Last month, I had a big misunderstanding with my deskmate, Lucy, which made me truly understand the unit theme “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and the importance of sincere communication. Lucy and I were good friends who shared everything, and we often talked about our strengths and weaknesses to know each other better — until a math group project changed everything.
I was responsible for writing the project report, and Lucy was in charge of making the PPT. We agreed to finish our parts before Friday, but when I asked her for the PPT on Thursday evening, she said she hadn’t finished it yet. I was so angry that I shouted at her, saying she was lazy and didn’t care about our project. I thought she just wanted to play instead of working, so I refused to listen to her explanation and didn’t talk to her for a week.
During that week, I found Lucy was always sad and even cried alone in the classroom. I felt a little guilty but was too proud to apologize. Finally, our math teacher told me the truth: Lucy’s mother was ill, and she had to take care of her after school every day. She even stayed up late to make the PPT and only didn’t finish it because she was too tired. She was afraid to tell me for fear of troubling me.
I felt extremely ashamed of myself. I ran to Lucy and apologized to her sincerely, telling her I should have listened to her first. She hugged me and forgave me at once. We finished the project together, and our friendship became even stronger. This experience let me know that “Knowing Me, Knowing You” is not just a sentence, but means listening, trusting and understanding each other in real life.
4. What was the author’s first reaction when Lucy hadn’t finished the PPT
A.He offered to help Lucy immediately.
B.He complained to their math teacher.

D.She wanted to play instead of doing the project.
6. Which of the following can best describe the author’s feeling after learning the truth

C.Ashamed and regretful.
D.Indifferent and calm.
7. What does the author mainly want to express through the text
A.The difficulty of getting along with deskmates.
B.The necessity of finishing school projects on time.
C.The importance of sharing everything with friends.
D.The value of sincere communication and shared understanding.

Sia Godika was 13 when she noticed the barefoot children of construction workers at a building site near her house. “Their feet were bare. Cracked! Dirty! Bleeding!” reflects Sia, now 17. “They were just walking around that building site.” And it was at that moment that Sia realized the troubling contrast to her own privilege.
“I went back home, looked at my own feet and thought. Wow, I’m 13 years old. My feet are so tender. These children are just seven or eight...”She describes opening her wardrobe doors and seeing shoes, many of which hadn’t been worn for months or years. Then she rushed to give them all away to the same children she saw at the building site.
Later that year, with the help of her parents and community volunteers, Sia founded Sole Warriors, a charity aimed at providing footwear to those in need, with the slogan: “Donate a sole, save a soul.”
After that, she spread the word with posters and WhatsApp groups, then enquires from people who wanted to help came flooding in. Now in its fifth year, the organization runs activities to collect used footwear, repairs it and donates the finished products to people in need.
In its first activity, Sole Warriors collected and gave out 700 pairs of shoes. Today that number reaches around 28,000 across the UK, the United States, China and Liberia, thanks to the hard work of a core team of about 80 volunteers.
But the organization’s growth also faced challenges. “Being a 13-year-old, I did encounter a lot of bias because at my age, people were less willing to hear me out,” says Sia.
In 2021, Sia was given the Diana Award, which was awarded by a UK-based charity of the same name. It’s one of the greatest honors a young person can receive for social action or humanitarian work. But her work is still on the road. “Our goal has always been to touch a million feet,” she says.
8. How did Sia feel when she saw the barefoot children at the first sight
A.Excited.
B.Confused.
C.Shocked.
D.Frightened.
9. What is the main purpose of Sole Warriors
A.To collect and sell used shoes.
B.To train volunteers in shoe repair.
C.To provide footwear for the needy.
D.To make posters and spread messages.
10. Which words can best describe Sia’s qualities
A.Open-minded and calm.
B.Warm-hearted and responsible.
C.Easy-going and honest.
D.Hard-working and humorous.
11. What can we infer from Sia’s future plan for Sole Warriors
A.She decides to retire from Sole Warriors soon.
B.She hopes to inspire more volunteers to join them.
C.She intends to focus on other humanitarian issues.
D.She aims to increase the number of collected shoes.

The 24 solar terms originated and were firstly used in China. They were created thousands of years ago on the basis of practical needs of agriculture. Ancient Chinese people used them to guide agricultural production, special climate signs and even healthy living tips.
The 24 solar terms were added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016. Now, they have been brought to life thanks to a creative designer from southwest China’s Guizhou Province.
On the eve of the Qingming Festival, Shi Changhong released his version of reproduced and packaged characters for each solar term in the form of “moving art” of GIFs. Since their first release on ZCOOL on March 29, the GIFs have won great praise among the general public and quickly flooded social media with millions of hits during the festival period.
To maximize publicity, Shi released his work in three forms: video, animation and picture. The background sounds add to the brilliance.
“When I watch the short video, I can strongly feel the Chinese-style elements hidden in them. And it is really cool to liven up traditional Chinese culture in such a unique way,” WeChat user Xiao Feifei said.
“It is really a comfort for me to see so many people like my latest work. To be frank, it would really surprise me if the work did not arouse great interest among Chinese people. The 24 solar terms are a deeply rooted concept that covers the essence of Chinese wisdom. However, only a small portion of people know all the names or the correct order of those terms. My intention is to increase Chinese people’s self-awareness to learn more about our traditional fine culture. Actually, the 24 solar terms work is only a part of my whole design program ‘Charm China’, which I started over a year ago,” Shi told China Daily.
12. What does the underlined word “ZCOOL” in paragraph 2 refer to
A.A newspaper.
B.A magazine.
C.A radio broadcast.
D.A website.
13. What can be inferred according to the text
A.The background sounds make the work more attractive.
B.Most people know all the names or the correct order of the 24 solar terms.
C.It really surprised Shi Changhong to see so many people like his latest work.
D.The 24 solar terms work designed by Shi Changhong was added to UNESCO’s heritage list.
14. What is the purpose of the passage
A.To introduce a creative designer.
B.To introduce the 24 solar terms GIF work.
C.To introduce the origin of the 24 solar terms.
D.To introduce the design program “Charm China”.
15. Which part of the newspaper does the text probably belong to
A.Travel.
B.Culture.
C.Agriculture.
D.Education.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was 15, my smartphone was like an extension of my hand. I’d scroll through social media for hours after school, stay up late watching short videos, and even check my phone during class.
I’d skip group activities with classmates to chat online, forget to help with housework because I was busy playing games, and even lie to my parents about how much time I spent on my phone. My grades dropped and my teacher Ms. Smith called my parents to express concern. My parents tried to talk to me, but I’d get defensive. “It’s just a phone!” “Everyone else uses it too!” I knew they were right, but I felt empty and anxious when I didn’t have my phone.
The turning point came during a weekend trip to my grandma’s village. My parents decided to leave our phones at home “to disconnect and reconnect”. At first, I was uncomfortable. I wandered around the village, feeling lost without my screen. But then my grandma asked me to help her pick vegetables in the garden. As I pulled carrots and picked tomatoes, she told me stories about her childhood — stories of climbing trees, playing with friends, and reading books by candlelight. I listened, fascinated, and for the first time in months, I didn’t think about my phone.
That afternoon, my cousin took me to a nearby river to fish. We sat on the bank for hours, talking and laughing as we waited for the fish to bite. When we caught a small fish, I felt a sense of joy I hadn’t felt in a long time. That night, we sat around the fire, eating roasted sweet potatoes and sharing stories. I realized how much I’d been missing by staring at my phone all day.
注意:
1. 续写词数150左右;
2. 两段开头已给出。
When we got home, I made a promise to myself.

The Spring Festival stands for reunion and hope. It reminds us to value family love and welcome a brand-new year. Thank you!
读后续写参考范文
When we got home, I made a promise to myself. I decided to control my screen time strictly. I set a rule that I could only use my phone for thirty minutes after finishing all homework each day. Instead of scrolling videos, I began to take part in outdoor sports with my classmates and help my parents with housework every evening. I also picked up storybooks that I had ignored for a long time. Whenever I felt eager to pick up the phone, I would go for a walk or chat with my family.
After a month, I noticed a big change. My grades went back up because I focused more on study at school. I built closer relationships with my parents and classmates as we spent more real time together. I no longer felt anxious without my phone. I finally understood that true happiness lies in real-life experiences rather than the virtual world on a small screen.
