Rainforests are important natural resources on Earth. They cover about 6% of the Earth’s surface but are home to half of the world’s plant and animal species. Rainforests help keep the air clean by taking in carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. They also help control the world’s climate.
However, rainforests are in danger. Every year, large areas of rainforest are cut down for wood, farms and buildings. This destroys the homes of many animals and plants. It also causes more carbon dioxide to stay in the air, which makes the Earth warmer.
We can help protect rainforests. We can use less paper and recycle paper products. We can also buy products that are made without destroying rainforests. It’s important to learn about rainforests and tell others why they need to be protected.

Last weekend, I joined a volunteer activity to clean up the local beach. When I arrived, I was shocked to see so much rubbish on the sand—plastic bottles, food wrappers and old toys. My friends and I started picking up the rubbish and putting it into big bags.
After two hours, we had filled five bags with rubbish. A local fisherman told us that this rubbish was harmful to sea animals. Sometimes turtles eat plastic bags because they think they are jellyfish. This can make them very sick or even kill them.
I learned a lot from this activity. Now I always remember to put my rubbish in the bin. I also tell my family and friends not to throw rubbish into the sea. Protecting the ocean is protecting ourselves.

Giant pandas are one of the most famous animals in the world. They live mainly in the forests of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu in China.
Pandas are endangered because their habitats are getting smaller. People cut down trees for farms and buildings, so pandas have less space to live. Also, pandas only eat bamboo, and sometimes there isn’t enough bamboo for them.
To protect pandas, China has built many nature reserves. These reserves provide safe places for pandas to live and eat. Scientists also work hard to help pandas reproduce. Now, the number of pandas is slowly increasing.
We can also help protect pandas by learning about them and telling others about their situation. Protecting pandas means protecting the whole ecosystem they live in.

My Experience in Protecting Nature
Last summer, I joined a tree-planting activity with my classmates. We went to a hill near our city and planted 50 young trees. It was tiring but I felt happy.
During the activity, I learned that trees can keep soil from being washed away and provide homes for birds. Now, I often water the trees we planted with my friends. This experience taught me that everyone can do small things to protect nature, and these small things can make a big difference.
