Last term, our school held its first drama festival. All classes prepared a short play, and my classmates chose me to play the leading role. At first, I felt extremely worried because I had never performed on stage before. I was afraid I would forget my lines or move nervously in front of the audience.
My drama teacher encouraged me not to give up. She told me that even professional actors feel nervous, and that courage comes from practice. I recited lines whenever I was free, practiced in front of my family, and recorded myself to improve my expressions and gestures.
On the night of the show, I waited backstage with my hands shaking. When the curtain opened, I took a deep breath and stepped forward. Soon I forgot my nervousness and focused completely on the role. The audience laughed at the funny lines and applauded warmly.
After the show, many people praised my performance. That night made me realize that nothing is impossible if you keep trying. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance and gave me much more confidence.

A young woman one day said something that hurt her best friend of many years. She regretted it immediately and would like to do anything to take the words back. What she had said hurt her friend so much that she also felt very painful. To make up what she had done, she went to an old wise man in the village and asked for advice.
The old man understood the young woman’s suffering. He knew he must help her. He knew he could never remove her pain, but he could teach. And he also knew the result would depend only on her character.
“Tonight, take your best feather pillows and put a single feather on the doorstep of each house in the village before the sun rises,” he said.
The young woman hurried home to prepare for it, even though the feather pillows were very dear to her. All night long, she made her efforts alone in the cold. Finally it got light and she placed the last feather on the step of the last house. Just as the sun rose, she returned to the old man.
“Now,” said the man, “go back and refill your pillows with the feathers you have put on the steps. Then everything will be as it was before.”
“You know that’s impossible! The wind blew away each feather as fast as I placed them on the doorsteps!” The young woman was surprised.
“That’s true,” said the old man. “Each of your words is like a feather in the wind. Once your words are spoken, no matter how much effort you make and how sincere you are, you can never return them to your mouth. Choose your words well and protect people you love from being hurt.”

This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became popular.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: “mountains and groupings of infinite (无限的) rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling (涟漪的) water”.
When the dancers moved elegantly, audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an exhibition. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. “More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still impress people as they did long ago.” Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows feature Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for the reason, it is due to people’s great love for traditional culture.
“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mind. They accept Chinese culture and are proud of it.” Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station’s Innovation Center, told China Daily.

In a little town, there lived a boy named Leo. Leo was a dreamer with a passion for art. He spent most of his days painting the landscapes around him, capturing the beauty of nature in his drawings. However, Leo was shy and often hesitated to share his work with others. He feared criticism and doubted his talent.
One day, the town announced an art competition, inviting artists of all ages to submit their work. The winner would have their artwork displayed in the town hall and receive a scholarship for art classes. The announcement ignited (点燃) Leo’s interest. This could be his chance to show his art to the world!
Despite Leo’s excitement, his fear returned. “What if I’m not good enough ” he thought. For days, he struggled with his doubts, but deep down, he knew he had to try. Encouraged by his mother, he decided to enter the competition.
Leo spent every free moment working on his piece. He chose to paint the impressive sunset over the hills, the colors reflecting the beauty he admired in nature. As he painted, he poured his heart into the canvas (画布), feeling a sense of freedom and joy. However, as the deadline approached, his insecurities returned. “What if people laugh at my work ” he thought carefully.
On the day of submission, Leo hesitated at the door of the gallery, holding his painting tightly. He took a deep breath and reminded himself of his mother’s words: “Art is about expressing yourself, not about pleasing others.” Gathering his courage, he stepped inside and handed over his painting.
The following week, the town gathered for the competition’s unveiling (揭幕). Leo felt a mix of excitement and fear as he watched other artists present their work. The gallery was crowded with people, and he couldn’t help but admire the creativity around him.
Finally, it was time for the winners to be announced.
