Then one day there was a knock on John’s door. He opened it to find a carpenter (木匠) standing at the doorway.
“I’m looking for a few days’ work,” the carpenter said.
“I do have a job for you,” John said. “Look at that farm across the stream. That’s my neighbor Bob. He dug a stream between the two farms. I want you to build a fence (栅栏) — an 8-foot fence. I don’t want to see his place or his face any more, I don’t have such a neighbor!”
The carpenter said, “I think I know what to do, sir, and I’ll be able to do a job that makes you happy.”
Farmer John helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day.
About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. The farmer’s eyes opened wide. There was no fence there at all! It was a bridge! And the neighbor, Bob, was coming across it, with his hand outstretched (伸出). “Hi, John! You’re quite a good fellow to build this bridge!”

These days, you may see “Love you, laoji” everywhere online. In fact, it means “Love yourself!”. It feels like talking to an old friend — warm, casual and a little funny.
Why do people love this phrase so much It helps us stop being too strict (严厉的) with ourselves. School and daily life can make us feel worried, and we often think, “I’m not good enough.” But “Love you, laoji” tells us to trust and encourage (鼓励) ourselves. Besides, it’s fun and easy to say. Saying “I love myself” may feel strange, but “Love you, laoji” is like chatting with a friend. Also, it’s not just words. We can show love to ourselves with small nice things, like buying our favorite milk tea or making a tasty snack.
How to take care of your “laoji” It’s easy! Talk to yourself in a nice way. Don’t say “Why am I so stupid (愚蠢的) ” Just say “I tried my best and I’ll do better next time.” Write three good things about yourself before bed. For example, I helped a classmate today. Try making a list of things that make you happy, like listening to songs. What’s more, learn to say no to tiring things that hold you back, such as spending too much time on the phone. Remember: my feelings matter. Importantly, each week, ask yourself: What made me happy or tired Then do more happy things!
“Love you, laoji” teaches us to be our own best friend. Celebrate your small successes, and don’t forget to rest when you feel tired. Love you, laoji! Start right now! And you will feel happier and more relaxed in the days ahead.
42.How many reasons does the writer tell us about why people love using “Love you, laoji”
A.One. B.Two. C.Three. D.Four.
43.What does the underlined “hold back” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A.阻碍 B.帮助 C.鼓励 D.控制
44.The writer tells us the ways to take care of your “laoji” mainly by ________.
A.giving examples B.asking questions
C.listing numbers D.comparing (比较) facts
45.What may you say if you love laoji
A.I’m not good enough.
B.Why am I always so stupid
C.I should be stricter with myself than before.
D.I tried my best and I’ll do better next time.

The next day Sir Henry Baskerville, Dr Mortimer and I (Dr Watson) take the train to Devon. Sherlock Holmes drives with me to Paddington Station and asks me to write to him with all the facts.
The last thing he says is “Keep your gun near you night and day, and make sure Sir Henry does not go out alone, especially in the dark.”
The journey on the train is quick and pleasant. As we reach Devon, we see the moor. It is a large grey hill, like something from a dream. The train arrives at a small station. A wagon and two horses are waiting for us. Suddenly we see a soldier with a gun watching the road.
“What is happening, driver ” asks Dr Mortimer.
Our driver turns around. “They are looking for a prisoner from the local prison, sir. Selden, the famous murderer.”
I shiver and Sir Henry looks worried.
At last we see a big dark building with two tall towers. It is Baskerville Hall.
“Welcome. Sir Henry! Welcome to Baskerville Hall!” A tall man, Barrymore the butler, opens the door of the wagon.
Barrymore takes the bags to our rooms. My room is next door to Sir Henry’s. Before I go to bed I look out of my window at the trees, rocks, and the sad-looking moor.
