(1)blind adj. 瞎的；失明的
即可指生理意义上的“瞎的；失明的”，也可指抽象意义“盲 目的，缺乏判断力的”。其主语是人，而不是eyes。
be blind in the left/ right eye 左眼/ 右眼失明
be blind to sth. 对某事视而不见
turn a blind eye to sth. 对某事佯装不见

1 make progress 取得进步
(1)make progress 取得进步
其中progress 意为“进步；进展”，是不可数名词。 该短语中progress 前常用much，great，rapid 等形容词修饰。

(3)make no progress 毫无进步
例：Don't worry if you don't see results immediately; you're making progress little by little. 如果你没有立刻看到结果别担心，你正在渐渐地取得进步。

2 do one's best 尽力
do one's best 尽力，相当于try one's best。do/try one's best to do sth. 尽某人最大努力做某事。
例：They'll do their best in the school basketball final. 他们会在学校篮球决赛中全力以赴。
I'll do/try my best to finish the community volunteer work. 我会尽全力完成社区志愿工作。
3 a number of 许多
a number of 许多 ，相当于many，其后接可数名词的复数形式。在句中作主语时， 谓语动词用复数形式。该短语中，number 前还可用large，small，great 等形容词修饰。
辨析：a number of 与the number of
a number of 意为“许多；大量”，后接可数名词复数。作主语时谓语动词用复数形式。
the number of 意为“……的数量”，后接可数名词复数。作主语时谓语动词用单数形式。
例：A number of new apps help people learn foreign languages easily. 许多新应用程序帮助人们更轻松地学习外语。
A great number of wild birds fly to the lake every winter. 每年冬天，大量的野生鸟飞到这个湖边。
The number of our school's students is 3,000. 我校有3000 学生。
4 lose the ability to do sth.失去做某事的能力
例：After she lost her ability to see and hear, she became difficult and wild.
5 not only....but also....不但……而且……
not only....but also...连接两个部分做主语时候，要遵循就近原则。
例：Bethune was not only an excellent doctor, but also an inventor.
6 graduated from 从……毕业
例：Norman Bethune graduated from the University of Toronto.
7 make a decision to do sth. 决定做某事
例：In 1938, he made a decision to go to northern China because he knew many people were dying in the war.
