Evangeline Iarussi is a softball player from Tampa, Florida. She played with a softball league, but her community faced several problems. One of them was a lack of available fields for practices and games.
Her local league had some baseball fields, but only one softball field was available. That meant many of her practices were canceled. When the baseball teams needed room, they'd often take over the softball field, making it even harder to practice and play. Iarussi's team would end up on a T-ball field. "A lot of girls don't get practice, and they are dropping out," she said. "When they couldn't practice because they couldn't get on the fields, they didn't improve and finally quit because it was not fun for them anymore."
Instead of letting others deal with the problem, Iarussi decided to send a handwritten note to the city's leader, who was a basketball star at the University of Tampa. Her goal was to get support for the cause, but it did much more. Her note inspired the city's government to provide the funding from an entertainment company to build more fields that are accessible to everyone.
"I said it's not the 1800s anymore," Iarussi commented. "Girls would like to play sports too." It even led to an appearance on a well-known show to discuss her efforts. "I hope that all girls get to play softball, and that it's just fair for all in sports."

In this condition, the arteries (动脉) walls become thickened, causing less blood to flow through them. In 2007, 28-year-old Ryan Shay died while competing in the U.S. Olympic marathon trials. His death was caused by an irregular (不规则的) heartbeat.
It's obvious that running affects the heart, but did you know running can increase the size of the heart Hearts can become bigger when an athlete is doing physical training. The body supplies the increased amount of blood needed by increasing the size of the organ. After that the enlarged hearts can lead to irregular heartbeat, which can lead to heart failure.
Some marathoners think their fitness level absolves them from health problems. This simply isn't the case. Medical examinations can find the risk factors that kill and injure runners. There are ways to reduce your risk factors. Don't think you can eat or drink whatever you want because running will burn off the calories — diets rich in fat can lead to heart problems.
In addition to these life-threatening aspects of the sport, there are other sports injuries to be aware of. Most of these are overuse or over-training injuries that can be prevented by resting properly. While you should approach the sport with caution, you should also have fun running.

Gustavo Dudamel comes back for another show. It's the first night for the Los Angeles Philharmonic in California. When people see the conductor, the noise inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall gets louder. Dudamel walks to the stage and raises his head and arms. The group starts playing the Star Wars theme. At the end, people all jump up — it's the kind of response you'd see at a concert by Taylor Swift, a very popular pop singer.
Dudamel says later that music is not just for fun. It brings us together even if we come in feeling very different. Under Dudamel's leadership, the Los Angeles Philharmonic has spread the uniting power of music across differences in money, class, color and age. And its Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) has worked with more than 1,500 kids, giving them instruments and lessons so they can perform.
Dudamel grew up in a working-class family in Venezuela. His mom was a singing teacher. His dad played in a band. But what was more important for Dudamel's musical growth was El Sistema, Venezuela's national classical music education and performance program for poor kids. Dudamel joined when he was 5. It was El Sistema that gave him a violin three years later.
The YOLA program started in 2007, after Dudamel showed El Sistema's work in Venezuela to members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic organization. The roots (根) Dudamel put down in Los Angeles have spread far beyond Disney Hall. In October 2021, the Beckmen YOLA Center opened its doors in Inglewood, California. The former bank building had been turned into a place for lessons, recording and performance.
Dudamel remembers someone once said: The young musicians shouldn't be satisfied with a program that is just "good enough". They should be given the best instruments, the best teachers, and the most inspiring places to grow and do well.

读后续写
As soon as she got home, Lily's mom gave her a notebook. It was her math notebook, which she had left on the dining table the night before. A wave of guilt washed over Lily.
