Poshmark

Glen Keane was a Disney animator. He drew some of the world's most beloved characters. As he drew, his characters became more and more real to him, and yet, they were still limited to a 2D world. Right now, working with some of the latest technology, he is able to move his art into the magical world of virtual reality (VR).
As the artist behind some of Disney's most beloved characters, he has works that are familiar to us. For him, animation is more than just drawing. It is a process of bringing characters to life in a 2D world. This has always disappointed Glen. How can a flat page truly express a character "Well, what if I could draw them with the freedom of a sculptor " he thought. He wants to explore his artistic limits and create new worlds.
Here is where he finds his way to the magic of VR. Using a tool called Tilt Brush, now Glen can draw beloved life-size characters and open up an entirely new world for his art. A group of scientists have uncovered a simple log structure from the Stone Age that may be the oldest evidence yet of early humans building with wood. It's nearly half a million years old.
The leader Lary Barham and his team dug up the log structure-plus a handful of wooden tools - from a riverbed site that sits above a waterfall. They think the crossed logs could have been the base for a bigger structure like a walkway or a platform. It suggests that humans were more advanced than previously thought-and they were able to adjust to their environment and build structures to meet their needs-even in the harsh Stone Age world.
Usually, wood is rarely found at such ancient sites as it usually rots and disappears when it comes into contact with elements. But these materials stayed underwater, which helped protect them. So when the team uncovered the logs in 2019, they were still able to see telltale signs that early humans had shaped them. "Everything just looks so pristine, causing you to think, 'It can't be this old,'" Barham said.
Figuring out more details was challenging since traditional dating techniques couldn't get deep enough into the past. During the process, the scientists used a new method called "luminescence dating", which uses tiny minerals in the sand to measure how long materials have been buried. The new dating method has far-reaching effects, allowing scientists to date much further back in time.
The log structure was made at least 476,000 years ago, while the wooden tools are slightly younger, under 400,000 years old. That places the materials in a time before our species, Homo sapiens, developed. They would have been made by another kind of early human cousin- possibly Homo heidelbergensis. If these ancient humans were putting effort into the furniture of the site, it suggests they may have stayed for a while or made regular visits, according to Dirk Leder, who was not involved with the research. The log structure is an important window into what these humans were capable of.

Did you know that the sun has weather The sun's weather, called space weather, can affect the entire solar system. The sun is continuously blowing a stream of tiny particles in all directions, called the solar wind, which is mostly made up of hydrogen. But why hasn't it crashed into us Actually, the Earth has a magnetic field, which causes the planet to act like a giant magnet in space and protects the Earth from the solar wind. The Earth's magnetic field is what causes a compass to work. The magnetic field can't be seen, but we can measure it with magnets and other scientific instruments.
The particles that make up the solar wind are made to change direction by the Earth's magnetic field, so they mostly pass around the Earth without crashing into us. But it's not an immaculate protection -because of the shape of the Earth's magnetic field, close to the North and South Poles, a little bit of the solar wind can sometimes get through and crash directly into the atmosphere.
This crash happens between very tiny particles at an incredible speed. Therefore, instead of throwing off smaller pieces or exploding, the particles give off light, causing polar lights. The colors of the light tell us what type of atmospheric particle is being crashed into by the solar wind. For example, red and green are from oxygen.
What the polar lights, also known as auroras, exactly look like depends on the state of the Earth's magnetic field and the atmosphere, but more directly depends on space weather. Sometimes the sun produces a storm, which typically will cause an impressive view of auroras only for people who live in the far north and south of the world, underneath the part of the Earth's magnetic field that can let the solar wind through. But sometimes, a really powerful storm can cause the auroras to be visible in some other places as well.
