made that first drawing, but it really went beyond my expectations,” he said of his first-ever creation that he looked down at from a ski lift.
To create this work, Beck stepped his way through the snow using only snowshoes and a ski pole for measurement with nothing else but the image of a design idea in his head. It was not challenging at all due to his previous work experience. But as his designs developed and became more complex, Beck said he began to start drawing them on paper first.
Beck's drawings have become a huge hit since his work was first shared.
“Most of the time I had been doing failed careers, and people around me are asking what's the quickest way of getting rid of this person,” Beck said. “And for the first time, I felt people actually wanted me. I felt like a more valued member of society.”

(2025·镇江一中期中)Ancient Chinese paintings are always in a vivid state for the world to appreciate, interpret and pass on. Each signature has the echo of history and the breathing of time.
When a scroll (卷轴) is opened, the art of painting is transformed into a living story, and the hidden history wakes up from the painting. The Night Revels of Han Xizai is described as the earliest human “movie” with the last emperor of Southern Tang as the “producer”, the painter Gu Hongzhong as the “cameraman”, and Han Xizai as the “leading actor”. It is said that Han Xizai understood the suspicion of the emperor and the intention of the painter's visit, so he staged a banquet (宴会) with songs, dances and drinks to protect himself. Future generations would be able to feel the undeclared battles and historical suspicions of the ruler and ministers of that era through this painting.
Then there is The Emperor Taizong Receiving the Tibetan Envoy, which gives you the opportunity to step into Zhenguan Period and watch the scene of Li Shimin, Emperor Tang Taizong, receiving Lu Dongzan in the palace.
The paintings are used as brushes to record history and have been passed down for thousands of years. They are ancient paintings, as well as historical documents that can be read at any time. Each one of them is a parallel universe, allowing us to have a glimpse of those historical ups and downs.
People of later generations want to use advanced technology and innovative ideas to make history and its stories come alive. Thus, at the 2022 Spring Festival gala, Only This Green, based on the painting A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, became a hit. We realize that pictures can not only be vivid on paper, but also be alive in 3D.
Ancient paintings have been appreciated for over a thousand years, and the beauty of China is more than landscapes. You can enjoy China in ancient paintings with a magnifying (放大) glass. Let's enjoy the whispering of ancient paintings and the sweetness of traditional culture in ancient scrolls.

It's Paris Fashion Week and the streets of the city are filled with designers, models and journalists. Among the crowds, eagle-eyed experts are taking careful notes. Their job is to detect emerging trends. Their notes will instantly be added to selected “trend forecasts”, which will be sold to designers, who will use them to inspire new pieces. Traditionally, these fashion forecasters have relied only on such methods to make predictions.
But as artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have become increasingly powerful in the last decade, forecasting agencies are now turning to machine learning for help.
This is all welcome news for an industry worth about $2 trillion globally. Forecasts can have a big influence on the fashion industry's carbon footprint, which is responsible for at least 4% of all worldwide emissions. Designers will produce more of what will actually sell—at the moment, 25% of fashion products are unsalable, or not sold. Besides, using AI tools that can analyze millions of posts from around the world allows designers to look at fashion trends more globally.
But designers often feel insecure about relying just on the data provided by AI. “A few years ago, there were big indicators on social media of yellow being a trend,” says Francesca Muston, vice president of a trend forecasting company. “And if you had followed completely the social media data gathered by AI models, yellow pieces would seem to be a good investment. But how many people are really going to wear a bright yellow coat That's a brave fashion choice.” AI tools don't have their own aesthetic (审美的) viewpoint so they may not be able to satisfy people's desire for newness. “That's why we maintain a very strong creative viewpoint in our forecasting with a team of industry experts,” says Muston.
Dr. Michal Koren, a researcher, says, “The role of human experts in identifying trends will continue to be crucial even as AI and data-driven models become more accurate.”

[1]Chip was not willing to go to school. The only hour of his day that was bearable was science class. He used to think of science as a bunch of boring words in a textbook, but Mr. O'Dell changed all that.
[2]It started when Mr. O'Dell announced how students could get a good grade in his class—not by memorizing a lot of facts but by thinking. The students stared at him, either wondering what he was talking about or else marveling (惊叹) at the reddish brown hair surrounding his shiny bald head...
[3]Mr. O'Dell asked another question, “What common substance can take the form of a liquid, a solid, or a gas?”
[4]Nobody answered. The class just sat there, waiting for Mr. O'Dell to explain what that had to do with anything. Then Chip got it. The first liquid he thought of was water, and then ice. Ice is a solid. And when water gets superhot, it turns to steam. He wasn't sure if steam was a gas or not, but when nobody else spoke, Chip blurted out, “Water?”
[5]After that Chip could tell that Mr. O'Dell liked him. Chip liked him too—at least most of the time.
[6]The best part about science class was the field trips. Once when a student pointed out an ant, Mr. O'Dell put his nose down so close to watch that Chip expected an ant to climb right onto it and march up through the freckles (雀斑) to stare back at him through his gold-rimmed glasses. Another time, Mr. O'Dell had the whole class sit cross-legged in a circle to watch a chameleon (变色龙) change from brown to bright green. Anyone who wasn't paying close attention missed the important moment when it shot its long tongue and brought a fly back into its mouth.
[7]Mr. O'Dell had the students take detailed notes on each animal or insect they were observing. He added that the creatures ought to be right where they were, doing whatever they were doing.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。

One possible version:
The minute the lesson turned to science, Chip exploded with energy and enthusiasm. Not only did he take detailed notes, but he also got actively involved in the class interaction. His mind raced fast and he even managed to answer a question about chameleon. (微情节一:奇普的课堂表现) Mr. O'Dell nodded with a smile of approval, obviously satisfied with his class performance. Time passing by quickly, before Chip realized it, the class was coming to an end. Chip felt he had never been happier. (微情节二:奥戴尔先生对奇普的鼓励) Mr. O'Dell concluded the class by announcing the after-class assignment—everyone could choose one insect or animal to observe, record its daily activities, and eventually write an essay. In no time, Chip made up his mind and took immediate action. (微情节三:奥戴尔先生布置作业及奇普的反应)
Holding a chameleon, Chip rushed into the classroom, his eyes dancing with excitement. It was the first time that he had ever touched a chameleon in person. He marveled at how sensitive it was as it changed its color with the surroundings. (微情节一: 奇普的情绪变化) The following days, Chip was no longer unwilling to come to school. Instead, he was completely changed. He became the first to come and the last to leave. He took such good care of the chameleon, made great notes and consulted anyone available. (微情节二:奇普因变色龙而收获满满) His efforts paid off. When he presented his paper, everyone was amazed at its rich contents and accurate data. Mr. O'Dell even called it as an Encyclopedia. As it turned out, without Mr. O'Dell's guidance and innovative teaching, Chip would never have taken on a new look. (微情节三: 奇普顺利完成作业;定语从句) Inspired by Mr.O'Dell, Chip began to appreciate the harmony between human and nature.

(2019·全国卷Ⅰ完形填空)Every year about 40,000 people attempt to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.① They bring with them lots of waste. The crowds might damage the beauty of the place. The glaciers (冰川) are disappearing, changing the face of Kilimanjaro.②
Hearing these stories, I'm skeptical about the place—other destinations are described as “purer” natural experiences.
However, I soon discover that much has changed since the days of disturbing reports of camps among tons of rubbish.③ I find a clean mountain, with toilets at camps and along the paths. The environmental challenges are significant but the efforts made by the Tanzania National Park Authority seem to be paying off. ④
The best of a Kilimanjaro experience, in my opinion, isn't reaching the top.⑤ Mountains are regarded as spiritual places by many cultures. This view is especially evident on Kilimanjaro as climbers go through five ecosystems (生态系统) in the space of a few kilometers. At the base is a rainforest. It ends abruptly at 3,000 meters, giving way to lands of low growing plants.⑥ Further up, the weather changes—low clouds envelop the mountainsides, which are covered with thick grass. I count twelve shades of green from where I stand. Above 4,000 meters is the highland desert: gravel (砾石), stones and rocks. Finally you climb into an arctic-like zone with permanent snow and the glaciers that may soon disappear. ⑦
Does Kilimanjaro deserve its reputation as a crowded mountain with lines of tourists ruining the atmosphere of peace I found the opposite to be true.⑧ INCLUDEPICTURE "手.TIF" INCLUDEPICTURE "../../../手.TIF" \* MERGEFORMAT 背铺灰语料,积续写基石

W:You said a strange thing on our walk today. You said you love to see things rotting. I'm curious to know why you said that.
M:It's nothing to get excited about, but I'm happy to explain. Nature is so clever in the way it makes some things rot away to nothing and then creates new life from what is left over.
W:But why did you mention it on our walk We were in the forest at the time.
M:I saw some mushrooms growing on a fallen branch. They help recycle the dead wood, so that more trees and flowers can grow. It's a beautiful system.
W:Yes, nature is an expert recycler—and mushrooms can be as beautiful as flowers. Those little yellow ones were unusual—and do you remember the large orange ones Best of all were the red ones.
M:I could look at things like that all day. The subject really interests me. We'll have to walk there again next Friday.
W:Thursday would be better for me.
M:I can't make it then. I have booked an appointment at the dentist. What about Saturday
W:It's a date. We'll explore the magic of mushrooms.
(Text 10)
M:Dear Cathy, I know that you've had a lot of fun these years—going to picnics and parties, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't let you have. But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. Seven years ago you came into my world with all your curiosity and smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my business for myself didn't seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness. In the end, my girl, that's why I was so busy for a big career: because of what I want for you. I want you to go to schools worthy of your potential—schools that challenge you, inspire you, and instill in you a sense of wonder about the world around you. I want you to have the chance to go to college—even if we aren't rich. And I want you to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give you benefits like health care, jobs that let you spend time with your own kids and retire with dignity.

Born in the Netherlands in 1853, van Gogh led a simple life in a small town until the age of 16. He then left school and joined a firm of art dealers in the large city of The Hague. He eventually realized that dealing with others' artwork was not his profession. His true love was to become an artist himself.
He devoted much of his time to learning the fundamentals of drawing. Van Gogh believed that to become a great painter, one must first master the ability to draw. It was only after he was comfortable in this area that he began to use oil paints. That is when he developed a style and talent for color that made him one of the most respected artists of all time.
Van Gogh's paintings are amazing representations of his view of the world. The colors jump off the canvas, not only because of their brightness but also because of the brush strokes (笔画).Van Gogh avoided light, feathery strokes, which would portray (描写)typical subjects. Instead, he used his brush and oils to make layers that built the painting until it was almost three-dimensional.
Perhaps one of the most memorable examples of van Gogh's use of color and brush style is his painting The Starry Night. The sky swirls (打旋) across the canvas, while the stars shine with unearthly brightness. Each brush stroke creates the image of movement. Under the sky rests a village painted with smaller strokes and finer detail, giving the impression of peace. A large tree in the foreground suggests that the view is enjoyed from the top of a hill, which offers a glance of the beauty of the night sky. The Starry Night shows van Gogh's great ability to create a powerful image with simple subjects.
Van Gogh spent only the last ten years of his life painting. He is believed to have sold only one of the 900 paintings he created during those years. Yet van Gogh today is considered one of the greatest artists of all time. His influence is evident; many painters mimic his style and use of color. His artwork can be found in museums all over the world and is valued in the millions of dollars, an evidence for Vincent van Gogh's talent.

Pieter Bruegel the Elder's iconic 1565 painting The Harvesters hangs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The work shows people harvesting wheat nearly as tall as they were. “Nowadays, however, if you walk through a wheat field, you basically see that wheat is about knee-height. The reduced height is essentially a consequence of breeding (培育) along with genes for increasing production to feed a growing population,” biologist De Smet explained.
De Smet says wheat is just one example of how historical artworks can allow us to track the transformation of food crops over time. He teamed up with art historian Vergauwen, a friend since childhood, to document such artworks around the world. They have been mainly looking at things where they can spot changes in shape, color and size.
Their interest in plants in artworks began with a visit to the Hermitage Museum, where they noticed an odd-looking watermelon in an early 17th-century painting. It appeared to be pale and white on the inside. Biologist De Smet assumed the painter had done a poor job. But art historian Vergauwen had a different idea. “No. This is one of the best painters ever from that era. So if he painted it like that, that's the way it must have looked like,” he explained.
Other paintings revealed that both red and white watermelons were grown during the 17th century. “With all the genetic knowledge we now have, we can look in more details about how something comes about,” De Smet said. “For example, until the 18th century,European strawberries appeared tiny in paintings—they then grew in size as they were crossbred with North American varieties.”
Ultimately, the team hopes to create an online research database of historical plant artworks. They seek the contributions of art enthusiasts around the world via the social media. “However,” Vergauwen reminds,“if you're going to use, for example, Picasso to try and understand how a pear looked in the early 20th century, you might be misled.”

Chinese Paper Cutting or Jianzhi is the first type of paper-cutting design, since paper was invented in the Eastern Han Dynasty in China.
It's a unique visual art of Chinese handicrafts. The art form later spread to other parts of the world with different areas adopting their own cultural styles. After hundreds of years' development, now they've become a very popular means of decoration among country folks, especially women. The paper-cuts are also used to decorate doors and windows, and therefore they are sometimes referred to as “chuāng huā”,meaning Window Flower. Paper-cuts are chiefly used as decorations. However, today, Chinese paper-cuts are also used for ceremonial purposes.
Chinese people believe the red paper-cuts on the door can bring good fortune and happiness to the whole family. The paper-cuts are more often seen during traditional Chinese festivals, particularly in Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival. They're also given as gifts to friends or other family members.
Paper-cuttings aren't produced by machine, but by hand. There're two methods of manufacture:one uses scissors, the other uses knives. Knife cuttings are fashioned by putting several layers of paper on a relatively soft foundation. Following a pattern, the artist cuts the motif into the paper with a sharp knife he usually holds vertically (垂直地).The advantage of knife-cuttings is that considerably more paper cuttings can be made in one operation than with scissor cuttings.
It's easy to learn about cutting a piece of paper but difficult to master it with perfection. One must grasp the knife in an upright fashion and press evenly on the paper with some strength. Flexibility is required but any hesitation will damage the whole image.
People find hope and comfort in expressing wishes with paper-cuttings.For instance: for a wedding ceremony, red paper-cuttings are a traditional decoration on the tea set, the dressing table glass, and on other furniture. A big red paper character “Xi”(happiness)is a traditional must on the newly-wed's (新婚夫妇) door.

Dear Sir,
My name is Li Hua. I'm a Chinese student who is taking a summer course in London now. Learning that the Chinese painting exhibition will be held in your local gallery, I'm writing to apply for being a volunteer.
First of all, having learned English for many years, I have a good command of English, and I can communicate with others freely in oral English. Additionally, I was fond of fine art when I was a pupil, which made me have a good knowledge of many kinds of paintings, Chinese paintings in particular. Therefore, not only can I introduce Chinese paintings to visitors, but I can also convey the message behind the paintings. I'd appreciate it if you could take my application into consideration.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
