Do you always feel like there aren’t enough hours in a day Homework, hobbies, family time… How do you guys balance everything Please share your tips!
Tom, 14 1 hour ago
Actually, I don’t plan much. I just do one thing at a time. But I have learned to say “no” to things that waste time, like watching videos online. My rule is: finish the most difficult task first. The rest feels easier.
Emma, 13 3 hours ago
My problem is that I get distracted (分心的) easily by video games. So I made a deal with my mom: I can play games for 30 minutes only after I finish all my schoolwork. And I put my phone in another room when studying. It works like magic!
Sarah, 14 6 hours ago
I used to be a real couch potato. You know, I would just lie on the sofa after school, watch TV for hours, and put off my homework until late at night. That made me tired and stressed. Then I started using a simple rule: 50 minutes of study, then 10 minutes of break. Now I finish my work earlier and have more free time. No more couch potato life for me!
Leo, 15 7 hours ago
I make a to-do list every morning. I write down three most important tasks first. Once I finish them, I feel great. I never procrastinate (拖延) anymore because I break big tasks into small steps.

①Walk into the Beijing studio of Belgian designer Jehanne de Biollery. You will see beautiful long dresses with handwritten English words. At first, these dresses look very Western. But if you look closely, you will find four Chinese words: Miao Zu Shi Shi. They mean “old stories of the Miao people”. These words show the Chinese heart of the dresses.
②Jehanne was born into a rich family in Belgium in the 1960s. She became interested in making things by hand when she was five or six. At 18, she studied art history. Then she lived in London for over 12 years and ran an art shop there. In 1997, she moved to China. Her love for art brought her happiness both in work and in life.
③In 2021, Jehanne started a new creative journey. She went to Guizhou to get new ideas. “I arrived and saw beautiful handmade work right away, like embroidery (刺绣) and weaving (编织) by hand,” she said.
④Jehanne says that the handmade work in Guizhou has its own beauty and skill. It also shows the culture and traditions of the Miao people. Every part of Miao embroidery has a different meaning. “The history, culture, and beliefs are all in the weaving,” she added.
⑤The sewing of the Miao people has a long history. The Miao mainly live in southern China. Their sewing has lasted for over 2,000 years. It uses many different ways of stitching (缝合), which make it special.
⑥“What I love about Miao embroidery is that it tells the story of their beliefs and lives,” Jehanne said. “I want to show that beauty by creating my own collections. In this way, I bring the past into the future.”

①Meerkats are small animals that live in southern Africa. They look cute but are very tough. Many people know them from movies, but few really understand their special lifestyle. Scientists are interested in them because they live in highly organized groups.
②Unlike many other animals, meerkats don’t live alone. They live in family groups called “mobs”. A mob usually has 10 to 30 members. Each meerkat has its own job. Some work as sentinels—they stand tall, look around and warn the group if danger comes. Others look for food. Young meerkats learn skills from their adults.
③Meerkats have bodies that are ideally suited for their life. They have strong legs for digging holes, which they use as homes. Their dark circles around the eyes work like sunglasses, helping them see clearly in bright sunlight. They can even close their ears to keep sand out while digging. All these make them well suited to the dry, grassy land.
④Meerkats mainly eat insects, but they also eat small animals like snakes and even scorpions. Surprisingly, they are not harmed by scorpion venom (蝎毒). They have learned to bite the sting off quickly before eating. This talent helps them survive in places where few other animals can live.
⑤Living in groups makes meerkats strong. They help each other find food, care for babies and fight against enemies. No single meerkat could survive alone for long. This kind of teamwork is rare among small animals. But now, their living areas are becoming smaller and their safety is in danger. It’s time for people to take action to help them.

Imagine walking through a park at night—without any streetlights. The flowers and trees around you give off a soft, natural glow (微光). This may sound like a scene from a movie, but Chinese scientists are making it possible.
A biotech company called Magicpen Bio has created 20 kinds of glowing plants. They took genes (基因) from fireflies and glowing fungi (真菌) and put them into plant cells. As a result, the plants can give out a gentle light without using electricity. These are not new plant species. They are common flowers like orchids and sunflowers—but with a special ability to glow in the dark. The light is soft, similar to a nightlight, not as bright as a streetlight.
________ The founder, Li Renhan, hopes that one day, glowing parks and gardens could replace or reduce traditional lighting. This would save energy and change the way cities look after dark.
Researchers around the world have been working on glowing plants for years. In 2024, a glowing houseplant called “firefly Petunia” was sold in shops. However, it was expensive and its glow was not very strong.
However, Magicpen Bio’s work is different because of its large scale. The team is not just making a single plant for windowsills. They are thinking about lighting up whole public spaces—like the glowing forests in the movie Avatar. In the film, those forests shine with their own light, just like what the scientists dream of.
Of course, there is still a long way to go. The light is still too weak for street lighting. But with further research, these plants may one day help light up our cities, cut energy use, and make our world a little more magical.
42.How did scientists make the plants glow
A. They grew the plants on a special street.
B. They used electricity to light the plants.
C. They painted the plants with glowing colors.
D. They put genes from fireflies and fungi into plants.

A. To explain how to make plants glow brighter.
B. To compare the movie with the scientists’ goal.
C. To guide people to watch this interesting movie.
D. To show that glowing plants are already in nature.
45.What is the best title for the passage
A. Magicpen Bio: A Small Company
B. Avatar s Forests: A Real Scene
